It looks like the offseason may be stirring to life, as we've gotten some more interesting moves over the last week.  Let's talk about it!
Kyle
12:08
I hope you are having a wonderful day
Mark P
12:08
Why thanks!
Colin
12:09
any news on Tommy La Stella ?
Mark P
12:10
Not much at all, other than it not seeming likely that he'll return to Oakland.  However, with LeMahieu now off the market, La Stella's market might pick up
Jon
12:11
With the Phillies reportedly offering Realmuto 5y/$100M+, how surprised would you be to see him go elsewhere?
Mark P
12:12
I'd call them the favorites, but that doesn't mean a team like Toronto couldn't up their offer, or a team like Washington couldn't get more seriously involved.

That said, there hasn't been much in the way of concrete news about Realmuto, and there aren't a lot of catcher-needy teams who meet his asking price.  (Or are willing to meet his asking price.)

Does $11mm seem like a bit much for Kluber, at this stage?
Mark P
12:13
Considering how many teams were in on him, the Yankees might have been forced to bid that high to top the market.
Minasian
12:13
Was I smart to pass of Kluber? Would he have just been another Cahill, Harvey, Teheran, Allen, etc.?
Mark P
12:14
Perry Minasian = Angels GM

Time will tell if Kluber has a second act to his career, so who knows.  Put it this way, if the Angels had been the ones who signed Kluber, there would be a bunch of questions from LAA fans in this chat saying "we can't do better than a guy who's been hurt for two years?"
#BauerToSomewhere
12:14
I get that Bauer is a talented guy, but if you’re an owner, you’ve got to be at least a little apprehensive about his online antics. Any rumblings about teams wanting to steer clear as a result?
Mark P
12:16
While you're probably right that at least a couple of teams have privately written off Bauer, it doesn't do any real good for a team to publicly say (or let it leak) that they aren't in on a guy for such a reason
12:17
And let's be honest, teams have been willing to overlook far more serious concerns than "is very active on social media" to sign many other players in the past.
Erik Neander
12:17
Can I sell Kiermaier before spring straining? Do I consider dealing Adames?
Mark P
12:18
Neander = Rays president of baseball ops

It might take attaching someone like Adames (or a good prospect) to Kiermaier in order to accommodate a trade, but that usually isn't the Rays' MO.  But I don't see them moving Adames for at least a year, or until Franco is ready
international draft pick
12:18
Since the Yankees re-signed DJ Lemahieu after he rejected a qualifying offer, do they lose the $1M international signing money or does the penalty not apply when the player ultimately signs with the club that put the QO out there?
Mark P
12:19
The penalties don't apply if you re-sign your own QO free agent
Jeremy
12:19
Lets say the jays miss on all their top FAs, would smaller moves like Wong and Walker and an decent Rp enough to say they had a successful offseason?
Mark P
12:20
After all the speculation and the "Jays are in on everyone" reports, only getting Wong/Walker/RP/Ray would seem like a letdown, but you're not wrong in saying that such moves would still count as a notable improvement.
Matt
12:21
Are the jays gonna be second place on all free agents?
Mark P
12:21
No, they'll finish third on some free agents
*rimshot*
Owen
12:21
Could the Cubs get Bauer on a high money 1 year deal?
Mark P
12:22
If there is a team that I think we can safely count out of the Bauer race, it's the Cubs.  They don't seem eager to spend, period.
Sean
12:23
Who do you think the 5 teams are on yates?
Mark P
12:24
I'd guess the Dodgers are one of the five, and beyond that, take your pick of any of the teams known to be looking for relievers....any of the Jays, Phillies, Giants, Twins, Astros, etc.

Yates' recent injury history lowers his price tag enough that theoretically, quite a few teams could have looked into his services

12:25
Do you think Antonetti will actually reinvest money into free agency, or is he gonna sign some nobody veterans to minor-league deals and call it the height of our offseason
Mark P
12:26
I'm not sure that's Antonetti's call to make, since Cleveland ownership is obviously wanting to cut payroll.  I'd be surprised to see the Tribe make any big-ticket acquisitions but that doesn't mean lower-cost pickups wouldn't be useful.  Re-signing Cesar Hernandez or something would help the team.
Ryder
12:27
Mark can you get this DH thing settled?
Mark P
12:28
I'll bring it up with Rob Manfred during our weekly golf game.
Castillo
12:28
Is there any chance I'm actually getting moved? I'm still cheap at $4M and under control for years. Why would anyone think I'm available?
Mark P
12:30
(This would be Luis Castillo of the Reds, btw)
(well, not the actual Luis Castillo, as cool as that would be)

The Reds were reportedly open to offers on anyone, but as always, such reports have to taken in context.  "Open to offers" doesn't mean they were in any rush to move Castillo for anything less than a gigantic haul of talent, or as a means to an end of getting a big contract off their books, or both.
The Ghost of Bobby Thigpen
12:31
Just a thought. But with the Mets trying to stay under the CBT threshold, and the White Sox well below it, any chance the Sox would be willing to take Familia if it gets them Nimmo, as well? Frees up extra money and an outfield spot for the Mets, White Sox get a guy that actually takes a walk. Maybe send back Cordero and a bag of baseballs.
Mark P
12:32
This scenario might make even better sense for the Red Sox than the White Sox, really.

Or, the Mets could (GASP) just exceed the tax threshold for a year.  Heaven forfend!
Jed Hoyer
12:32
I trade KB today right?
Mark P
12:32
If you would wait until after I'm done with the chat, that would be great.
Baseball Fan
12:33
Would Blue Jays fans riot if they miss out in all of the remaining free agents?
Mark P
12:34
There's already a lot of grumbling about the Jays' lack of activity.  If the Jays did strike out on any other major targets, Toronto fans would protest by not attending any games this season.

Wait....
Terry
12:34
I still don’t see Dodgers going more than two years and POSSIBLY a third “team option”year! Love JT but he’s always a hop, skip and a jump from the disabled list! What’s your take?
