Cubs going to sign any of their younger players to an extension. None being considered now, but …..?
Mark P

Baez is still my pick as the player the Cubs are most likely going to lock up on an extension.  Everyone else is up in the air or doubtful.

Who should I use as DH? Fowler? Carpenter? O’Neil ? Or someone else?
Mark P
8:29
All of the above! Like most teams, I can see St. Louis using many players as a DH to keep everyone fresh.

in your heart do you believe we will make it thru a 60 dame season,  I want to but have serious doubts
Mark P
8:32
I'm tentatively optimistic that the full 60 games (and postseason) can be played, though it's very much a fluid situation.  All it would take is one major team-wide outbreak for serious questions to be asked.

Any major trades before opening day. ..if yes. Who might it be
Mark P
8:33
Not sure about
Not sure about "major" trades, like Lindor being dealt or something.  Given the randomness of a 60-game season, I can see just about everything wanting to at least see where they are after 15-20 games just in case they have a Cinderella run in them.

Do you think that the Orioles are serious about Puig? Or did his agent leak the information to drum up interest?
Mark P
8:36
I don't see why they wouldn't be serious, though obviously it depends on what their offer actually was.

Do you see any players opting out mid season once they have accrued service time for this year? If so which players?
Mark P
8:37
Joel Sherman of the NY Post had a column about this the other day: https://nypost.com/2020/07/11/expect-many-more-mlb-players-to-opt-out-...
8:39
In short, I'm sure some guys will do this.  But as Sherman noted, in many cases it'll depend on where their teams are in the pennant race.  I doubt we'll see any mid-year opt-outs from players on first-place teams

where do players spend their quarantine time ? at home ?
Mark P
8:40
I'd imagine so, or maybe a rented apartment or hotel room if they're trying to keep away from their families

I assume If you opt out, you won’t get paid...am I correct?
Mark P
8:41
If you have a pre-existing health condition that makes you an at-risk player, you can opt out and still get your full (prorated) salary and service time.

If you're not an at-risk player, opting out will mean that you don't get your service time or prorated salary.
So Buster Posey, for instance, left $7.9MM or so on the table opting out

Can Betts produce as much power away from the Green Monster?
Mark P
8:46
Not that there isn't definitely a difference between Fenway and Dodger Stadium, but Betts actually has more career homers on the road than he does at home.
8:47
.319/.387/.542 at home over his career, .285/.361/.497 on the road.  So not insignificant splits, but Betts anywhere is going to be a really good player.

Let me add to my previous question,   are teams reluctant to spend the 2021 dollars because of COVID, lost revenue and the CBA issue looming... (but mainly the Phillies and A's)
Mark P
8:52
Every team will be weighing those factors, some more heavily than others.  This is why the 2020-21 offseason could be a real tough time for a lot of free agents.

Let's wrap things up for the evening.  Thanks for all the questions!
