Leadership on the higher levels means convincing each team of the seriousness. Then each team convinces its manager, and the manager calls in the team leaders.

Instead, we had Don Mattingly checking in with his unofficial team captain, Miguel Rojas, to see how the lads felt. Total opposite.
Couple more and I've gotta run ...

Will I be involved in every single trade this year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
More like none of the trades. That would otherwise be a loophole that would completely swallow the rule against trading players who aren't in the 60-man pool.

Have I shown enough that anyone is willing to take on that "poison pill" in my contract to get help at third?
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
I think he's shown enough that a deal could be done despite the poison pill (2022 club option becomes player option, for those that aren't familiar). But I don't think anyone is taking on the full contract for a guy his age.
Especially in these economic circumstances.

You never hear anything about service time in any other sports. It's not like MLB has to reinvent the wheel - just pick one of the systems that does work and follow along.

Other sports have entirely different developmental systems, too.

As an avid fan I feel so out of touch with baseball this year. As a guy who does baseball news for a living, do you?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
Good question. Actually, yes, I do. I'm obviously all over it. It's my job. But I don't feel the same level of engagement on a personal level. In part that's because I just know that we aren't going to see the season develop on its typically slow arc. Have to get into the concept of the sprint, I suppose.

Is your last name really Todd?
Jeffrey Todd

Is this really that surprising?

Okay I gotta run.
Talk next week!
