No, it has to be expected. In all likelihood, he'll end up on the 60-Day DL at some point with some sort of ailment, which will give him an opportunity to work on things and then a 30-day rehab stint in the minors. He has no pitching experience in the minors and now he's a MLB pitcher. That's crazy.

I think Freeland and Garrett will both do fine. Both had heavy workloads in AAA last season so I don't think they each have a chance to make 25 starts.

I think he said that last year, too, when Street went on the DL late in the season even though Bedrosian was the obvious choice and was having a great season. I just think Scioscia likes to keep opponents guessing but there isn't anyone else in that bullpen who he should trust.

Does Conforto really just sit on the bench this season or does he eventually get sent down to AAA?

I think he would've been in AAA to start the season if not for Lagares' injury. He needs to play everyday. I don't think they'd do this, but signing Melvin Upton and sending Conforto to AAA would make some sense. They just need a backup CF until Lagares returns.

He was good in the majors 2 years ago. Took a huge step backwards last season, but I think his strong spring performance has put him back on the radar. Should play vs LHP and possibly more if Profar doesn't hit.

No, I think his elbow gave him trouble last season. Hopefully, the elbow isn't an issue, but it wouldn't be a surprise if it lingers. Today's start wasn't very encouraging.

Their rotation isn't bad enough right now. Obviously, they can trade Quintana and anyone else who pitches well. Then they would give SD, CIN, MIL a run for the No. 1 pick in '18.

When will Nick Franklin be out of DFA limbo? Got to think he would be a better utility infielder for my Minnesota Twins than Danny Santana. Franklin hits way better and fields about the same as Santana.

They have until April 11th. TB will likely look at trade opportunities first and then put him on the waivers if they don't get a decent trade offer.

There really isn't any incentive to dump him right now. Might as well let him pitch (when he's back from DL) so he can possibly build up some trade value.

Did the Yankees not considering Kyle Higashioka for the backup role be as a result of Romine out of options?

Yes, but probably not much. Backup catchers are valued more for defense/leadership/experience. Higashioka has put up some good power numbers in the upper minors, but not sure about his defense. Rookie catchers aren't ideal, regardless, in a backup role. Especially when the starter (Gary Sanchez) isn't very experienced, either. Romine has been in the org. for a long time so I imagine he knows his pitching staff well.

I didn't think they had enough bullpen depth going into the season and now it's being tested with Osuna out. I think they'll be fine, especially if Smith and Howell can bounce back, but I can see the bullpen being the weak link on a team that misses the playoffs by a handful of games.

The Padres have had such bad luck with homegrown talent, so I can't feel bad about it. Pomeranz was an All-Star. He was dominating every time out before the trade. Every pitcher comes with risk. If a pitcher's elbow hurts at some point, can't be surprised.

I thought this had zero chance of happening in the offseason because Alex Reyes needed to be included and he was too valuable to the Cards in 2017. Now that he's out for the season, I think it could make sense to put him in the deal. He probably won't be back until mid-2018. White Sox can wait on him.

Will you surprised how well Kyle Kendrick was in Spring Training for the Red Sox. Do you think he will be the next guy if anyone else gets hurt.

Yes and yes. I also wouldn't be surprised if he got lit up in his 1st start, sent back to the minors and never pitched another game for the Red Sox. Guys like Kendrick can be very good once they get in a groove. But they don't have much room for error. Need to be perfect or they get hit hard.
