Good day Mark! So when do you think this "Cat & Mouse" Trevor Bauer is going to end?
Mark P
1:40
This is a pure guess on my part, but I wouldn't be shocked if we saw him sign tomorrow -- January 17 is his birthday.
Musgrove
1:41
How high are you on me?
Mark P
1:41
I think you're a quality MLB pitcher, Obviously The Real Joe Musgrove.

After the arbitration figures were exchanged, the Dodgers are really close to the lux tax. In light of them still needing at the least to resign Turner, they don't care about taking a one year tax hit? Agree?
Mark P
1:44
I don't think any team should be concerned about a one-year tax hit, especially not a Dodgers team that prints money and has a bunch of contracts coming off the books after 2021

Willson Contreras...traded before opening day?
Mark P
1:46
I would tend to say yes
Jo Adell
1:46
Have I been brought up in this chat yet? If not, what's taking so long?
Mark P

This is a new record for most time in a chat without a Jo Adell question!

If Bauer wants to be the used on short rest and is willing to be the test case for this practice, then why not go back to his original thought of seeking one year contracts? Why would a GM risk their job by signing him to big money for multiple years then put everything at risk by letting him pitch on short rest? If he signs for one year then he may get the most money possible and be used the way he wants. Sounds like a win, win.

It's only a worst-case scenario if Bauer got hurt, and if that injury could be directly attributed to him pitching more regularly.

Plus, it's not like Bauer is obligated to remain on an every-fourth-day pitching schedule.  If his results start dropping off or if he starts getting tired, he's not going to keep the experiment going out of pure stubbornness.

Ok insane trade prediction but tell me if it’s somewhat reasonable: Jo Adell, B Marsh, R Detmers, and David Fletcher for Shane Bieber
Mark P

Cleveland definitely does that, Angels definitely do not

Prediction for Cruz at this point? It seems insane that a team would give two guaranteed years to a 41 year old. Can another team get him or is he just playing the market to increase leverage with the Twins?
Mark P
1:51
"Insane" is a stretch, since it isn't like Cruz is showing any signs of dropping off.
I kind of feel like his natural endgame is staying with the Twins on a one-year deal with a vesting option for 2022, but we'll have to wait and see about the universal DH first

Your thoughts on that "DH-leaves'when-you-pull-your-starting-pitcher" idea that is being floated?
Mark P
1:54
I kind of like it on paper, but it's prone to backfire in a lot of ways.  Say you're the Yankees playing at home, and your starter is crushed for nine runs in the top of the first and they have to pull him, thus taking Stanton out of the game before he even gets one PA

Springer says he wants to play close to his native Connecticut. Are the Hartford Yard Goats out of the question as a dark horse?
Mark P
1:56
Willie Mays: I'm the GOAT
George Springer: Oh yeah?  Well, I'm a yard goat.
Willie Mays: Touche
Dick Groat: I feel like I should be involved in this conversation

I love DJ, but the Yanks are way to right handed. How can they remedy this considering their starting 9 is pretty set?
Mark P

All of those guys can really hit, so even a good RHP reliever is going to have run a real gauntlet in trying to get through that lineup
1 year tax hit
2:01
Are you kidding? Most owners are absolutely terrified of a 1-year tax hit.
Mark P

If you're spending $210MM on payroll, you shouldn't be worried about spending another $5MM (if that) in luxury tax fees for going over the threshold
That's it for me today, thanks for all the questions!
