No.  Ozuna will land a nice contract but it'll be well short of $100MM
Ivan Nova
6:49
No dh for NL next year - does that mean it is not going to happen soon, or just part of negotiations for next CBA?
Mark P
6:50
If I had to guess, we'll have a universal DH by 2022.  Just maybe not for next season, since the owners/league will want a concession from the players for the rule change
Joe
6:51
What do you think the chances of Trevor Bauer coming to the White Sox are?
Mark P
6:52
I'm sure they'll check in, though the White Sox strike me as a bit too much of a traditional team to go along with Bauer's unusual contract asks (not to mention starting every fourth day)

Almost time to go Mark P.  You are wonderful but I have to put dinner on the table.....
Mark P

Slow news day today, so you all get a longer chat!

Dexter Fowler in St Louis next season, or sitting home with a nice parting gift?
Mark P
6:55
The Cards have enough uncertainty in the outfield that I'm not sure they'd just release Fowler and eat the money when, if they'll have to pay him anyway, they might as well play him to see if he has anything left to contribute.  He takes away at-bats from the Carlson/Bader/O'Neill trio that the Cards would prefer to see as their core, but Fowler is also a veteran bat

Also, since Nomar Mazara had such miserable year, do you think the White Sox will go for a new right fielder?
Mark P
6:56
Definitely.  I can see the logic in acquiring Mazara to see if he just needed a change of scenery, but an upgrade is needed now.
Joc Pederson
6:57
Would I be a good fit for the Yankees?
Mark P
6:57
In the sense that they need a lefty bat, sure.  But since their outfield is already looking overloaded as it is, probably not (barring a Frazier trade or something)

Well I can live with that!  I really enjoy your long chats..  Good thing I have cookies.....

Just a few more questions, keep that dinner in mind!

Do you see us becoming the new astros in our division? Clean payroll, top farm system, ballpark balanced out for hitters and pitchers....can we finally get free agents to come to us???!!
Mark P
7:01
Minus the enormous cheating scandal, sure!  Now, obviously a lot has to go right with the Mariners' next wave of prospects, but there's certainly some promise there.

Whats your take on Manfred wanting to retroact all the pre-COVID rules next season? (Full double headers, no man on 2nd in extras, no universal DH)
Mark P
7:03
Technically, he "wants" to keep a couple of those changes, but any changes were only in place for 2020.  Going forward, it'll take negotiation with the MLBPA to install any of the 2020 rules permanently

Wouldn't a smart move to buyout Encarnacion, let Engel play right and figure out a big bat for the DH (maybe could play OF or help out at 1B)?
Mark P
7:04
The Sox might already have Andrew Vaughn in mind for that 1B/DH role, so they can target their resources towards right field.  I do agree that Encarnacion will be let go

Will the Pirates non-tender every single one of their arb-eligibles, then dump Polanco, to go with an entire roster of minimum-salary dudes? Unlikely, I know, but is there a non-zero chance of that actually happening? In isolation, who on that entire roster is definitely worth a no-doubt contract tender?
Mark P
7:06
Steve Adams projected six non-tenders for the Bucs i his recent Pirates Offseason Outlook, and it's true, the number would certainly be more.  But obviously a wholesale non-tendering isn't happening....several of those players are trade candidates that the Pirates won't just let go for absolutely nothing

Should I explore trading Aaron Judge this offseason? Still has 2 years of control and now seems like a good time to move him if an extension isn't happening.
Mark P
7:09
Yankees fans would hate this, but it might not be a bad move.  I'm on record as doubting whether the Yankees will extend Judge, given his age, injury history, and because the Yankees rarely give out extensions.  However, the Yankees would obviously want a lot for Judge, and his injuries might preclude another team from taking the leap to acquire him
Ender inciarte
7:10
Am i traded, cut, or on the bench next year
Mark P
7:11
Braves would be eating $9.025MM if they released Inciarte this winter, and they might just keep him as depth with that price tag.  But, I might lean towards an outright release, since he doesn't seem to be in the team's plans

What does an ideal offseason look like for the Mets? Hard to say because of the ownership change?
Mark P
7:12
For a lot of Mets fans, simply getting a new owner is already an "ideal" offseason.  But, adding at least one big-name star would be a signal that a Cohen-led Mets are ready to operate differently than they did under the Wilpons

7:13
The A's seem to have a slot in their rotation open, could they possibly get in the Bauer sweeps? Or maybe Cole Hamels?
Mark P
7:13
No way they'll afford Bauer.  Hamels is a candidate as a one-year, low-cost signing.
7:14
That's it for me tonight, thanks for all the questions!  Enjoy Game 3!
