How do the Rays do it?
Mark P
7:27
They do an outstanding job of drafting players and then developing them at each level of the minor leagues.  It seems like everyone in the organization is on the same page, and the players embrace it.

Orioles making acceptable progress on the rebuild?
Mark P
7:29
I guess so?  The MLB team was more competitive than last year, for sure, though the lost minor league season hurts the Orioles perhaps more than any other team.

7:30
So did Miami end up winning the realmuto trade
kurt the hurt
7:30
Seems like the trade for J T Realmalto has helped the marlins more than the phils
Mark P
7:30
This only puts more pressure on the Phils to re-sign Realmuto, which I'm sure his agents are keenly aware of.
7:31
Related: Michael Hill might be the single most underrated front office exec in baseball.  He has had to put up with all sorts of ownership drama over the years and multiple fire sales, but the Marlins just keep being able to quietly generate good young talent.

Can the playoffs go back to normal please? Multiple sub .500 teams is a joke
Mark P
7:33
It seems like this is the general feeling around baseball, if that helps.  The plan for an expanded playoff wasn't supposed to go as far as 16 teams, this season was a one-off due to the shortened schedule.
Tom
7:33
Does Nick Castellanos opt out in Cincy.
Mark P
7:34
I'd doubt it.  He had a good but not great season, and he'd be entering the most unusual free agent market ever.
Elsa
7:35
Should LAA just buy the gurus in Cleveland that keep that pitching train moving?
Mark P
7:35
The Yankees already had that idea last winter when they hired their current pitching coach out of Cleveland's organization
King Kelly
7:36
Of Lynn, Darvish, Greinke, Hendricks, Marquez - what is your order of probability that they get traded this offseason (most likely to least)?
Mark P
7:37
Darvish and Hendricks are very likely staying in Chicago.  The Cubs will move position players before pitchers because they need rotation help anyway.

Of the remaining three, I guess I'd rank it as Lynn the most likely, then Greinke, then Marquez
Rob
7:38
Ryu had to be hurt, no?
Mark P
7:39
Something seemed up with that whole situation.  It's really unfortunate for the Blue Jays that they were careful with Ryu all season, yet the one time they pushed him to seven innings (in their clinching game), it apparently impacted him enough that he wasn't right for the playoffs.

If Texas opts out of Kluber and the Braves needing a T.O.R could they make a go at him or go elsewhere?
Mark P
7:42
Kluber seems to fit the Braves' model of signing veterans to one-year bounce-back deals (i.e. Ozuna, Hamels, Donaldson) so I'm sure they'd look into him.

btw, Texas is absolutely declining Kluber's option, it's just too much money for a guy who has barely pitched in two seasons now.  Doesn't mean he wouldn't end up back with the Rangers, however, as a cheaper deal could be worked out

7:43
Is Alex Gordon a hall of famer?
Mark P
7:43
Nope.  But still an excellent career
Clever name here
7:44
Does Daniel Murphy have to settle for a minor-league deal next year?  If you can’t hit in Colorado, and can’t play defense, your market is limited.
Mark P
7:44
Yep
Jared E
7:46
What does an off-season look like for St.louis? Any chance we all are shocked to hear talks of an Arenado again?
Mark P
7:47
The Cardinals face a tricky situation, as they already have a lot of money tied up in veteran players and almost all of those players underachieved in 2020
So, acquiring another expensive veteran in Arenado who is also coming off a down year might not a wise move.
Theo Epstein
7:51
Do I have a job next year? And if so is it with the Cubs?
Mark P
7:52
There haven't been any real rumblings about a front office change in Chicago, so I don't think Theo will be leaving before his deal is up.
Big League Chew
7:53
Was Tommy Edman the best choice to hit in the #2 hole for the Cardinals in your opinion?
Mark P
7:54
Yes and no, in that he didn't get results, but then again basically nobody on the Cardinals hit this season apart from Goldy, Bader, and (of all people) Brad Miller.
Dan
7:54
What are the chances of universal DH staying? Athletic survey showed people like it.
Mark P
7:55
The general feeling is that it'll either be instituted for next season, or it'll be part of the next CBA (which begins in 2022)
JoshR
7:57
Devin Williams and Sixto Sanchez (probably among others) did not make it to 50 innings pitched yet. Could they get Rookie of the Year votes this year and next year?
Mark P
7:57
MLB recently addressed the rookie threshold: https://www.mlb.com/bluejays/news/mlb-rookie-status-for-2020-amended
You can’t be serious
7:57
Why the pick of the Marlins?? The Braves have a far superior offense, far superior bullpen, fantastic 1-2 starters, and the Marlins are down Marte.  Explain?
Mark P
7:57
Can't pick against the Marlins in a playoff series until they actually lose one!
Down Goes Frazier
7:58
Is Clint Frazier starting in Left Field next year or is he traded in a package deal for a starting pitcher?
Mark P
7:58
I would imagine by this point, the Yankees have seen enough to just put Frazier in the everyday lineup rather than trade him.

In your learned opinion, do you feel as though a team with an “interim” GM, aka my Halos, are at a disadvantage in pursuing a sought after free agent, (i.e. Bauer or Lindor), depending on how long it takes for the Angels (or Phillies) to name the permanent person? Or is anything in 2020 a possibility?!?
