Do Indians look smart with getting rid of Kluber contract regardless of Clause?  Top 3 starters looked good albeit against royals
Mark P
8:23
If they had to unload a big salary last winter, Kluber was the far preferable option than losing Lindor, given how Kluber contributed so little in 2019
8:24
It also doesn't hurt that the Tribe have been great at developing young arms who have delivered instant results at the MLB level

Who Hangs up? Kris Bryant for Ender Newcomb and ptbnl
Mark P
8:25
Unless that PTBNL is someone really awesome, the Cubs don't even give this a thought

The question to be answered from AL Central this weekend.. are the CWSox front three starting pitchers that bad? or are the twins hitters that good?
Mark P
8:26
The Twins lineup did run roughshod over the league last year, so I tend to think it's more the second option
Cleveland
8:27
Any talk of a new nickname?
Mark P
8:27
It occurs to me that the Cleveland Nicknames would be a clever idea

Andriese will be in rotation now?
Mark P
8:29
Andriese is one of those players who I always thought was due for a breakout, even if the results haven't always (or, really, ever) been there in his career.  Maybe it can finally come in Anaheim, since the Halos are long overdue for an actual bit of good pitching luck

if Kluber's injury is serious, should I beat other sellers to the punch by hanging a for sale sign around the necks of my vets like Minor, Lynn, Andrus, etc?
Mark P
8:30
I'm not sure losing Kluber would immediately close the door on the Rangers' season.  There's still plenty of talent on that roster and, again, it's a short season and an expanded playoffs.  (I feel like I'll repeat that for every team in baseball!)

What former mlb star should have a movie biopic?  Rickey Henderson? Griffey Jr? Cal Ripken?
Mark P
8:32
A Rickey Henderson biopic played as a comedy and based around all of the wacky Rickey anecdotes would be a blast.
PED
8:32
With all the additional covid19 testing, is the league still performing regular drug and ped testing?
Mark P
8:32
Yes

Odds that Oakland wins their division?
Mark P
8:34
I liked their chances even before Verlander went out.  If he's gone for an extended amount of time, Oakland are probably the favorites in my view
5 Way Tie
8:35
What happens when 5 teams all tie for a wild card spot?
Mark P
8:36
There won't be any tiebreaker games, so the league will go to some type of mathematical formula or extra tiebreaker (head-to-head record, record vs. common opponents, or something) to break the deadlock

How do you throw up polls so quickly? Did MLBTR create a widget or do chat moderators have to know how to code?
Mark P
8:36
We have a poll function right here in the chat
Red Sox
8:37
It's "just one weekend" but it's really 3x2.5 games, so it's more like a whole week. And uh, that's not ideal. That said, the Yankees went 1-2 vs BAL at home to start the year last year (but that was 162).
Mark P
8:37
That said, having a bad first week in a normal season also isn't cause for panic

Will we see fans this year
Mark P
8:38
I really doubt it

Ji Man Choi!!!!!!
Mark P
8:39
For those who didn't see today's game, Choi decided to hit right-handed for the first time in his MLB career.  He then homered in his second at-bat as a right-handed hitter.

Don't sleep on Choi as a productive player, and don't sleep on the Rays as World Series contenders

Your thoughts about the extended playoff?  My thinking is that it is a good idea to use 2020 as a guinea pig, to see how fans / players / teams react, and then make a longer term decision with more hard data on which to base it.
Mark P
8:40
I think you're right in that the league is using it as a trial run, and I don't mind an expanded playoff in a short, weird season.

But overall, I prefer a small playoff structure.  Ten teams at most.
Buffalo Bill
8:42
Jays have a sneaky advantage playing in Buffalo, right?!
Mark P
8:44
I mean, I could see a situation where the Jays embrace it, which might be easier since so much of their team isn't far removed from minor league ball (and many of them played in Buffalo already).  If visiting teams are thrown off by the unfamiliar environment, the Jays could have the edge.

Plus, from a karma perspective, the Blue Jays winning but not actually being a Buffalo team would be just about the most "Buffalo sports" thing possible.
4 for 4
8:45
All four extra inning games ended in the 10th.  Thoughts..
Mark P
8:45
I am not a fan of this extra inning rule.  At least put the runner on first base to start the inning, if anything.
Summer Deals
8:46
Bo Sox dealing more players who make a lot of money?
Mark P
8:48
Again, it's early to write any team off.  But sure, if Boston really cratered early and decided to look ahead to 2021, they'd certainly shop their higher-priced guys first.  Not Bogaerts obviously, but Eovaldi, Bradley, maybe even JDM, sure
Extra inning....better or worse?
8:49
Play it out and call it a tie after 12.....or go with the man on second???
