That guy
9:02
where you surprised about the Cora signing?
Mark P
9:02
Nope.  I kind of figured it might happen even when he was fired in January

Who is the musical guest for Chatterday Night Live?
Mark P

Whatever is playing on my random iTunes shuffle.  So at the moment, the Killers

What does Soto get in arbitration, assuming he's Super-2?
Mark P
9:05
We have him projected for $4.5MM in his first year of arbitration, as per the "37% method"

Explanation: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/10/projected-arbitration-salaries-...
9:06
Assuming he keeps playing he's playing, Soto will get over double that in his second arb year, then maybe around $15MM in the third year, and over $20MM in year four
Steve
9:07
chances of Gary Sanchez for Carlos Martinez
Mark P
9:07
That's an interesting one, but I think the Cardinals still see a lot value in CarMar.  His struggles in 2020 can easily be explained by his health problems.

Where is James Paxton going and for how much/
Mark P
9:08
This is strictly a personal hunch based on the Boras/Lerner connection, but Washington

Two-year deal with an opt-out after the first year, something like $9MM per year in guaranteed money but with a lot of incentives

What are the chances the Yankees actually do try to get below the $210 MM threshold?
Mark P
9:10
That is absolutely their goal, they probably just don't want the PR hit of admitting it publicly
Red Sox
9:13
Outside of hiring a semi-new manager, what else do we do this offseason?
Mark P
9:13
I think the Sox will be quite active, though it remains to be seen if they'll be in on the big names.

Your best guess for Mets POBO and GM?
Mark P
9:17
It seems like the Rays' Bobby Heck is getting some consideration as GM.  My guess is that it would be some executives who are more up-and-coming or first-time GMs or POBOs......stories about the Mets prying star executives away from other teams sounds a bit like media hype to me
Otis B. Driftwood

Forrest Whitley for Alex Kiriloff.  Who says no?
Mark P
9:19
Minnesota.  Whitley's star seems to have dimmed, whereas Kiriloff might get regular playing time as early as next season

Wash the Frank Goshin reference a riddle?
Mark P

Maybe all of these chats are riddles.  Maybe Mark is short for Question Mark.

Of the guys who are eligible, Fred McGriff, Bobby Grich, Lou Whitaker all leap to mind immediately
Blue Jays 12
9:22
Would the Blue Jays be better off waiting for Groshans and Martin to be on their roster and add to their current core (and keep their payroll for the future lower in order to retain that core). Or is the time to strike now for a big contract free agent or trade even if it means trading and or blocking Those young players?
Mark P
9:23
The fact the Jays have both Groshans AND Martin (plus a lot of other middle infielders in their top 30, led by Orelvis Martinez) gives them depth to trade from.  I would imagine Groshans is a likelier trade chip than Martin

Is Brantley a fit for the angels? Can play RF until Adell is fully ready and can split in LF with Upton
Mark P
9:25
I think Brantley is a fit on lots of teams, the Angels included.  Now, I do think it's preferable if he gets a fair amount of DH time, which isn't really possible in Anaheim with Ohtani and Pujols.  But, if they finally relegate Pujols to bench duty, Brantley can DH on the days Ohtani is pitching or preparing to pitch
Tommy W.
9:25
Ha ha ha ha what a story Mark. Who is the angels’ opening day shortstop?  Assuming Adell is untouchable, would Marsh have to be included in a deal for Lindor?
Mark P
9:26
For the moment, my pick for opening day shortstop is David Fletcher.  As for a Lindor trade, yeah, Marsh seems like a natural (and necessary) component

Stop trying to make POBO happen, Gretchen
Mark P

If I say it just 80 or 90 more times, it'll catch on!
Homer
9:27
Hmmm I wonder if the giants would go for a J.Upton for J.Cueto trade if the Angels thrown in 4 mill
Mark P
9:28
No chance the Giants say yes to that
Herm
9:28
Is it likely that we see Stroman traded?
Mark P
9:28
If a player accepts the QO, he can't be traded until June 15
Doug

MLBTR has Kluber signing a one-year deal. Is that all it will take to sign a dude who won a Cy Young not that long ago?
Mark P
9:29
He's barely pitched in two seasons, so a one-year contract seems like fair
