heard anything about kemp getting moved?  with him on the payroll, it really dappens the dodgers ability to make any necessary trades at the deadline...

They're not getting anyone to take on that contract or probably not even part of it. If he doesn't make their Opening Day roster with a strong spring (he could be LF platoon), I think they'll release him.

Do you see Brendan Rodgers getting called up this season before September?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:22
Probably not without an injury to Story or LeMahieu. But there's at least a chance that Story struggles and Rodgers forces his way to the Majors. Story was mediocre vs RHP and not great outside of Coors Field, so I don't think he'd have a long leash if Rodgers was crushing the ball in AAA around mid-season.

Do you think that Charlie Tilson will be a regular this season, assuming he doesn
AvatarJason Martinez
5:24
By default, I would say his chances are looking very good. Engel was bad last season. May was outrighted off the 40-man roster. Of course, they could still sign a CF. Someone like Cameron Maybin would be a good fit because he can start if Tilson struggles or at least platoon.

Why are the brewers so interested in CF upgrades (Cain, Yelich) when they have a deep prospect list of players (Brinson, Phillips, Ray, etc) do they not have any hope for anyone in that bunch to take the role sooner than later?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:27
They'd be cashing in on some depth in a season where they think they can compete. So instead of relying on an unproven CF (Phillips or Brinson), they get the established player who is already pretty damn good. And signed for 5 years.

Jasonnnnnn! Care to take a stab at the 4 most valuable Reds' SPs after Castillo will be this year?

I'll say one of DeSclafani or Finnegan will bounce back from injury with a strong season. I think Mahle will hold his own. Stephenson appeared to turn a corner (finally) late in the season. And I think Jose Lopez (3.18 ERA, 8.8 K/9 in 150 IP between AA/HiA) can help out in '18.

Isn’t Mariano eligible for the HOF in 2019?
AvatarJason Martinez

Yeah, sorry. In my mind, he's already in.

Do I go in with Angels hat?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:34
Tough call.  I'd say Expos. 7 full seasons in Montreal vs 6 with the Angels. More games with Montreal and he started his career there. He did win the MVP with the Angels.

What could Sox get for Avi Garcia?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:36
For 2 yrs of Avisail, it would cost less than the Cardinals got for 4 yrs of Grichuk.
5:37
The career year he just had helps his value, but still not a great market for OFs.

5:37
Does the Tribe make a move before the season starts and does Yandy Diaz make the opening day roster?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:39
Still a chance they trade Kipnis, which would likely open up a spot for Yandy. If not, I think he'll be in AAA. He's played a lot of OF the last 2 yrs to increase his versatility. But I read that he's going to remain at 3B so not sure they're comfortable with him a bench guy in the Majors.

Do you actually see Austin Hedges as part of the "young core" in SD? Dude is averaging .199 BA after ~600 PAs
AvatarJason Martinez
5:42
Margot and Myers are the only ones I consider to be a definitive part of that group. Everyone else is trying to get there, including Hedges. He doesn't have to provide much at the plate, but he needs to be better than last season (.262 OBP!).

Hey Jason!!! Not many projections today? What do you see Schwarber doing this season?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:44
This is what I got ... .249/.348/.491; 28 HR, 18 2B, 62 BB in 501 PAs.
5:45
Maybe I need to decrease his HRs and add some SBs now that he's a skinny guy
CARDINALS
5:45
Is the "Luke Gregerson will be our closer" all smoke and mirrors at this point? They cant actually be serious can they. One more bat and arm away from contending don't ya think?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:48
If the season started today, I think Lyons and Leone would share save chances with Gregerson until someone like Reyes or some hard-throwing rookie that comes out of nowhere takes over. I think Greg Holland is in play, but they could be more focused on adding a bat. If the hitter adds too much to their payroll (Hosmer?), they would probably pass on Holland.

Who won the Randal gruichuk trade
AvatarJason Martinez
5:52
Cardinals needed a reliever and Leone is coming off of a great season. And they had an abundance of outfielders and Grichuk was the odd man out. With that said, the Jays sold high on Leone and bought low on Grichuk. The Cards could regret it unless Conner Greene ends up being a good MLB pitcher. I like the Jays in this deal.

Would Verdugo Alvarez Pederson and White get the Dodgers Yelich?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:55
It's a strong package. So, maybe. Not sure if the Marlins would prefer a younger player over Pederson (3 yrs left of club control). With that said, he can be a strong trade chip if he bounces back from a disappointing season.

Which NL Central will impact his team most in 2018, Flaherty, Woodruff or Mahle?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:56
I'll go with Flaherty.

5:58
What would a Cubs trade package for Yelich look like?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:59
I'd offer Albert Almora, Victor Caratini, Adbert Alzolay and Alex Lange. They might counter with Ian Happ instead of Almora or Caratini.

If the Phils add a strong starter via singing or trade, how far would they be from being a contender?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:02
If they add Darvish or Arrieta, I could see them as legitimate WildCard contenders. Bullpen is strong. Lineup looks promising. They'd still need at least two of their young pitchers to step up. Would help if Vince Velasquez could stay healthy.

You think Brandon leibrandt has a chance of making Phillies rotation
AvatarJason Martinez
6:04
Probably not, but I think he has a chance to make it to Philly in '18. Seems like they have about 5-8 pitchers who have been good in the upper minors (De Los Santos, Eshelman, Eflin, Taveras), but don't really profile as more than No. 4 SP. Good depth, but their guys with frontline potential (Sixto Sanchez) are further away.

Prefer Vargas, Hellickson, or Tillman for the Nats?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:07
Vargas seems to be the safest pick, which is fine because the Nats just need a reliable No. 5 starter. He was also pretty good last season. Won 18 games and went to the All-Star game.
