We've been down this road so many times ... it kinda feels good to be back!
With Markakis opting out, and the weird/uncertain season, I can't see how the Braves move a solid left-handed-hitting veteran outfielder before the season starts.

Is 35-25 record realistic for the Angels this season? I know starting pitching has a lot of question marks.
Jeffrey Todd
4:01
Anything in that realm is possible for any team ... except maybe the Orioles? Just have to be hot/lucky for a 60-game stretch.

Could you guys do a roster rules Q and A at some point? I have a lot of things i dont quite get, like functioning of options and Rule 5 status during this year.

Review this if you haven't already ... not that it answers all possible questions: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/06/explaining-the-2020-mlb-roster-...
Not sure if a rules-specific chat would make sense but we can consider it. More likely we'd like to beef up the rules post.
4:03
I think the answer to most things is "pro rata."
Anges 1961
4:03
With basically a lost season I would hope Angels put Jo Adell in RF and get experience, what do you think Jeff? Albert Pujols only 1 year left put him on bench let Thaiss or Walsh play first. David Fletcher must be in lineup everyday. Let's use these 60 games to help in future.

I think the Angels would be aggressive with promotions if they felt it struck the right balance between immediate contention and long-term development. IMO, the Angels are one of those average-to-good but probably not great teams that could most benefit from this short-season format. All the reason in the world to go for it.

Do you have a fave for new Indians name? I favor the Spiders...unique enough and offers lots of interesting logo design, marketing opportunities
Jeffrey Todd
4:06
I can definitely dig Spiders. My fav might be Buckeyes, after the old Negro League team.

I think people are underestimating the Yankees depth and quality of arms on their starting staff and the bullpen, your thoughts
Jeffrey Todd
4:07
I don't know about how people are generally estimating, but I'd agree the Yankees are pretty stacked across the board.
Draft Order
4:08
What determines next year's draft order? If a supposedly great team like the Dodgers has a fluky 22-38 season do they get a top pick?
Jeffrey Todd
4:08
Yeah flukes good and bad will be rewarded.
Boots Poffenberger

Best baseball nickname ever?

Oil Can Boyd?
If for no other reason than that they used to put it on his baseball cards.
Dodger Dan

How much does trading for Betts increase his chances of signing with us, all other things equal?
Jeffrey Todd
4:12
Obviously you can't put a number on it, but I think it's a fairly significant increase. The fact that he and the FO and staff all got to know one another in trying times ... if both sides feel good about the relationship, it could grease the wheels.

Using an extreme hypothetical, suppose the Yankees send Jasson Dominguez to Cincy for Trevor Bauer at the deadline. Then on September 1, half the league tests positive and the season is canceled. Does the trade get unwound?
Jeffrey Todd
4:14
I assume not, but it's a fair point re the risk in giving up talent for pure rental players. (Oh, but ... that hypothetical is a bit far-fetched even in a normal season, I'd say.)

What impact will no MILB season have on prospects, especially from a development perspective? And, with the MILB surely contracting (due to both the MLB efforts and now financial impact from COVID), what rough percentage of current prospects do you think will be cast aside? Do they have any options outside MILB?
Jeffrey Todd
4:15
It's enormous but hard to assess. Think about the guys that put in the extra work, or choose not to. Or are exposed to a critical coach, or aren't. Or finally settle into a rhythm and flow in the minors, or don't.
4:16
Some guys that probably would've made it won't. And vice versa.
Question man
4:17
Have you heard anything about the holders of the TV contracts not being happy with the star power opting out? Will this affect advertising, and lower the pay to the owners?
Jeffrey Todd
4:17
No doubt that could be a concern but there's not much to be done about it. And I don't think we're anywhere near a practical impact on marketing money with the guys that have opted out.

I asked this question to Connor last chat, but I am intrigued about different people's answers. What team are you fully bought into their organizational process? Mine is the D-backs.
Jeffrey Todd
4:19
Hard to argue with that, but bear in mind there's some bias because so many moves have worked out. It really is about optimizing a strategy for a given team's resources ... but ultimately it's not process alone b/c you have to make good final calls.

Great news on the videos. I enjoyed every one of them.
Jeffrey Todd

Appreciate it~
Question man
4:20
Although some teams fairing poorly might want to dump salary at the deadline, will there be teams ready to take on salary in this short season?
Jeffrey Todd
4:21
Quite possibly. There are still those that want to win badly! It'll be really interesting to see the dynamic.  Could be less sellers, but those sellers are more motivated to cut costs.

Over/under 20 players total opt out before opening day
Jeffrey Todd
4:22
Could see more vets on minor-league deals opt out if it becomes clear they won't make a roster. We're already halfway there so 20 seems likely.
Nicholas
4:25
You think Andrew Vaughn could make this MLB debut this year?
Jeffrey Todd
4:25
I think if anything it's going to be a little harder for guys to go flying up the ladder this year, b/c they won't be getting repetitive measurable stats in. Obviously watching them in camp will give a look, but only so muc.

I look over my shoulder and wonder if the Tigers should move on. Chris I seems to lean towards the Red Wings and Avila just seems lost. Time to clean house??
