Given the health and safety concerns, the bubble and neutral-site stadiums were definitely the right call for this season, and they'll continue to be the right call for a hypothetical 2021 postseason if COVID is still an issue.

I'm not a fan of a neutral site for the World Series under normal circumstances, however.  It makes for a great moment when a team can win a championship in front of its own fans

likelier extension candidate Seager or Bellinger?

Likelier to get a contract extension?

when is my extension ralks going to happen? I am still here for some reason, without mention of a contract.
Mark P
8:34
The Jays and Shapiro have been in talks, and Shapiro sounded quite confident that a deal would be reached.  Keep in mind, a lot of front office extensions aren't announced whatsoever, so Shapiro might already have a deal in place.

Are the Pirates better served by trading whoever they can get a decent return for (which is a very short list), or standing Pat and hoping that some guys rebound from their dreadful 2020 numbers?
Mark P
8:36
I think both will happen.  As you said, there aren't many guys in the "decent return" category for Pittsburgh, so they move them while they still can.  As for the larger group of potential trade chips who didn't play well in 2020, the Pirates might as well hang onto them so they're not selling low

Humor me please. What is the likelyhood Theo joins Tito in Cleveland.
Mark P
8:38
Pretty low.  Unless Theo wants an extra layer of challenge for his third attempt at curse-busting, I doubt he's going to a team that operates under limited payroll restraints.

Plus, if you're Tribe ownership, I don't see why you'd want to get rid of Antonetti and company given all their success.  Now, if another team (i.e. the Mets) poached Antonetti and created a vacancy, that's another story.

Would you agree that the Giants season was a worst case scenario? No deadline moves for prospects, no playoffs, worst possible draft pick for a non-playoff team.
Mark P
8:39
Not at all.  If I'm a Giants fan, I'm encouraged that the team played so well.  Veterans like Belt and Crawford bounced back, and guys like Yaz and Solano showed that they weren't flashes in the pan.

Do you see the Dodgers going for a pretty standard JT resign, and maybe Liam Hendricks and Kirby Yates? Maybe a guy like Chris Archer as a depth upside play?
Mark P
8:41
That's quite possible.  Yates makes a lot of sense as this year's version of Blake Treinen.

Do you think Phillies hire a GM this off season?  Do they just roll with Rice
Mark P
8:43
That seemed like it would be the plan, but as per the latest reports, the Phils are looking for a new POBO and GM...

How should I feel about the Angels new GM?
Mark P

Pretty good.  Minasian is a pretty well-respected executive with a cool resume.

Do you think we could see more second tier guys sign overseas this year?
Mark P
8:45
This is a distinct possibility, though don't forget, NPB and the KBO have roster limits on how many foreign players they can sign, so there are only so many spots that can be filled.

Is there anything to read into Sandy Aldrerson's comments about Brad Hand in the Cohen PC last week? Would be a good add for a team who could use a late inning lefty
Mark P
8:47
Definitely.  I'd imagine Brad Hand's agent has been fielding a lot of calls lately.

With Gary Sanchez' name being floated around the trade market, could Colorado look to swap some struggling players with New York? Say, Jon Gray for Sanchez and Andujar?
Mark P
8:49
The Rockies make sense as a trade partner, and that package would certainly be enough to get Jon Gray (who is a borderline non-tender himself).
8:50
Honestly, Gray-for-Sanchez straight up wouldn't be a totally absurd concept.

How much do Yankees have committed to Stanton for the following years?
Mark P

Only $218MM from 2021-27

Should the Cards go after Nellie Cruz or Justin Turner on a short term deal?
Mark P
8:51
The Cards can't go after Cruz until they know about the universal DH.  Turner makes some sense, if the Cards are willing to make Carpenter into a part-timer/backup
Jonny

Did Billy Beane's group end up purchasing the Red Sox?
Mark P
8:54
To be clear, Beane's group would only be purchasing a share of the Red Sox, if that deal goes through.  John Henry would still have the sizeable majority of the team.

Isn't Kevin Keirmyer a perfect fit for San Francisco? (With or without some offset cash?)
Mark P
8:55
I think the Giants liked what they saw from Dubon as a center fielder, but Kiermaier does make some sense for them.
Cloud
8:55
Any chance the Astros retain George Springer? If not, who do you see as their options for center field?
Mark P
8:56
According to a recent Peter Gammons tweet, Jackie Bradley "is a priority" for the Astros, so that seems to be the #1 replacement.

Now, it's a longshot possibility that they sign Bradley to play CF and Springer to play RF, but I doubt it
Re: Nats

What is Kevin Pillar next year? A bench bat? Half of a platoon? A starter on a bottom-third team?
Mark P
8:57
I think he'll re-sign in Colorado, so starter on a bottom-third team it is
Jonny
8:58
Would you have voted for Freeman and Abreu?
Mark P
8:58
I would've voted for Jose Ramirez in the AL, but Abreu is a very justifiable choice.

For all the hype it's gotten, Moneyball hasn't won a thing.
Mark P
9:00
It won Brad Pitt a Best Actor award from the National Society Of Film Critics.

But seriously, after almost two decades of mostly consistent winning, a bunch of A's postseason appearances, and influencing how an entire sport operates, we're still arguing over whether the "moneyball" philosophy is overrated?
