Your guess who will be the starter and backup catcher in San Francisco?
Mark P
8:32
Chadwick Tromp has both an amazing name and he's been hitting well in camp, so I'd like to see him in the mix.
8:33
Giants might end up adding another catcher who is cut loose in the coming days.  I speculated that Chris Herrmann (who opted out of his Rays deal) might be on the radar.
Lori

Do u think big names will optout before Thursday? If so who?
Mark P
8:34
This sort of thing is hard to predict, since it all comes down to personal feeling.  It could be that some of the guys who were very wary might feel better now that they've had a couple of weeks at camp.

Can we start a Lou Whitaker belongs in the HOF initiative? He has 75 WAR!
Mark P
8:35
Whitaker is also long overdue for induction, in my opinion

Does Canada not allowing the Blue Jays to play at home affect the NHL hub cities at all?
Mark P
8:38
No, since the NHL teams will all be collected in "bubbles" in Edmonton and Toronto for weeks/months at a time.  Whereas MLB teams would be constantly traveling in and out of Toronto, not to mention the Jays themselves
Dinelson Lamet

Will I emerge as the best starting pitcher on the Padres staff this year?
Mark P
8:39
The Padres would love to see it, though there are some good arms on that staff
Johnny Giovatella

Is Zack Greinke a Hall of Famer?
Mark P
8:39
My first instinct is no, but after glancing at his Baseball Ref page....I'll upgrade it to maybe
Friday the 13th
8:41
Favorite horror movie of all time. Mine is Friday the 13th the oroginal
Mark P
8:41
I guess it depends on what you consider a horror movie or a suspense movie, but I'd say The Shining or Alien
Luc
8:42
Why isnt bart starting for the giants
Mark P
8:42
I wouldn't be shocked if he sees the field at some point, but the Giants understandably don't want to just put him in the big leagues if they don't think he's quite ready
Dave
8:43
I see you are a supporter of the Hall of Very Good Players
Mark P
8:44
Whitaker and McGriff were both significantly better than "very good."
King Kelly
8:44
Would you be in favour of a second tier of HoF membership, so marginal HoF players could get in but generational talents would receive extra recognition?
Mark P
8:46
Bill Simmons had his old "pantheon" idea of turning the basketball hall of fame into an actual pyramid structure, with only the 10-11 most elite guys at the very top.

But I don't know, then you'd get into another series of arguments when a guy was elected into the Hall as a "tier two" or something when everyone thought he was a "tier three"
Cubbie Blue

Will the cubs sign a big free agent In the next 2 yrs? Outside of the organization...

In theory, once they get out of luxury tax jail.

Besides Baltimore and Miami what other teams will be even “out” come the trade deadline. I just don’t see many trades this year.
Mark P
8:47
Any team would get off to a rough start of something like 6-18 and decide to look ahead to 2021
8:48
I agree, it'll be hard to predict exactly what we'll see at this year's deadline but I doubt more than just a couple of teams will be clear sellers
cano
8:49
why do the mets still have faith in me batting 3rd? aren't i past my prime?
Mark P
8:50
The Mets are taking the approach that Cano's 2019 was an aberration due to injuries (and maybe unfamiliarity with a new league).

If he struggles again, I don't doubt he would slide down the batting order
C Mart

Am I starting or closing?
Mark P
8:52
Looks like STL is giving him another look in the rotation.  No reason not to use him as a starter if his arm can hold up.

Most unconvincing actor portraying a baseball player? I saw John Goodman, The Babe
Mark P

Tim Robbins in Bull Durham immediately leaps to mind

Mark Canha would make sense for the Nats, and Rizzo and Beane have a history of making deals together. Would a Canha for Wil Crowe and James Bourque make sense for both sides? Thanks.
Mark P
8:55
I don't think that's a fit for either side.  Nats would want someone more proven for Crowe, while the A's need Canha while they're in go-for-it mode in 2020 (while they have Semien)
Tebow
8:56
Wonder if I'll make the show with the Mets this year. If not, what are my options?
Mark P
8:56
Tebow isn't going to be in the big leagues.

Do you know a good way to propose at a baseball game?
Mark P
8:59
Have eight male friends attend the game with you, and after the fifth inning, say "Baby, now that the game is official, let's make it official."  At that point, your eight friends lift their shifts to reveal M-A-R-R-Y H-I-M written across their respective bellies.

So in short, no, I don't know a good way to propose at a baseball game.
