Seems pretty unlikely.

How splashy do you think the Padres will get this offseason?
Mark P
12:51
We've seen Preller be aggressive to get the team back into contention, so it doesn't seem like he'd hit the brakes now that the club has taken that next step.  San Diego still has a lot of minor league depth to swing trades, which I think will be their likelier route than free agent exploration

Do you foresee the Tigers having an aggressive offseason or perhaps waiting another year to become more competitive? Kind of curious if Chris Illitch is going to ever spend even a portion of what his dad Mike did on this team? Im fearing not, but want to hear your opinion.
Mark P
12:52
I think they'll wait at least one more year, just to give their young pitchers (who mostly lost a year of development, don't forget) a chance to get more accustomed to big league hitters

Rays vs. Dodgers, I'll stick with the chalk.  But I wouldn't be shocked if Houston pulled the upset, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Braves beat L.A.  I'm only about 55-45 confident in a Dodgers win in the NLCS.

Will the A’s offer Semien a qualifying offer?
Mark P
12:57
He's a really interesting case.  He had a poor 2020 season....but it was small sample size.  But, 2019 was his only really good season.  But, the A's might be cool with retaining him on a one-year deal, even if it's a pricey one....but, with the A's payroll being what it is, that's still a big expenditure.  But, would Semien even accept a QO if one was issued, or would he still want to test the market?
12:58
Whole lot of factors to consider here, and ultimately, I slightly lean in favor of the A's issuing a QO.  If they don't, they risk losing him for nothing whatsoever, which would be a real blow if he suddenly regained his 2019 form with a new team next season

Kudos to Brosseau for cementing his name in the baseball history books!
Mark P

What a cool moment.  Baseball is full of random players who are remembered forever thanks to one clutch moment, and Brosseau has now made himself a Rays legend.

I think the Mets should QO Stroman. Is it that bad if he accepts?
Mark P
1:02
I think the Mets would be perfectly happy to have Stroman back on a one-year deal.  Whether Stroman would do that, however, is unknown, as he might think he can still land a nice multi-year deal despite missing all of 2020
Angels Alec
1:03
If the Angels don’t land an ace this offseason do they make a move for Lindor and have the best lineup in baseball?
Mark P
1:04
They'd need more than Lindor for "best in baseball" status.  And pitching is a much more glaring need than another bat, though their lineup also needs some work

Houston has to be the least liked underdogs of all time huh?
Mark P
1:06
I do enjoy how they're embracing it, by this point.  They're a step away from strolling onto the field with the nWo music playing.

Do you think there is a chance Brewers try to unload Lorenzo Cain? After not playing this year and age and injuries becoming a factor last year, would other teams be willing to take on the rest of his salary or would the Crew have to eat a portion?
Mark P
1:08
Barring some type of bad contract swap, the Brewers would certainly have to eat some money.  Cain didn't have a good 2019 season, remember, so his trade value is quite low right now.

Are we fired?
Mark P

I doubt it.  The circumstances of the pandemic season alone will get them some more time.

Why no attempt from the Rockies to ever go after FA starting pitching (and likewise from the pitchers themselves to want to sign in Colorado.) I get that the park is what it is, but 82 games are on the road and even at home the opposition still has to pitch is Coors too...
Mark P
1:11
If you're a pitcher with a wide enough market, wouldn't you rather go somewhere (anywhere) that wasn't such a hitters' park?

Can the White Sox find a way to keep J. McCann long-term, or will he look to be a team’s #1 option at C with Grandal already on the roster?
Mark P
1:13
Re-signing McCann would be a pretty hefty investment in the catching position, and I'd imagine by this point McCann would prefer a clear starting job rather than being in a timeshare at best with Grandal.  (A timeshare in the sense that Grandal would still regularly be a DH.)

Do you see a Cardinals / Ozuna reunion happening?
Mark P
1:15
Wouldn't that be ironic?  I don't see it, largely because if I'm Ozuna and had a breakout year after leaving St. Louis, I'm wary about going back and risking becoming just an okay hitter again

Why is Buck Showalter apparently not in the discussion for Tigers manager.    Best one available, IMHO.
Mark P
1:16
Not sure if Showalter is interested at this stage in taking over a rebuilding team, despite his track record at such projects

1:18
When will the international signing period restrictions on the braves start hurting the braves? What news is there on the international signing period for 2020
Mark P
1:19
This has been a reason cited as to why the Braves haven't swung a big "multiple prospects for a star" trade, as Atlanta doesn't want to exhaust a farm system that has been without a big talent pipeline for some time now.

The 2020 period was extended until December, and the 2021 signing period opens in January

I often see teams signing veterans to minor league contracts. How much do such contracts normally cost?
Mark P
1:24
The player gets a guaranteed minimum salary if he reaches the majors, but in most cases with veterans, it's usually for a higher guaranteed salary, sometimes a pretty big number of a few million or something.  Plus, these contracts usually have more incentive bonuses that can be unlocked based on playing time or something

It is only Oct 10, but I am always working...who should I bring in to DH next season? (assuming the NL makes it permanent)
Mark P
1:26
I don't think a DH would be the player brought in, as the Padres would likely get a proper position player and they would then just rotate people through the DH spot to give everyone a partial off-day
