What will a player like Stroman get in free agency after sitting this year out?
Mark P
8:54
It'll be an interesting test case, since it isn't like Stroman was out with an injury (well, he had a calf injury, but that wasn't thought to be a huge deal).

Stroman will get a multi-year contract, though the price tag is a question mark.  I wouldn't be totally shocked if he ends up having a long stay in free agency if teams aren't meeting his asking price.

I wanted Clint Frazier and Clarke Schmidt for Lance Lynn at the deadline. Was that fair?
Mark P
8:55
That would've been a terrific return for Texas, though I doubt the Yankees would have considered giving up that much

Due to the offensive struggles from every outfielder but Fowler, could the Cardinals be players for Springer this offseason?
Mark P
8:56
In theory, though given the Cardinals' track record with big free agent signings....

Brandon Belt has been on a tear and now has an average nearing 350. Will the Giants keep him or finally make a trade, particularly with Bart and Posey in the fold next year?
Mark P
8:59
Belt is owed $17MM in 2021, not an insignificant sum for any trade partner.

Maybe the other question is, would the Giants sell high on Belt or just hang onto him if they have thoughts about contending next season?  The team doesn't know what it'll be getting from Bart or Posey in 2021, after all.
Lindor
9:01
I think the jays should take a run for Lindor in off season
Mark P
9:02
That speculation has been out there for a while due to the Lindor/Shapiro & Atkins connection from Cleveland.  Toronto has a deep enough system to meet the Tribe's asking price for one year of Lindor, but then again, it is only one year.  The Jays might prefer to just take their chances trying to sign Lindor in the 2021-22 offseason.

Who will be the top closers available this winter? Asking for a friend.
Mark P
9:04
That's what I'm sure all Rockies fans want to see, more big-ticket free agent relievers!

David Stearns needs to make massive overhall to everyday lineup?
Mark P
9:07
A good chunk of Milwaukee's position players can be let go (via club options or free agency), so Yelich, Hiura, Cain, and Urias are the only players I'd be confident of seeing back in 2021
9:08
Others could join this list, of course, but beyond those core four, everyone else is some degree of a question mark

9:09
What do you think the chances of the playoffs staying at 16 teams next year?  It kind of makes the regular season meaningless.
Mark P
9:09
I don't mind 16 teams involved for this weird season, but in a normal schedule, you're right --- the 162 games should mean something.
Ozuna
9:11
Do I see an extension offer in my future? Or an mvp trophy?
Mark P
9:13
I'm sure the Braves would have interest in keeping an Ozuna who hits at this level, though other factors include his asking price (which is sure to be healthy) and that Atlanta's outfield of the future is Acuna, Pache, and Waters.  If the NL adopts the DH on a permanent basis by 2021, that will increase Ozuna's chances of remaining in Atlanta
9:14
It also isn't really Anthopoulos' MO to make big, long-term free agent signings, as well.  He might be more apt to look for the next Ozuna/Donaldson type of veteran on a one-year deal
Leo
9:15
what are the chances the Yankees sign Realmuto and trade Sanchez in the offseason?
Mark P
9:15
Trading Sanchez when his value is at its lowest doesn't seem like a Yankees move.  I don't doubt they will explore catching help, but signing Realmuto would represent the Nth degree of such an exploration
Kurtis
9:16
Do you think a Rule 5 draft will actually happen this year? It's pretty hard for clubs to evaluate players they want to protect with no minor league season aside from those in the 60 man pool.
Mark P
9:16
Good question

Is it safe to think Cleveland could trade BOTH Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez by the 2021 trading deadline given that Lindor is pretty much a fore-gone conclusion, and w/ Josey's two options and the inevitable slashing of payroll coming this off-season because of COVID?
Mark P
9:17
Ramirez's contract makes him so valuable (and such a relative bargain) that I don't think the Tribe could look to trade him until at least the 2021-22 offseason, unless they got an incredible offer.
I agree that Lindor will almost surely get moved this winter, however

Will the new extra inning rule be in place in the post-season?
Mark P
9:18
Nope.  Postseason games will be played under the traditional extra-inning rules.

Angels would have to at least off Simmons a QO right? Could he sign 3 years 45mill?
Mark P
9:20
If Simmons is issued a QO, I think there's a decent chance he'd take it, in order to better position himself for a multi-year deal next winter under more normal circumstances.

Mike Trout day off today and he was scorching hot, is his son keeping up at night?
Mark P

The Angels won today, so it's just like I've always said....Mike Trout is holding the Angels back!

Heard any news on Verlander lately?
Mark P

There was word today that Verlander was going to start throwing off a mound, which is a good sign towards a potential return

With Cole are the Yanks still a team other teams do not want to face in a 3 game playoff?
Mark P
9:26
His recent issues notwithstanding, it's still Gerrit Cole.  He's still not someone i'd want on the mound if I'm coming to the plate.

Thoughts on the Indians return for Clevinger?
Mark P
9:28
It's an interesting mix of talent.  I agree with the general assessment that Cleveland went for a variety of young talent rather than look for a package based around one central blue chip prospect.
Plus, as someone who saw Josh Naylor play as an amateur in the annual T12 tournaments at Rogers Centre, I'm hopeful he has a fine big league career
