Thoughts on keeping a modified version of the extra-inning rule. Maybe after 12 you get a runner on 1st instead of 2nd. Then after 16 or so you get a runner on 2nd.

I could see something like this happening, except it would be a runner on first to begin the 10th, and the runner on 2nd in every inning from the 11th onward.

I feel like everyone’s underestimating my braves for October. Fried, Hamels, Anderson, Wright, and a great bullpen should stack up well in theory
Mark P

I'm not sure how much you can count on Wright or Hamels, but the Braves are indeed legit contenders.
Wild Card Playoffs

Sorry I should have clarified, will the lower seed be the "acting" home team in game 2.
Mark P
12:31
Nope, the higher seed is the home team in all three games

Grade for dipoto as mariner g.m.? I give d

I can't go higher than a C or C-minus given the lack of playoff appearances or even general success, but this rebuild on the fly has netted the M's a lot of good young talent.

Schitt's Creek, Letterkenny, Corner Gas, Trailer Park Boys, Kim's Convenience, Working Moms.....lots of good options

Let’s suppose the new ownership of the Mets decides to open the pocketbook.  Beyond DeGrom & the pleasant surprise of Peterson, the starting pitching is awful.  The bullpen is uneven at best and there are holes on the field.  Who do they target in FA and trade?
Mark P
12:38
If the new owner wants to make a big splash, then names like Realmuto, Springer, Bauer are all in play.  But I should point out, it's not like the Mets *didn't* spend under the Wilpons, it's that they didn't spend up to their capacity as a New York team and that a lot of the money they did spend didn't work out (Cespedes, Wright's extension, Cano)

Do you think Castellanos elects to pick up his option with reds next year, especially due to the economic landscape of this season (i.e. less lucrative deals this offseason)?
Mark P
12:41
To recap, Castellanos can opt out of the remaining three years/$48MM on his contract to head into free agency again.
12:43
Since the market is relatively thin on big free agent position players, Castellanos might be tempted to opt out if he thinks he'll be a big fish in a smaller free agent pond.

But, Castellanos has also cooled off in the last few weeks and is now having only a good season rather than the elite numbers he was posting at the end of August.  Since he also has an opt-out after 2021, he might prefer to just stay in Cincy for now and evaluate where things stand after next season (particular with the new CBA also influencing matters)
Phillies GM to be named

Speaking of Realmuto, can the Phillies sign him before he goes, or will they wait for his best offer to come in ? I want him back, but can’t help thinking his and Arrieta’s money could be better used elsewhere.

I'd be stunned if Realmuto signed an extension when he is so close to free agency, unless the Phillies really went overboard with an offer.

As your user name implies, I'd also wonder if Realmuto would want to see if the Phils make a front office change before he makes any long-term commitments
That's it for me this week, thanks for all the questions!
