I wouldn't judge a front office on how they do their job. I can tell you that the Rockies are becoming the team that is being questioned throughout the industry, though, after giving all that $ to Desmond and Dunn. I like the Rockies core of talent, though, and the offseason is far from over.

Can the Dodgers actually trade Kazmir and McCarthy?
Jason Martinez
5:27
They can trade them but they'd have to eat way too much $. Wouldn't be worth it. Never a good idea to trade a player after a down season/injury-plagued season.

There doesn't seem to be any talk on Jason Hammel. Any reason why? He's been a solid pitcher.
Jason Martinez
5:28
Based on what Nova signed for (3/26), which was less than expected, I'm guessing Hammel's not getting the offers he was hoping for. I'm guessing he's just holding out for a 3 yr deal and might have to settle for 2.

Bryce Harper for Bogarts, Bradley, Benintendi, Groome..........who says no?
Jason Martinez
5:31
If Harper had at least 4 years of club control and was coming off of a better season, I think something like that might be entertained. I think the Sox would still say no. But Harper only has 2 yrs left and his numbers declined drastically from 2015 to 2016.

Any chance anyone will take Ellsbury/Headley/Gardner off my hands?
Jason Martinez
5:33
Not a big market for 3B and you don't really have a replacement fro 2017. Ellsbury and Gardner are approaching their mid-30's. Don't see it.

5:34
Lots of Jays fans are hoping Bautista will sign with us again. Is there any more chatter happening?
Jason Martinez
5:34
Not really, which makes it more likely that he will return. The Jays might have the biggest need for a middle of the order bat so they should be willing to outbid, especially since price has likely dropped.

Any chance Rangers sign Trumbo?
Jason Martinez
5:35
Napoli is more likely because he's cheaper. If Napoli signs elsewhere, I can see Trumbo being an option if his price drops enough.

Predict what will happen to Jake Arrieta next year? Sign contract extension with Cubs or get traded midseason or sign with someone else?
Jason Martinez
5:37
Cubs aren't trading him because they'll be in contention. I also don't think they'll get a contract extension done before the season. I think he will test the free agent waters and end up elsewhere in '18.

Do you think the Padres end the 2017 season with an outfield of Jankowski, Margot, Renfroe, and Dickerson? Or does one of them get traded by then? Dickerson can flat out hit, but the Padres would have one of the better defensive outfields with Jankowski, Margot and Renfroe. Can the Padres find enough playing time for all 4?
Jason Martinez
5:41
My initial playing time projection has Margot with 600 plate appearances, Jankowski at 575, Renfroe at 560 and Dickerson at 375. The high likelihood that one of the top 3 gets injured or struggles means Dickerson can probably get closer to 500. I think the Padres are fine with that breakdown so no need to make a trade unless they don't believe Dickerson is good enough to ever be a decent LF or if they get blown away with an offer.

Is there a point where Cutch might make sense for the Dodgers? How significant is the cost between Cutch and Dozier? Would it make sense to spend a bit more capital to get Cutch, then deal with an Utley/kike platoon at 2b?
Jason Martinez
5:45
I think he makes sense now. The MLBTR prediction for Cespedes was the Dodgers so we obviously felt there was room for them to add an OF with Puig's issues and Andrew Toles/Ethier/Trayce Thompson penciled into the other spot. The price for Cutch would be higher. Better track record and likely to bounce back. Dozier's track record says he'll likely come back down. Cutch has the star power. I think he'd be a great fit. They'd just pay more for the star power and track record. They'd have to settle for a lesser option at 2B, though. Maybe re-sign Utley.

Any veteran position players that you would see working for the Padres? I'm betting they pick up Erik Aybar.
Jason Martinez
5:47
Aybar makes a lot of sense. Not as much sense as the Jake Peavy prediction I've been pushing for months, but there's not many options for Aybar or the Padres at SS.

What do you see Tyson Ross getting in his deal this winter? No chance the Cubs give him a 4 year deal right?
Jason Martinez
5:48
No chance any team gives him 4 years. I think the best he can do is 1 yr with an option. But he's young enough where a 1-yr deal makes the most sense. He'll hit the FA market entering his age 31 season. If he has a good year and stays healthy, he'll get paid next offseason.

5:52
If you were in the A's FO, what is the max amount you would be willing to trade for 1 year of Jarrod Dyson? Perhaps Raul Alcantara and a low-A flier?
Jason Martinez
5:52
Yeah, I don't think they'd offer very much for 1 year of a guy who has never been a full-time starter. Seems like he'd have more value on a potential contender like the Royals as a part-time guy. Can never get a good feel for what the A's are going to do, though.
