Jason Martinez
4:32
Baseball season is here!!!!!!
Ryan
4:32
Surprises from opening day so far?
Jason Martinez
4:32
I really thought the Rockies would ease Holland into the closer's role after being out for more than a year. Guess Bud Black disagreed.
Joe
4:33
Most surprising player to make an opening day roster?
Jason Martinez
4:34
Any starting pitcher with no MLB experience. Senzatela, Kyle, Freeland, Rookie Davis, Amir Garrett. It was due to injuries, but still a surprise since a few veteran FAs (Doug Fister, Colby Lewis) were still available.
Mel
4:35
Thoughts on Toles leading off?
Jason Martinez
4:35
Makes sense as long as he's productive. Forsythe can hit anywhere. Most importantly, it keeps Puig out of the middle of the lineup. Probably best to keep the pressure off of him.

are you excited for the padres to get the 2018 first overall pick?
Jason Martinez
4:37
I am. Very important part of the rebuild. See Schwarber, Baez, Almora, etc. with Cubs. Padres got Quantril last year. Should get another impact guy this year (No. 3 pick, I think) and, hopefully, the best player available in 2018. They have a bad track record with high picks but I trust Preller and his guys to not mess it up.

Any guess where Nick Franklin will end up? Or, will he clear Waivers?
Jason Martinez
4:39
I'm surprised that the Rays DFA'd him, so maybe a lot of people, including me, are overrating him based on his small sample success last season. But I still don't expect him to get past one of the rebuilding teams.
Brad
4:39
Am I just biased as a Padres fan, or did Miguel Diaz look really good? Higher ceiling than Perdomo?
Jason Martinez
4:41
From what I've heard, he is more MLB-ready that the Padres though Perdomo would be. All 3 of their Rule 5 picks are polished for very young/inexperienced guys. If anyone can handle the jump from A-ball, it's those types of hitters who have good command of the strike zone and pitchers with good command.

4:42
Hi Jason, was wondering if John Andreoli has any chance of cracking the Big League Roster for the Cubs. He had a nice showing in the WBC. Thank you sir
Jason Martinez
4:43
If the Cubs decide to trade Szczur at some point because they want to go with an 8-man bullpen, I can see Andreoli possibly being a factor off the bench in '17.
Sarah
4:43
Franklin Barreto does he play enough and does well enough to finish in the top 3 for ROY
Jason Martinez
4:44
Not really. Best-case, I can see him coming up around mid-season if he's crushing the ball in Triple-A and if Semien or Lowrie are either hurt or traded. If not, might just get a look in September.
Willy
4:45
Will I. Happ make an appearance with the Cubs this season and at what position?
Jason Martinez
4:46
There doesn't appear to be many scenarios where he does. But with those types of guys, you never know. Once they're ready, it's hard to ignore them. Would probably take an injury to open the door, though. The fact that he can play multiple positions helps his case.

4:47
What rule 5 pick makes the most impact this year?
Jason Martinez
4:49
I can see Miguel Diaz getting a look as a starter later in the season once they trade or release one of the veteran guys. Similar to Perdomo in '16. Guys like Haley, Hauschild and Covey could also get a good number of starts. Sounds like Covey will start this week.
David
4:50
Do you think Milone takes over for Guerra in rotation now or do Brewers dip into minors for Hader already?
Jason Martinez
4:51
Too early for Hader, although I think he'll make 20+ MLB starts this season. Might as well just go with Milone it's short term. A calf strain shouldn't keep Guerra out long. Garza will be back soon, too.
Starboy
4:52
Do the Mariners have enough starting pitching to stave off the Rangers (or Astros) for a playoff berth?
Jason Martinez
4:53
I think they'll be fine. Their rotation took a hit with Smyly going down, but Dipoto did a good job adding upper minors depth this offseason. Miranda looked good last season and they have a handful of back-of-rotation guys (De Jong, Moore, Heston, Overton, Povse) who should be able to hold their own if called upon.
Wade
4:54
Which teams do you predict having the worst three records in 2017?
Jason Martinez
4:54
Easy call. Padres, Reds, Brewers.
Alex in LA
4:55
When does Urias Join the Dodger rotation?
Jason Martinez
4:55
I think he's good for about 25-28 starts and post-season. So mid-May.
That Basketballs Guy
4:57
UNC or Gonzaga...Who you taking?
Jason Martinez
4:58
I haven't watched much NCAA b-ball in years. I remember watching when Michigan had the Fab 5 and UNLV had Larry Johnson and Stacey Augmon. That was a long time ago.
Willy
4:59
Can Bedrosian do enough to be the full time closer even when Street returns?
Jason Martinez
4:59
Scioscia is the kind of manager that will give Street his job back based on track record, so Bedrosian will have to be almost perfect to hold him off. He's capable of it, though. So good last season.
Dodger Dog
5:01
Is your opinion of the Dodgers' rotation as glowing as Steve
Jason Martinez
5:01
Probably. Down the stretch, they could have Kershaw, Maeda, Hill, Urias and whoever is pitching best out of Ryu/McCarthy/Kazmir/Wood. That is a very good rotation.
ken
5:03
Have the Dodgers thought of Cody Bellinger anywhere else besides 1B?
Jason Martinez
5:03
I'm sure he'll get a look at the corner OF spots in AAA. If his bat is ready, as many believe, and the Dodgers are not getting production out of a corner OF spot or if Adrian gets hurt, he could be the next man up. Lots of buzz in the spring about how good of a hitter he can be.
Eppler
5:04
Blake Parker 17 straight ks can he be a needle in haystack for us maybe even close?
Jason Martinez
5:04
Where the heck did that come from? I guess that's why he kept getting claimed off waivers last season. Must have a good arm but hasn't been able to put it all together.
Brad
5:05
Rough day for Bethancourt doesnt end the fun experiment does it?
