Who has a better season, Phoenix Suns or the Dbacks?
Mark P
10:18
Suns look like the clear choice right now

Are you a fan of the seven inning double headers and  a runner on 2nd in extra innings?
Mark P
10:21
I'm not wild about the seven-inning games.  Baseball games are nine innings, period.

I actually grew fond of the extra-innings baserunner rule as the season went on, after expecting to hate it.  Someone in a recent chat proposed a tweak that the runner should start on 1st in the 10th, and then on 2nd in the 11th if the game still hasn't been decided.

Royals done with adding pieces? Or you think they could go out and grab a player like Odorizzi for example??
Mark P
10:22
That would be an awfully bold move by KC, but I guess we can't entirely rule it out given how Odorizzi is still available.  The Royals have already been more aggressive than I thought they would be this winter.

What kind of protocol do MLB teams have this year if there's a Covid outbreak? Are they gonna have to pause team activities for a week or two similar to what college basketball is going through right now?
Mark P
10:23
I would guess so, yes, based on what happened with the Cardinals and Marlins last summer

After signing Gardner, how much do the Yanks under their 210M cap
Mark P
10:24
Roster Resource has their tax number at roughly $203.29MM, so there's still a bit of breathing room

How many teams besides the Mariners offer long term major league deals to prospects who have yet to make their ML debuts?  Is it common?  Is it wise?
Mark P
10:27
You're seeing such contracts with increasing regularity in recent years --- the Phillies and Kingery, the White Sox and both Luis Robert and Eloy Jimenez
10:28
There is a certain logic to such deals on the team's side, and if you're a player, you might prefer to lock in a life-changing salary to gain some extra security before ever stepping onto a field.

Terry Francona -- Hall of Fame manager, yes or no?
Mark P
10:29
I would tend to say yes.  Outstanding string of winning seasons, and two championship rings

Hey Mark, thanks for doing these questions...I had another I’d hope you’d answer.  If the Giants finish as projected, is there a chance Farhan’s job would be at risk? Thanks!
Mark P
10:32
I strongly doubt Zaidi is going anywhere.  I see Fangraphs has the Giants at 77-85, which seems reasonable.  Even if they win closer to 70 games, ownership won't mind as long as the youngsters keep developing.

Nobody expected Zaidi to turn the Giants around quickly.  The fact that he's been able to reshape the roster without going full tank has been impressive, and the team is in great position to spend next winter once most of their big financial commitments are off the books

Rodgers going to get s legit shot at a starting role in Colorado this year?  If so, odds we see some kind of breakout?
Mark P
10:34
The Rockies aren't going to contend, so they might as well play Rodgers every day to see what they have.  A breakout year wouldn't be a surprise for such a touted prospect who is still just 24
btw, as a Packers fan, my heart went into my throat for a moment at the thought that Aaron Rodgers had been dealt to the Broncos.

best guess on the exact date Jasson Dominguez makes his mlb debut?
Mark P
10:35
2023 at the absolute earliest.  He has yet to even begin his pro career.

Do you see MLB allowing draft pick trading any time soon? What needs to happen to make it happen? As a lifelong baseball fan I’d love to see it be a thing
Mark P
10:37
I don't think of any reason why it wouldn't be allowed.  Frankly, I doubt most teams would trade their picks anyway, so the league wouldn't have to worry about one aggressive club going all L.A. Rams and swapping a decade's worth of first-rounders
Hmm... Poll??
10:38
Am I the only one who actually *likes* extra innings starting with the runner on 2nd?
Mark P
10:39
Do you like the automatic runner on 2nd in extra innings?

Yes (17% | 112 votes)

No (54.6% | 359 votes)

Don't mind it (16.7% | 110 votes)

I would prefer the runner started at 1st base (11.6% | 76 votes)

How do the padres end up divvying up PT?  Do all of Cronenworth, kim and profar end up with 500+ PAs?
Mark P
10:40
I think the Padres are assuming some injuries will crop up over the course of the season, plus the team will be aggressive in giving some players off-days to keep everyone fresh for what they hope will be a lot of extra October games
Kevin
10:42
Everyone was baffled by the low return for Arenado? Any idea why Colorado couldn’t get anyone more promising in return?
Mark P
10:42
Your guess is as good as mine.  It seems like the Rockies front office handled that situation about as poorly as possible

It seems if reports are true Kyle Farmer would (Most likely) be the opening day shortstop for the Reds and I support that decision - he has apparently trained for it most of the offseason and Dee Strange-Gordon would be the backup essentially and/or platoon a bit.  I thought Farmer was a fairly slick fielder at SS the few times he had to field the position even though he was a utility player.  Do you think he can succeed there?
Mark P
10:45
As an everyday player, I kind of doubt it (though Farmer has reportedly put in a lot of work over the offseason).  As part of a platoon, maybe.

Does Soto ultimately sign a Tatis-style deal with the Nats? Or does the Boras factor mean he probably gets to the open market?
Mark P
10:46
The Lerners have a good relationship with Boras, however, so I'd say the chances of Soto getting a mega-extension seem pretty decent.

Is it just me or was Eddie Rosario a steal at $8MM?
Mark P
10:48
His hard-hit ball numbers were pretty troubling last year, but then again, they've been troubling for much of his career and Rosario has still posted good statistics.  I don't mind that signing at all for Cleveland.

Any chance the Braves move a premium young pitcher for Gorman as they could use an affordable upgrade over Riley at 3B?
Mark P
10:51
It bears repeating, Riley *was* Nolan Gorman --- a highly-touted 3B prospect ---- just two years ago.  Riley has yet to get even a full season's worth of MLB at-bats, it is way too soon to be tossing him aside

Your case FOR bonds in the hall?
Mark P
10:52
He's one of the five best players ever.  His taking PEDs isn't a huge deal in my view since a) they weren't prohibited by the league at the time and b) a big chunk of the other players were also on PEDs, including many pitchers Bonds faced.
