If I'm MLB, I am seriously looking into a "bubble" for the postseason.  The thought of the playoffs being delayed by a COVID outbreak would be the biggest embarrassment yet to this season.  Especially given how the NBA, NHL, and MLS "bubbles" seem to be working pretty well

2:12
Do you see us going after Lindor at the deadline, considering are recent hot streak?
Mark P
2:12
That's not happening
Dude
2:13
How would the bubble work? Would it be Arizona?
Mark P
2:14
Off the top of my head, I could see MLB trying a SoCal "bubble" of Dodger Stadium and Angel Stadium.  Maybe work San Diego in there as well.
(Yes, I realize Anaheim and L.A. have a fair distance between them)

So how much hope as a Halo fan should I have this season? Even with the extra playoff spots it doesn't look good for us so far. Just seems when one part of the team is good then another part starts to fall off. Seems that nothing is going to well so far...
Mark P
2:16
It's a cliche answer, but...it's still early!  One good week gets the Angels right back into the mix
Joshua
2:17
What type of contract can you see Marcus Semien getting?
Mark P
2:17
Unless he gets on track fast, not much of one.  If he keeps struggling, I could see him re-sign with Oakland for a relatively decent one-year deal as a pillow contract.

Have you ever seen a game at Buffalo's Sahlen Field?  Is it close enough to a mlb stadium that it will not inappropriately affect the Jays' home games played there?
Mark P
2:19
I've somehow never been to Sahlen, despite being a Jays fan and living only a couple of hours away from Buffalo.  From people I know who have attended games there, it's a very nice park, but I'm not sure I can speak to potential Major League readiness

Thoughts on Rays designating C Kevan Smith. Zero production from starters at the position Zunino .071 and Perez .000. Kevan comes in yesterday with a 2 RBI single in a pressure situation.
Mark P
2:20
Smith hasn't been a great hitter over his career or anything, but given how the Rays are scuffling hard for any kind of production from the catcher spot, DFA'ing Smith seemed like an odd choice.

Chicago/Milwaukee bubble?
Mark P
2:21
Not a great choice for the postseason due to possible weather issues in Chicago

How does cleveland fix its offense?
Mark P
2:23
We can be pretty certain that Lindor and Santana will pick it up at some point.  And Mercado probably isn't going to continue being almost literally the worst hitter in baseball.
Chaim Bloom
2:24
Do we make a big move for Springer, Realmuto, or Bauer?
Mark P
2:26
(Chaim Bloom = Red Sox front office head)

Boston is in an odd position, since while 2020 might be a writeoff year for them, I'm not sure they're necessarily going to start spending big again as soon as they're under the tax line.

Realmuto is a no since Vazquez has been tremendous.  Springer is a possibility but the bigger need is pitching, where Bauer could be a fit.  If Bauer sticks to his one-year plan, I could see the Sox ink him to a one-year pact for 2021 in search of production without a big commitment

Will Braves trade for a starter?
Mark P
2:27
Some kind of short-term veteran addition might be necessary, since their current options just aren't working out and I don't think they can count on much from Hamels if he does take the field
Joshua
2:28
Does Adam Eaton make sense for Cleveland?
Mark P
2:28
Assuming he gets out of his own slump, sure.  But Eaton is valuable enough to the Nationals that I doubt they'd be in any particular rush to trade him
Jeffrey Todd
2:30
Which, of the 70 or so pending free agents they have, do you see the Dodgers most likely to re-sign?
Mark P
2:30
Mookie Betts!  Wait....
2:31
I'll go off-book and pick someone like Pedro Baez, who's a bullpen staple and might prefer to remain in one place rather than test free agency at this point in his career (and in this market)
Jeff

Could Dallas/Arlington work as a bubble?  Use the Rangers new stadium as well as the (not very) old one.
Mark P
2:32
That makes a lot of sense.  Not sure if the old park is still up to code for MLB games, but if it is, that would be a fine location.
Andrew
2:33
why do people think this season is a joke? The players certainly don't...
Mark P
2:34
I'm not sure "a joke" is necessarily the right term.  The problem is that unlike with other sports, baseball is still facing COVID problems on a near-daily basis, particularly with situations like the Cardinals and Marlins.

With the NBA or NHL, they've been able to keep the fans' focus on "only" basketball or hockey, so some sense of normalcy has been restored to the viewing experience.  With baseball, the looming threat of the virus is just hard to ignore.

If a team non-tenders a player this off season, is there any rule in place to prevent them from resigning the same player at a much lower salary?
Mark P
2:37
Nope.  You see transactions like that happen often most offseasons

2:37
if you think baseball is having trouble, wait til you see football this fall.
Mark P
2:37
Yup.  The NFL and college football are going to run into some big problems.

Do you have a cardboard picture of yourself at a ballpark?
Mark P
2:39
Sadly no.  Only the cardboard pictures of myself posted in every room of my house.
Brodie Van Wagenen
2:39
Do we try to keep Stroman? Or do you think the new ownership will try to make a bigger splash in free agency?
Mark P
2:40
Given that the Mets gave up a pretty good amount to acquire Stroman, I can see them making an effort to re-sign him so that trade wasn't entirely for naught.  Consider it a very very low-level version of the Dodgers/Betts situation.

Do you think the mets should blow it up and rebuild?
