5 years from now, How many games will be on the mlb schedule? 162?120?100?
Mark P
8:57
It won't be 100 or 120, since losing that many games is a big revenue hit.  Any sort of a reduction in games will be met with resistance for that reason, but that doesn't mean that cutting back to say, 152-154 games wouldn't be considered

How bad of shape is baseball in, many articles I read say it’s a dying sport, especially what has happened?
Mark P

I'm not the first to note this, but "baseball is dying" articles have been being written for over a century

Best baseball book written in the past three years?
Mark P
9:01
I really liked Jane Leavy's book about Babe Ruth and (by extension) the creation of celebrity culture.

Also, it isn't exactly a book, but Joe Posnanski's "Baseball 100" series on The Athletic was a great read.

So what does it mean that someone (DJM) tests positive but is asymptomatic? How long until he can resume baseball activities?
Mark P
9:02
It means that you have the virus but aren't showing any symptoms.  That's what's makes COVID-19 so difficult --- you can have the disease but have no idea, since you feel perfectly healthy.
Pick your favorite series
9:03
Godfather,  Die Hard,  Avengers,  Star Wars, Indiana Jones,  Star Trek.

Three of the four Avengers movies have been great, so that's a batting average that can't be topped by any of the other series.

That said, Last Crusade is maybe my single favourite movie of all time.  "No ticket."

When will there be more trades?
Mark P
9:05
I was surprised we saw a trade (the Mateo deal) quite so early.  We'll definitely see more deals come over the next few weeks

Do you see the A’s new ballpark getting done? I read an article today about the Howard terminal lot having lots of negative environmental implications
Mark P
9:06
News broke a couple of weeks ago about the A's potentially buying the full Coliseum property from the county, so they can have a backup option if the Howard Terminal plan falls through.   They'd keep playing at the Coliseum and build a new ballpark elsewhere on the property (I guess where the current parking lot is?)
Not to say that Howard Terminal won't eventually end up being the new ballpark location, but the A's at least have a Plan B in place.

Mark, thanks for the explanation. I asked the question incorrectly. What I meant to ask is that if you have no symptoms, what is the protocol for be
Mark P
9:08
Got it.  As far as I know, the protocol is a two-week quarantine, likely with team medical staff checking in daily to see if the player is developing any symptoms.  If the two weeks pass without any issue, the player is then tested twice, and he'll get a pass if both are negative
If a player does start to develop symptoms, the two-week timeline could be extended depending on how long it takes him to get over those symptoms

Time to call it a night, thanks for everyone's questions!  Back with another chat next weekend
