Do you think tbe Cards revisit trade talks for Arenado this winter? They could use another big bat and protection for Goldy and DeJong.
Mark P
11:49
Arenado hasn't exactly been himself this season, so I wonder if that will cool the Cardinals' interest.
Jake Odorizzi
11:49
How badly does this season impact my free agency?
Mark P
11:51
His agents will undoubtedly push 2020 as a series of flukes and instead point to Odorizzi's overall solid record from 2014-19.

In a market that will likely be flooded by non-tenders, I'm not sure I see Odorizzi getting more than one guaranteed year.  That said, he stands out as a bounce-back candidate, so a team who offers a second guaranteed year might be getting a bargain.

11:53
Why don't big money teams like the Angels or Mets poach teams like the Rays front office?
Mark P
11:54
There are only so many people to poach!  We've already seen Chaim Bloom and James Click get hired by the BoSox and Astros, and the Dodgers hired Friedman years ago.

Holy debut from Garrett Crochet! Trying to stay level headed but he looked incredible. Actively trying to not get too excited.
Mark P
11:55
It's a fascinating move from the White Sox, and obviously they were impressed enough by what they saw from Crochet at the training site to make this bold promotion.  The kid has a live fastball, that's for sure.
Sorry I'm late
11:56
Do you see the Pirates picking up Archer's option? I feel that they have no choice and must pay it
Mark P
11:57
I'm leaning in the opposite direction.  The track record for pitchers returning from thoracic outlet surgery isn't great, and $11MM is a big investment to make in a pitcher who was struggling even prior to the surgery.
Random Knowledge
11:57
Random band we probably don’t know but should check out is...
Mark P
11:58
As a Canadian, I'm obligated to mention that the Tragically Hip is one of the best rock bands of the last 30 years but basically no one outside of Canada has never heard of them.
Brendan
11:59
Howdy Mark! Do you think Dave Martinez deserves an extension or a simple option pick-up? The team has been disappointing outside the magical 2019 season.
Mark P
12:01
That's a pretty big "outside"

At the very least, Martinez should've had his option picked up months ago, and probably an extension should've come as well.  The Nats have an track record of being odd in how they deal with their managers, but Martinez did just win a World Series for them.
Matt
12:02
Then how do they Rays keep doing it? Friedman going to the Dodgers was probably one of the most unmentioned big moves of the last decade, agreed?
Mark P
12:04
I wouldn't call it "unmentioned," per se, though I do think a lot of people misunderstand why the Dodgers have had such consistent success.  L.A. has been built around a strong pipeline of homegrown talent and striking gold with smaller-tier acquisitions like Muncy, rather than just spending a ton.  Where the Dodgers do spend is in retaining the talent they want, and having the flexibility to pick up big talents at the trade deadline or (like Betts) in the offseason.

12:06
Will the M's consider locking Seager up for another long-term contract?
Mark P
12:08
Doubtful, since Seager turns 33 in November.  His current deal is up after the 2021 season, and there's a club option (for $15MM) for 2022.
Moreno
12:09
Do I land Bauer in the off-season? Do I even like signing starting pitchers?
Mark P
12:09
(Angels owner Arte Moreno)

Moreno clearly has no problem bringing in starters, the only problem is that not many of them have worked out.

A's fan here: Do you think Marcus Semien will test the market w his down year or potentially do a qo?
Mark P
12:11
Semien (who has quietly started to heat up in the last week) seems like a decent bet to accept a QO, though I kind of wonder if Oakland would offer one given their financial concerns.  Obviously they'd offer one without question if they knew he wouldn't accept, but in a world where Semien might take it....
Chaim Bloom
12:14
How am I going to use my big payroll when the luxury tax resets? Cheap Rays like pickups or will i splurge a little?
Mark P
12:15
The model for Boston is probably what the Dodgers have done....start developing better minor leaguers, then use the big money to extend those cornerstones while also making a strategic big spend on the occasional free agent or trade piece
Long suffering mets man
12:16
Any chance Steve Cohen doesn’t get confirmed as Majority owner or is it a total lock?
Mark P
12:17
By all accounts, it seems like a virtual lock at this point.
Gabe Kapler
12:17
Should I be disappointed with Joey Bart so far?
Mark P
12:17
After 83 career plate appearances?  Of course not.
TC
12:18
It seems a few players around the league are complaining that they are having a tough time without access to video during the game (I wonder how many others are missing more nefarious uses of video). Is this permanent for some players? If they've had this advantage their whole career, what are the odds they can manage without it?
Mark P
12:19
It will definitely be a big adjustment for some guys, particularly (as you said) for players who have relied on video throughout their entire careers.
Donald McRonald
12:20
Big Mac or Quarterpounder with cheese?
Mark P
12:20
Hot take: neither.  I'm not a big fan of McDonalds burgers.  If pressed, I'd go with a QP without cheese.
Bob
12:20
With all the young talent the pirates have in the minors, what moves do you foresee for them in 2021?
Mark P
12:21
Nothing major, as they're pretty clearly in rebuild mode at this point.  Figuring out what they really have in Josh Bell seems like a priority.
Love my jays
12:24
Should I be worried. I mean I don't think it's a total meltdown yet but setting some records for being that bad I'm worried
Mark P
12:25
It was mostly the perfect storm of a mediocre Jays rotation facing a red-hot Yankees lineup, since I don't think it was a secret that the Jays didn't have much pitching beyond Ryu and (sort of) Walker.

That said, obviously it's been a tough week.  The Jays are fortunate that nobody from 9-15 in the American League is heating up, otherwise their playoff spot would be in legit jeopardy
A-Rod
12:25
Should I try to buy another baseball team? If so, who’s available?
Mark P
12:27
It's possible we could see some more teams come up for sale in the next few years depending on how the financial landscape changes post-COVID.  But if I'm A-Rod, I have to be wondering at this point if MLB will allow me to buy a team given all the baggage
Wild Card Playoffs
12:28
Will the higher seed be home team for all 3 games? Or just 1 and 3?
Mark P
12:28
The higher seed hosts all three games in the first round
