Jerry is never done making moves.

do the braves sign a third baseman or use Culberson until riley is ready toe the jump?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:15
Culberson won't be a regular. They'd go with Camargo if they don't sign anyone else. But I think they end up signing someone like Todd Frazier or Yunel Escobar as a one-year stop-gap.
AJ Ellis

Are the Padres gonna sign me or not? Is anyone going to sign me?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:17
Ellis was the guy I mentioned in the Padres' offseason outlook. Hedges will probably start more games than any other catcher in baseball so an older veteran to serve as a mentor would be ideal.

who is best Cub prospect that would spark trade interest?
AvatarJason Martinez

Ian Happ isn't technically a prospect anymore, but he's a young player with 6 years of club control. He's their best trade chip. Adbert Alzolay is probably their most valuable prospect trade chip.

Given the choice, should the Halos sign a top of the line starter and a few more unknowns for the pen or sign a top of the line closer and trust that their 8-ish SPs (Ohtani, Richards, Heaney, Bridwell, Skaggs, Shoemaker, Toppeano, Ramirez) will be able to hang throughout the whole season?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:21
All 8 of those starters have health concerns. A starter who they can rely on for 30 starts/180 IP needs to be the priority. It's easier to build a strong bullpen without spending a lot of $. Bud Norris was their closer for most of last season. I don't think they're too worried about their 'pen with Parker, Bedrosian, Middleton in the late innings.

Marcel Ozuna is the MVP next year. What do you think
AvatarJason Martinez
6:25
Wouldn't surprise me. I'm guessing he didn't peak at age 26 and he can be even better than he was last season. Going to a contender and getting out of one of the most pitcher-friendly ballparks should help.

How Does Mannys new contract affect Arenados next year?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:28
It will be a factor, but Arenado will be entering his age 29 season as a free agent. Machado will be entering his age 26 season. Arenado will get less years, but close to Manny's AAV.

2nd baseman next year

Rays have a lot of 2B. Maybe they'd trade Brad Miller? Wouldn't cost a lot coming off of a bad season. 30 HR in '16, though.

What’s a better way forward? Bruce for 3-4yrs or CarGo for 1 and freed up payroll for big FA in 2018?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:34
CarGo at 1 year. Not sure what his demands are, though. The assumption is that he'd settle for a 1-yr deal to rebuild his value. Maybe he's asking for a multi-yr deal in the $15-18MM/yr range.

Maikel Franco for Julio Teheran.
AvatarJason Martinez
6:36
Not enough for Teheran and the Braves seem like they're more interested in a 1-yr stop-gap with Austin Riley taking over at 3B in '19.

Do you think there is any real substance to the Cardinals potentially landing trade for Donaldson?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:39
I do. I also think it's a huge decision for the Jays. Trading their best player indicates to the fan base that they're not going to compete with the Yankees and Red Sox in '18. Their rotation is too good to not try and compete for a playoff spot. If they trade Donaldson, I think they would re-invest the $ in free agency to try and build a competitive team.

Yonder Alonso is signing with the Indians. That's my cue to end this chat. Updated Indians roster projection can be found here in about 5 minutes ... https://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-cleveland-indians
