What player is more possible to sign with Dodgers?  Bauer or Hendriks?
Mark P
8:04
Interesting debate.  I slightly lean towards Hendriks, though if Bauer is still open to those one-year or two-year deals, I can see LA jumping at that
Of course, if Bauer is open to such contracts, I can see the Dodgers signing both him AND Hendriks
George Springer
8:05
Do I come with the baggage of playing for the villainous Astros era or is that an overrated take?
Mark P
8:05
Very likely an overrated take.

Wasn't Jeter Downs originally with the Reds and was traded as part of the Puig trade?
Mark P
8:06
You are correct
Dodgers
8:07
Do you think we go into next season with Turner at 3B and a couple small RP signings and nothing else?
Mark P
8:07
This is also a definite possibility, as opposed to my Bauer/Hendriks scenario.  The Dodgers are deep enough that they don't have any capital-g Glaring needs, plus they can always wait until midseason to make additions.
Mark
8:08
So detroit is not in the poll but kc is?   Poppycock!   Don’t you know it’s ALWAYS wait til next year?!?!
Mark P
8:09
I've always had kind of a soft spot for the Tigers since they're so close to home (and because I'm a little too young to have really been exposed to the old Jays/Tigers rivalry of the 80's).  So, if Detroit wins the division next year, I will happily eat my words.

Honestly it has been a boring off-season to me at least.  Also do you see another lock out for mlb in the future?
Mark P
8:10
I am very worried about a work stoppage with the next CBA talks looming, and the league and union unable to agree to anything with a lot of drama and arguing

Out of the three NPB players that are going to be posted this winter (Sugano, Nishikawa, Arihara), which one of them will bring a huge impact to the MLB?
Mark P
8:11
Going by reputation alone, Sugano really intrigues me.  I think he has a shot at being a front-of-the-rotation type (if maybe not a true ace)

Castillo to LA for Lux and Gosselin. Who says no?
Mark P
8:13
My instinct is that LA does that deal, but the Reds say no.  Again, Cincy's main focus seems to be cutting payroll --- they're likely only going to trade Castillo as a means to the end of getting big money off the books

LaMehieu reportedly wants 5 years, $125 M. Is that fair in your opinion? And what do you think he'll end up with?
Mark P
8:14
As good as DJLM has been the last two seasons, that number seems rather high to me.  (It's almost twice the prediction in our top 50 list, which had DJ at $68MM over four years.)

Very rarely you see top prospects traded for each other. How would you view a Kiriloff for Liberatore from the Cards and Twins view
Mark P
8:16
Twins aren't doing that.  Kirilloff is ready for the big leagues already, Liberatore is a bit further away.

Odds that the NL has the DH this season?
Mark P
8:17
I'm still leaning towards a yes, but there still be much public haranguing and behind the scenes negotiation before an announcement is made

8:18
Why are Brewers going to make any moves? Have you heard any thing
Mark P
8:19
It's been a very quiet winter for Brewers rumors, so my guess is they're lying in wait on a lot of low-level acquisitions

8:20
Depending on $$$ exchanged would this work for Cards to get Arenado (or at least close). Carpenter, O'Neil, Zach Thompson, and Kizner?
Mark P
8:21
I would think the Rox would want at least one more top prospect involved, and they'd say no to Carpenter unless there has to be some salary matching.
Carpenter also has some sort of partial (or more) no-trade protection, so he might put the kibosh on such a deal

Frequently asked question but who do you think the Mets would be better off with long term if they only choose one big name, Bauer or Springer? Or would it be smart to attack the secondary market and pick up a lot of depth while also blocking some financially struggling teams to improve this offseason?
Mark P
8:26
I would lean to Springer over Bauer.  And Joel Sherman of the NY Post recently wondered if the Mets were planning to "dominate the second tier" free agents rather than splurge on any of the biggest names....sort of a more expensive version of the 2012-13 Red Sox offseason

Can you think of a scenario that would allow the Jays get rid of Roark somehow? He's taking up valuable space in the rotation.
Mark P
8:28
If the Jays took on a bigger contract from another team in a trade, I could see Roark going the other way as partial salary offset
Robert Larice Jr
8:29
Why have the Blue Jays not pounced on the standstill market of DJ Lemahieu and given the 25 million separating the Yankees and Lemahieu?
Mark P
8:29
Probably because they also might not value LeMahieu at that higher price?
Kris
8:29
Groshans for Marsh seems like a win for both teams
Guest
8:29
Groshans for Marsh, who says No.
Mark P
8:31
Wait a second, Kris and "Guest" both had basically the same question, seconds apart?  Is this Christopher Guest?!  I loved Best In Show!

Anyway, that type of prospect-for-prospect deal would be fascinating.  I would guess Toronto would be more open to it since they're loaded in infield prospects already?  The issue for the Angels could be that if they have Rendon locked in at 3B, Fletcher at 2B for the forseeable future, and are prepping to sign one of the big shortstops next offseason, it doesn't leave a ton of space for a Groshans
8:32
Unless you get into scenarios like turning Fletcher into a super-util type who plays a lot of outfield
Jordan
8:34
As much as everyone seems to project the Yankees as some sort of obvious front-runner to get to the World Series each year, I really don't see them anywhere close at this point.  What say you?
Mark P
8:35
I mean, they're obviously "close" in the sense that they're very likely to make the playoffs and win 90-95 games.  A few breaks go their way in the last couple of postseasons and who knows
