The Angels are geniuses for unloading Pujols' contract!
The Angels are idiots for trading Trout!
Oscar the Grouch
8:59
Will Mercado hit again?
Mark P
9:00
I'd like to think he has to turn it around to some extent, just because I don't think he's the absolute worst hitter in baseball.  But his advanced metrics have also been pretty dire.
Mariners
9:00
Negro League player you wish you had the opportunity to see?
Mark P
9:01
All of them.
9:02
And, I wish I'd been able to see them in Major League Baseball, where they deserved to be
Rick
9:02
Why cancel games when they have a 60-man roster to choose from? Surely there are players at the alternate sites that can fill in.
Mark P
9:03
If you think an entire team is at risk of COVID infection or exposure, that means the coaches, trainers, support staff, etc. are also unavailable
9:04
In terms of pure roster numbers, sure, you can replace the current 28 players on, say, the Reds with 28 of the 32 other members of their player pool.  But not all of those pool players are MLB-ready, and they'd have nobody to coach or prep them
That guy
9:05
Santander is on fire. Is this a fluke or is there more to come?
Mark P
9:06
Some regression is coming, since he is somewhat outperforming his underlying metrics.  But Santander is a player who was getting some buzz back in (original) Spring Training as a possible under-the-radar breakout guy, so his big performance isn't a total fluke

Should the Cubs trade off in the off-season, or just go all in for one last run in 2021? No way they can re-sign/extend everyone right?
Mark P
9:07
I think I've given up trying to figure out the Cubs' offseasons, since they did next to nothing the last two winters after hinting at major moves.

Given that Theo's own contract is up soon, I'm wondering if he might want to go all-in on one last run and leave a rebuild to the next hire (assuming Epstein leaves)
Braves ACE
9:08
We lost Soroka? So now it’s up to Fried or do the Braves trade Inciarte and prospect for more pitching?
Mark P
9:08
Inciarte's trade value has to be next to nothing at this point
But in general, Atlanta could definitely use at least one more reliable arm
More Oakland
9:08
If you're Oakland at the deadline what do you add? If SP, who are the targets?
Mark P
9:09
Pitching of any kind, starters or relievers.  In a season like this, maybe a swingman type who can serve in either role, for maximum flexibility
Felix
9:10
In your opinion do the A’s get a deal done with Marcus?
Mark P
9:10
I don't believe so, no.  Unless he doesn't snap out of his slump and the A's decide to issue a qualifying offer, though even a one-year QO might be too rich for Oakland
Doug
9:11
The most split opinion question of the century: Dominos or Papa John’s pizza?
Mark P
9:11
I'm firmly in the Dominos camp
J.T Realmuto
9:13
Where do you see me going as a free agent in the off-season?
Mark P
9:14
Phillies are still my prediction.  Beyond them, I'd guess the Mets, Padres, Texas, LAA could all be fits
Local Pizza
9:15
Always wins
Mark P
9:16
In fairness, I was just asked which I preferred between Papa John's and Dominos.....not which was my favourite pizza overall
Dan
9:16
Is Teoscar Hernandez’s breakout relatively sustainable or significant regression coming?
Mark P
9:17
Statcast has been loving him so far, so Hernandez might be able to keep it going to some extent.
A defensive breakout might be even better, especially considering his key error in today's game
Wrek
9:17
What is your favorite concession food to get at a baseball game or any sports game for that matter?
Mark P
9:17
I'm a big popcorn guy
Nick
9:18
Padres are buyers or sellers?
Mark P
9:18
Probably buyers, if anything.  But another rough week might change that
Semien
9:19
Follow up on Semien, how likely do you see the A’s trade him away before the deadline?
Mark P
9:20
Given his lack of production thus far, Semien has surely lost some trade value.  The A's are left in the tough position of trying to figure if this is just a slump, a longer-term issue, and whether trading him could help their own postseason chances
So in short, I doubt he'd be traded
Chan
9:22
who do you see the Yankees targeting at the deadline?
Mark P
9:23
Bullpen help. Rather than landing a starter, I can see NYY pivoting to make their relief corps even stronger, and try to get through the playoffs with Cole, Tanaka, and a heavy dose of bullpen-augmented games
Dia de Cueto
9:24
Johnny Cueto has looked solid his last few starts other than that unraveling in the 6th against the Dodgers due to the missed fly ball by pence. Obviously the giants will have to eat a little money but who would be interested and what do you think the Giants could get?
iCueto trade return
9:24
What can the Giants expect to get for Cueto and Gausman?
