Both shoo-ins for the Hall Of Very Good, but not quite HOF in my view.
Well, maybe Buehrle if Jerry Reinsdorf and a bunch of other White Sox-affiliated people end up on a veterans' committee again.

When do I get posted and what teams are my best options?
Mark P
11:25
Just in case you're reading this chat and wondering "who's Kim" --- https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/10/ha-seong-kim-shortstop-posted-k...
11:27
The KBO postseason is still ongoing, so a posting won't happen for a few weeks yet.  I could see any number of teams getting in on the bidding, both contenders or teams still in semi-rebuild mode.

What about Joc to STL?
Mark P
11:29
Tim, Connor, and Steve made that pick in the top 50 free agents list: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/11/mlb-free-agent-predictions-2021...
Makes a lot of sense for the Cardinals

Given most teams are taking an analytical approach now, and big market teams like the dodgers for example (mets) have big pockets. did the rays lose their only shot at a world series championship?
Mark P
11:31
I certainly expect the Rays to remain in contention for at least the next couple of seasons, so it's hard to say that 2020 will be their "only shot."  That said....it's awfully hard to get to a World Series, so I would be equally unsurprised if they don't win another pennant during this window of contention

Phillies were only in a 28 year drought!

Oops!  Well, there's a reason I wasn't a math major.
Albert Pujols
11:34
Do I retire after this season or will I try to play in 2022?  If so, what kind of deal do I expect?
Mark P
11:35
Pujols has said he is hoping to play in 2022, but that might be wishful thinking.  I can't believe the Angels or another team would offer him even a Major League deal
Low on Morton
11:37
great job on the free agent picks - except for Morton! 1/8M is waaaay light. Morton gets at least 12M IMO.
Mark P
11:37
Technically, those contract predictions are just based on guaranteed money.  A Morton deal could easily have some pricey incentives baked into it based on innings, Cy Young finish, etc.

Blue Jays fan interested in Ketel Marte.  Maybe also taking the last year of Eduardo Escobar too to help facilitate it.  What's a reasonable cost?
Mark P
11:40
The D'Backs would rightly ask for quite a bit for Marte, despite his down year in 2020.  Toronto has the prospects to swing such a deal, but if the Jays have money to spend, I can see them focusing more on free agents or taking on bigger contracts than giving away minor league assets

Is there any truth to Stanton being traded to the Cubs.
Mark P
11:42
I strongly doubt any team has interest in trading for Stanton.  Just too expensive and too much of an injury risk, especially for an NL team that wouldn't make that kind of a plunge until they know for sure that a DH is coming within a year or two
Gump
11:43
How can MLB wait on determining the universal DH rule?  If I am a NL GM it would have a significant impact on roster consteuction yes?
Mark P
11:44
Preller and Anthopoulos have already publicly discussed this, and it's quite possible Mitch Moreland would've had his option picked up if the Padres knew the DH was happening.
11:45
There were reports the other day that the league was trying to negotiate the usage of a universal DH (which the players want) with the MLBPA, though who knows when that might be decided

Hi Mark, what do you think the chances look like for Toronto to pick up LIndor. He knows both Shapiro and Atkins from their time in Cleveland, and the Jays have already stated the are in position to buy. Thanks Mark
Mark P
11:46
In writing the Blue Jays offseason outlook the other day, I tried to not overplay the Cleveland/Atkins/Shapiro connection in regards to Toronto's potential moves.  But, Lindor, Bauer, Kluber....some notable links exist
Marlins Man!
11:49
What are the Marlins plans? What are your predictions for them next season?
Mark P
11:50
I see Miami not making any blockbuster trades or signings (certainly not signings, at least), but making a couple of lower-tier moves aimed at having another winning season in 2021.  The Marte trade indicates that they're planning to be competitive again next year.
Luis Rojas
11:50
Am I being kept on as manager of the Mets? If I am do any of my coaches get replaced?
Mark P
11:52
There seems to be some sentiment towards keeping Rojas on, as I don't think he bore much (or any) of the blame for the Mets' problems in 2020.  Rojas is also a long-time figure in New York's organization so Alderson and Cohen both know him and presumably like him to some extent.

That said, if the Mets' plan is to turn the page entirely, a manager change wouldn't be surprising at all.
Matt
11:54
What type of returns could Theo expect if he moves either Bryant or Baez heading into their respective walk years?
Mark P
11:55
Both players are coming off poor seasons, which doesn't help the Cubs' chances of achieving a truly premium return.  Obviously Baez and Bryant still have value based on their track records, so the Cubs would get something decent back, but "decent" might be the ceiling, especially considering the money involved
Padres
11:56
Does Lindor to the Padres make sense like it did last winter? Feel like this is another Mookie Betts situation and one where Preller always wants to be involved
Mark P
11:57
Does Lindor or Tatis move to second base in that scenario?  I doubt the Padres are a real fit.  Besides, if the Padres wanted to make a splash on a one-year player, there are plenty of similar options available in trades this year
jays fan
11:58
should the jays pick up didi instead of trade for lindor
Mark P
11:59
The Jays had interest in Didi last offseason, but the catch is that he's surely looking for a multi-year commitment now.  Since I think Bichette (or maybe Martin or Groshans) are the long-term shortstop candidates in Toronto, the Jays might not want to lock up the position with Gregorius for the next 2-3 years
Astros Fan
12:01
Do you think the Astros choice to not offer Brantley a QO is an indication that they’re not gonna spend at all? A QO to Brantley seemed like a no brainer, but its obvious they were worried about the 19 mil going on the books.
Mark P
12:03
I didn't think it was a no-brainer, considering Brantley's age and injury history.  But the Astros may indeed be looking to limit spending, which strikes me as an odd decision for a team that by all accounts should still be trying to win now

With COVID cases still on the rise around the country, is MLB set on playing 162 games next season?
Mark P
12:07
That's their plan, certainly, but obviously a ton is up in the air at this point.  I would like to think that the league and the MLBPA are working on some kind of contingency plan if February rolls around and it is still apparent that fans won't be allowed to attend games, since the owners won't go for an entire 162-game schedule without attendance
From a purely elegant numerical standpoint, if the season does get shortened, I'm hoping they play a 102-game season, just so we get an even 162 over 2020-21.
