do you see the yanks going after ken giles on 2 3 yr deal?
Mark P
1:28
I fully expect Giles to get the two-year, "minimum salary in year one, decent salary in year two" contract that we've seen a few other Tommy John patients find in free agency.  The Yankees have had interest in Giles in the past, so they are as good a choice as any for a team that might offer him such a deal

DeJong for Lindor? DeJong under control for a bit and Lindor good as gone. Doable?
Mark P
1:29
Straight up?  No way, Cleveland would want a lot more than just DeJong.
1:33
Sorry for the delay, internet picked a bad time to blip out on me

Think the Indians look from within for 2nd or SS with Chang playing the other? Or within for both with our young 3rd baseman playing the other, Jones I believe is his name?
Mark P
1:34
The latest word on Jones is that he's actually going to get some work as a corner OF or first baseman, since Ramirez isn't going anywhere at 3B.

I can see Chang as a possible stopgap, with a Cesar Hernandez-type acquisition (or maybe Cesar himself) at second
Cashman
1:35
Resign DJ, Torres in package for Lindor?
Mark P
1:36
Cleveland would definitely have a lot of interest if Gleyber was part of an offer, though I'm not sure NYY goes that route.  They might just opt to put him back at second base before exploring trades.
Padres
1:37
Trevor Bauer, Mike Clevinger, Lament, Gore, Davies. Wouldn’t be a bad starting rotation
Mark P
1:38
Not at all, though it's "Lamet."
"Lament" is what the Padres were doing prior to the 2020 season

When can we expect the big Top Free Agents with Predictions post?
Mark P
1:38
It is under construction as we speak, though I'm not sure on an exact timeline for when we'll publish
Blue
1:39
Does it surprise you how much interest there is in the Indians on this board?
Mark P
1:40
Not really, since they've been a consistently relevant playoff contender for some years now.

Though admittedly, a lot of the interest in the Tribe is the "will Cleveland trade this star player to my favorite team?" variety

What do the Marlins do in the offseason? Thanks
Mark P
1:42
They're a sneaky fascinating team to watch, since they must be very excited about perhaps already turning a corner in this rebuild.  I would stop short of thinking they'll make any big splashy signings or trades, in part because of the Marte deal already somewhat filled that bill for 2021.  But I can see Miami making at least one notable signing, likely to get another big bat in that lineup

What’s your assignment on Roberts rookie season. Should the White Sox be concern about Robert slump at the end of the season.
Mark P
1:44
Certainly a thumbs up overall, but pitchers definitely seemed to figure Robert out over the last few weeks.  The next step is him learning how to re-adjust, and come back strong in his sophomore year (which will theoretically be played under somewhat more normal circumstances?)

Robbie Ray... One year deal with a high AAV or multi-year deal with a lower AAV?
Mark P
1:46
One-year deal and frankly, I don't think the price will be all that high.  He was only okay in 2019, and not good in 2020

you mentioned Happ earlier--did he make his innings minimum to trigger his option?
Mark P
1:47
He did not, and he wasn't pleased about the situation: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/08/al-notes-yankees-pillar-choo.ht...

biggest non-lindor name to likely be dealt?
Mark P
1:48
Hard to say, given all the uncertainty of this offseason.  If a particular team is having a real financial crunch, we could see a surprising and unexpected name traded

Didi and JT as good as gone in 2021?
Mark P
1:50
I think they'll re-sign one of them, just because letting both walk would be a pretty big setback for a team that such high expectations.

Is there still HOF voting this year? How about the special committees, are they voting?
Mark P
1:52
The special committees aren't voting, but the regular HOF vote is still taking place
Braves
1:55
Which pitcher would you sign this offseason if you were the Braves? Bauer?
Touki time
1:55
bauer 35 million 1 yr, Ozuna 3/65 both yo AtL good or bad idea?
Mark P
1:57
No way does Atlanta sign both.  So far it has been AA's strategy to mostly pursue free agents on one-year, semi-bounceback deals (Ozuna, Hamels, Donaldson), so a major long-term splash is less likely.

Now, Bauer would be a one-year deal but obviously not a bounce-back, and obviously at a much bigger AAV.  Atlanta some sense as a Bauer suitor, I wouldn't rule it out
JBJ2021
1:57
would Red Sox offer JBJ a QO ? If so would JBJ accept QO ?
Mark P
1:58
He's not getting a QO, and if he did, I would imagine he'd accept
JR
1:58
Is it a certainty that Bauer is only taking a 1 year deal? I thought he'd recently given comments indicating he's softening on that stance a bit
Mark P
2:00
He's pretty flexible, which makes sense since baseball's economic climate has changed dramatically in the last year: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/09/trevor-bauer-on-free-agency.htm...
Obviously if someone offered him some gigantic multi-year deal, he might consider it too good to pass up.  But Bauer is a unique case, I don't think he'll automatically follow the money

That's it for me today, thanks for all the questions! Back next weekend, chat time TBD
