Who better, Mike Trout or Ken griffey Jr?
Mark P
8:09
Still early in Trout's career, but as per Fangraphs, he is already only slightly behind Griffey in career WAR -- 77.7 for the Kid, 73.4 for Trout
Clever name here
8:11
154 games! If it was good enough for Babe Ruth it should be good enough for us. But players wouldn’t want to take a 5% pay cut, right?
Mark P
8:11
And the owners wouldn't want eight fewer games of TV revenue/four fewer games of stadium revenue
Indiansjoe
8:12
i don’t see why Cleveland would be interested in that package at all, they don’t need a 4th dh, they chose to part with Frazier for Miller and there is nothing guarantees that Garcia is more than a reliever.....Cleveland could top that offer easily.
Mark P
8:13
Re: that Yankees/Lindor trade package that was mentioned in an earlier answer

I didn't say that Cleveland would necessarily take that NYY offer, just that they would be interested in it.  They'd certainly shop Lindor around to see if another club could/would top it
The Undrafted
8:14
Sign for $20 K or take your chance next year?
Mark P
8:15
"The Undrafted" sounds so ominous, like a horror movie or something.

Anyway, it depends on the individual player of course, but I could see a lot of kids opting to wait another year in the hopes that 2021 will be somewhat of a more normal draft/scouting environment.  Those who have already graduated from college are in a tougher spot, however, and could take the $20K and start their careers now

When will the results of the  undrafted  be made.
Mark P
8:16
Baseball America is keeping a running tally of undrafted free agents who sign: https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2020-mlb-undrafted-free-agent-...
Argh
8:17
Abolish the draft.  I'm over here banging my drum and no one listens.  I know in my heart of hearts it will make baseball better but no one cares.
Mark P
8:18
From a pure open-market standpoint, you have a point.  But I don't think we'll ever see the draft go away as a vehicle for bringing new talent into organizations.

Do you think some of the fan resentment towards players has anything to do with them incorrectly thinking those overpriced hot dogs ,Coke’s and beers are paying the players salaries ?
Mark P
8:20
At least half of all anti-player posts in any given chat include some reference to the gameday costs involved with taking one's family to a ballgame.

Best defensive play that you've seen in person?
Mark P
8:21
A sliding stop-and-throw play from John McDonald in a random Toronto/Cleveland game about 14-15 years agoo.
Thanks for Link
8:22
Will scour for the next Piazza!
Undrafted
8:22
Any player you think will sign for $20 K and be the next Piazza?
Mark P
8:22
One of my favorite random baseball coincidences is that Griffey (the first #1 pick to reach the Hall) and Piazza (62nd round) both went into Cooperstown in the same year.

Feedback for the giants on drafting bailey?
Mark P
8:24
Definitely a "take the best player available" example, since you'd think the Giants are set at catcher with Bart.  That said, it can't hurt to have another option, especially if one of those two ends up switching positions down the road.
8:25
Best-case scenario, they're both great players and then the Giants have a prime trade asset on their hands
MLB
8:27
Hate to ask, but should MLB do more to engage the Griffey’s and Frank Thomas’ of the world?  They would make great hitting coaches, no?
Mark P
8:27
Some ex-players aren't interested in the season-long grind of being a coach.
Asterisk
8:30
Don’t bring me into this, a World Series winner should omit me, right?
Mark P
8:31
Since every team is playing under the same rules and the postseason will still (as we know) be the same as usual, theoretically no.
What If?
8:31
What if one club decided to open its books whether the rest do or not?
Mark P
8:33
I'd suspect the league would try to keep that from happening.  Besides, if only one team opened their books to show that they were facing big losses, the players would naturally want to see the other 29 clubs as well.
28 clubs, forgot that the Braves' finances are already publicly shared
Cat Cora
8:33
Will the schedule be rearranged, or just pick up the games already scheduled on whatever date they start?
Mark P
8:33
The schedule will have to be completely overhauled and redone
Rob
8:35
Your thoughts on Bill DeWitt's recent comments ?
Mark P
8:37
Background: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/06/cards-chairman-dewitt-baseball-...

They were head-scratching, to say the least.
RayK
8:38
Missed the Braves finances, are they losing money, too?
Mookie
8:39
Do I play a single game for the Dodgers?
Mark P
8:40
I've yet to see anything to suggest that Betts wouldn't suit up if games are played this season, so he will officially be a Dodger
Best Young Team
8:41
I will take the Braves.  Who you got?
Mark P
8:42
You could argue San Diego in terms of pure minor league depth, though both the Braves and Rays have gotten results from their younger guys at the MLB level already
Mets
8:44
Who should be the person to buy our franchise?
