I think they'd trade Jose Martinez for Smith. Martinez to an AL team is a no-brainer for me, though.

What does the Bour acquisition mean for Matt Thaiss?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:31
If Thaiss crushes Triple-A pitching and Bour is only "so-so" again, I can see them making a change by mid-season. That's assuming Bour's salary isn't more than $6MM. Anything more than that and his leash could be longer. In any case, Thaiss has to force his way onto the roster in '19.

Padres seem like a PERFECT fit for Tulo.... Comes in on the minimum to fill in for Tatis until the deadline.  If he is good, they flip him at the deadline.  Why isn't this done yet?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:33
Give him a chance to explore a few other options. If I had to guess, I'd say he goes to SD.

What are the White Sox doing in truth?  Harper and Machado can’t possibly be the sole focus.
AvatarJason Martinez
5:35
They might have more holes than any team in baseball and a lot of $$$ to spend. So they're definitely in the mix for Machado/Harper, but I expect them be very active.
5:37
Follow up to Angels/Bour/Thaiss question. Bour is getting $2.5MM. Great value if he returns to his '17 form (.900 OPS, 25 HR). If not, Thaiss has a chance to take his job at some point.

Rox see a chance to go big with AZ and SF wobbly, and be the Mystery Team for Harper?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:40
They make a lot of sense. Rockies rumors are rare for some reason, which is why they're a good "mystery team". If they can afford an Arenado extension and either Machado/Harper, they have a chance. I think A.J. Pollock makes a lot of sense, though. That would allow them to move Blackmon to RF.

Robles Acuna or Soto going forward. Pick 1
AvatarJason Martinez
5:41
Soto is a stud. I'll give Acuña a slight edge, though.

When can we finally all admit that Buxton and Moncada are busts?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:44
Star-caliber upside for players entering their ages 25 and 24 seasons. At least 2 more years. Maybe before any fan of their team should really be disappointed.

Does a reunion with Daniel Murphy make sense for the Mets?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:46
Not really. Murphy would have to play 1B or they'd have to convince Cano to play 1B. They have bigger needs to fill with Peter Alonso very likely to be their 1B early in the season. I think a return to the Nats makes a lot of sense. They need a 2B and a lefty bat.

Taylor Trammell and what get me Realmuto?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:50
I'm guessing that Trammell is a good enough centerpiece. So the difficult part would be out of the way. Tucker Barnhart would probably go in that deal. Maybe add one of the Reds' young pitchers who is almost MLB-ready but hasn't had much of a chance yet (Cody Reed or Jose Lopez). Or maybe a reclamation project like Robert Stephenson or Brandon Finnegan.

Would the braves give up Kyle Wright for Bum and Watson?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:51
Don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me too much if they traded one of their many chips for two significant "win-now" pieces.

Anymore news on the Reds?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:52
Reds are interested in signing or trading for every player.
5:53
It's not a bad way to get their fan base excited by making sure it's known that they're trying to acquire every player. They just need to make sure they get at least one impact guy before the season starts.

Cole Calhoun for Tehran of the Braves?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:53
They can do better than Calhoun and they can get more for Teheran.

Any non-Harper moves incoming for the White Sox?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:55
Newest rumor has them interested in Ottavino. Could be his best shot for a closer's job. Pretty sure every contender has interest in him as their primary setup man.

Would you deal cervelli to dodgers for stripling
AvatarJason Martinez
5:59
Yes, I probably would. I would pair a veteran FA with Elias Diaz (maybe Rene Rivera or Martin Maldonado) to take over for Cervelli. Stripling has 4 years remaining and has some success as a SP and RP. Multi-inning relievers are becoming a really big deal. Lots of value for a small-market team right now.

Who's starting in RF for Braves on opening day 2019? Please don't say Nick Markakis...
AvatarJason Martinez
6:00
Nicholas William Markakis
6:01
Just kidding. I actually don't think he's coming back.
6:02
I think Brantley or Adam Jones is more likely. Maybe CarGo. Maybe two of those 3, but only if they trade Inciarte.

Shelby Miller seems like a great rebound candidate for the Padres 2019 rotation. Give him 1 year pillow in a pitcher's park. Any word where Miller may go?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:04
Padres don't appear to have the space for a bounce-back pitcher. At least on a MLB deal. And not sure if he'll have to settle for a MiLB deal. I think a pitching-starved team like the Orioles or Mariners would be more likely.

6:06
be your second ideal choice?  Do you sign Grandal or go defensive Maldonado to sure up the pitching staff?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:07
Grandal is a great all-around defender and he can hit. Maldonado has a great throwing arm and doesn't hit much. Easy choice. Just depends on whether a team wants to spend big on Grandal.

Best guess, where do Harper & Machado end up?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:08
I've thought for a while that Harper goes to Philly and Machado goes to the White Sox. No reason to rule either of those out at this point.

Pirates and Tulo? Think he’s worth a flier?
