I know this is going to sound horrible and non-competitive, but if I’m a GM at the deadline, winning or losing, I’m standing pat and taking my chance as is. This season is so distorted, why buy or sell on any sort of major scale? Small trades here and there, sure. But why acquire a high impact player at the cost of anything significant? I see all this deadline talk and think, given the sample size of this season, might as well roll with the punches

You're not wrong.  I highly doubt we'll see anything major in the way of top-50 (maybe even top-100) prospects being dealt for anything, unless a team that was planning to semi-tank anyway is willing to offer a controllable piece.

Is the process to setting the 2021 draft Order been established?
Mark P
8:35
Nope
Clint Frazier
8:35
How to I go from trade bait to kept player so fast? Do Yankees get a better package trading me right now?
Mark P
8:36
I said this in last week's chat.....why would NYY be in a rush to move Frazier?  Gardner is at the tail end of his career, Stanton can't stay healthy, and Judge has had his share of injury problems.  Seems like Frazier can find some time on the roster sooner or later

Will the A's be buyers or will they stand pat?
Mark P
8:37
A's are clear-cut contenders and were planning to make a run in 2020 anyway.  They'll definitely be buyers in some form, if perhaps not a blockbuster acquisition
Trent Hauser

How far does Hoerner, Amaya, and Marquez get the Cubs on Lindor?
Mark P
8:39
Not very far
Billy Eppler

Trade Simmons or give a QO this off-season?
Mark P
8:41
I feel like Simmons would accept a QO if one is issued, since he's already missed a fair chunk of time this season.  That might not be a bad middle ground for either party, to just take a one-year deal and see if things improve in 2021
Jared
8:41
I know the Yankees could afford both, but which of Paxton or Tanaka would you tab as more likely to return in 2021?
Mark P
8:41
Tanaka, due to his longer ties in New York.

should the Mets entertain the thought of trading Degrom in offseason with new ownership? They aren’t going anywhere and even with his team friendly deal they could get a good haul and try to be competitive again fast. Thoughts?
Mark P
8:43
I don't think the Mets are really all that far off, and dealing DeGrom would seem like a really unnecessary move. Plus, you think a new owner wants to walk into the media firestorm of trading the club's best player?

Why didn't I learn from the other Chris Davis contract?  Khrush looks lost....
Mark P
8:45
Khris Davis' extension wasn't that expensive (though it is by A's standards), though he wasn't the guy I would've given such a deal to given his one-dimensional game.  Such sluggers tend to suddenly stop producing pretty quickly, which unfortunately could be the case here
Jeffrey Todd
8:46
What's the worst, non-ironic, trade idea you've seen a reader suggest?
Mark P
8:46
The candidates are endless, though pretty much anything involving a Mike Trout trade
Trent Hauser
8:46
is AJ Puk starting when he comes back?
Mark P
8:46
Nope, he'll be used out of the bullpen
RA

Should the Red Sox begin the fire sale now or should they stay put, waiting for next season?
Mark P
8:47
No reason not to start it now.  I doubt it'll be a true fire sale, but there are certainly some players that could be moved
Jill
8:48
What upgrades do the Indians need to be playoff contenders?
Mark P
8:49
Well, if their pitchers would stop going out on the town during a pandemic, that would be ideal.

More hitting, more stability in the outfield.

What would a Bauer and  Suarez package net?
Mark P
8:52
Quite a bit, though any trade partner would have to be very wary about Suarez's ice-cold start.
Blue Jays fan
8:52
Should the jays add, subtract or doing nothing before the deadline?
Mark P
8:53
At this point they seem more like sellers than buyers, if anything.
Mr Roctober
8:53
How much of a benefit of a doubt should we give players who are cold thru 20 games, given the strange circumstances?
Mark P
8:54
Lots of benefit
If this was a normal regular season, nobody would blink if a player had a two-week slump.
Todd
8:55
J.D Davis for Zach Plesac. Who says no?
Dan
8:55
WhiteSox should make a trade for Plesac ?
Brian Cashman
8:55
Andujar and Florial for Clevinger who says no
Mark P
8:57
Another factor to consider in any Clevinger/Plesac trade scenario.......if you're another team, would you be wary of bringing either into your clubhouse?  What would your players think of bringing a guy with such a well-publicized mistake into the roster?
Guest
8:57
Kevin Pillar to the Orioles?
Mark P
8:58
This fits the model of the type of player the O's might pursue if they did want to make a modest upgrade, but Pillar himself isn't a guy I'd want.  His hot start won't be sustainable.
Clever Name
8:58
Pujols for Trout, straight up. Just trying for that silliest trade proposal title.
