Jason Martinez
4:30
Thanks for stopping by! I'll answer as many questions as possible in the next 90 minutes.
Mike
4:30
What kind of season do you think Vogelbach has?
Jason Martinez
4:32
Hard to know how his PCL success will carry over, but I think the high number of walks and BB/K ratio indicates that he shouldn't be overwhelmed. I have him with a .761 OPS and 13 HR in about 400 PAs.
Josh
4:32
Could the Pirates surprise people this year and make the playoffs?
Jason Martinez
4:33
Pitching staff seems a bit thin to me, but if Searage can work his magic on Drew Hutchison and Glasnow can give them 20 good starts, I wouldn't count them out.
Ricardo Rincon
4:34
what's the scoop on Jose Quintana to NYY and will Gleyber Torres break camp with MLB club?
Jason Martinez
4:35
No way on Torres. Fast-rising prospect but never played about HiA ball. Likely headed to AA to begin the season. If he dominates that level (and possibly in AAA if promoted) and the Yankees are in the playoff race and have a need for Torres' bat, I could see him forcing his way into the picture.
4:36
Hard to see Quintana being traded before June or, most likely, late July. Teams want to get a better idea of how their team looks out of the gate before making a decision of that magnitude.

4:37
How great has this WBC been?
Jason Martinez
4:39
I was at the Dominican Republic vs Puerto Rico game yesterday. As a Padres fan who hasn't seen a meaningful game in about 7 years, it was a lot of fun to see a game played with that much passion. Those guys were so hyped up after big plays (Rosario throw, Yadier to Baez CS).
Brad Penny
4:40
Odds that Eric Gagne pitches again in the majors?
Jason Martinez
4:41
If he gets an MiLB deal, I think he'll get a shot eventually. I haven't done the math for 2016, but I believe the average number of RPs used per team a few years was close to 20.
Mason Jartinez
4:42
Which flawed but interesting Florida team do you think is more likely to contend? The Rays with lots of pitching-depth and some solid offensive upgrades or the strong position player core and bullpen of the Marlins with the spotty rotation?
Jason Martinez
4:44
Aside from the Marlins not having guys who can pitch deep into games, they also don't have much SP depth. It will be interesting to see how much their RP talent/depth can make up for it. This is the most extreme version of this that I can remember. Rays could surprise, especially if 1-2 rookie pitchers take the next step and a 1-2 RPs can help Colome/Boxberger in the late innings (Tommy Hunter? Shawn Tolleson?).
Homer Laker
4:45
Out of McCarthy/Ryu/Wood/Kazmir, who has the most trade value?
Jason Martinez
4:46
Alex Wood. Low cost. 3 yrs of club control. The other guys all have injury questions.
Jordan
4:48
Musgrove or fiers win the final rotation spot for the astros?
Jason Martinez
4:48
If healthy, I think Fiers begins the season in the rotation. Musgrove might not be ready to handle a full-season workload (30+starts), so better to monitor his workload for a few weeks and plan on him being available thru September/October.
Surprised
4:49
Would you be surprised if Mitch Haniger Seattle OF is available FA in 12 team roto??
Jason Martinez
4:49
Not really. I drafted him late in the MLBTR draft last night and Yahoo had him ranked in the 1000s. Depends on how savvy your league-mates are, I guess.

4:51
Any chance Dodger MGT trades from their surplus of Starting Pitching before opening day?
Jason Martinez
4:51
No chance. Ryu, McCarthy, Kazmir all have injury concerns. Teams wouldn't offer much for those guys until they've proven during the season that they were healthy. And Dodgers won't trade a healthy guy (Wood) knowing that those other guys have injury concerns.

4:52
Is Jankowski a dark horse leadoff hitter for the Padres? Especially with Dickersons back issues right now?
Jason Martinez
4:53
I've had him projected there all along. Even if Dickerson stays healthy (currently battling back problems), I think there are plenty of ABs for 4 OFs and I think they'd go with Jankowski in the 1 or 2 spots when he's in the lineup.
Jimmy
4:54
How many HR for Schwarber this year out of the leadoff spot?
Jason Martinez
4:55
Not sure how long he'll stick as the leadoff man, but I think he'll get 22-27 HR in 500-550 PAs. If he proves that he can handle LHP and forces the team to play him everyday, I think he goes for 30+.
Pedro Alvarez
4:56
Am I really gonna play the outfield?
Jason Martinez
4:56
I guess it's worth a shot. Not sure why you'd sign with a team that has almost no ABs available at the DH spot. Not many ABs available in the OF for that matter.

4:58
What kind of season do you see for Josh Bell?
Jason Martinez
4:58
I'm a fan. High BA and OBP, but I wouldn't expect many HR. I believe I have him at .285/.370/.420 with 10-15 HR and around 25-30 2B in 500 PAs. Could also hit at top of lineup (1st or 2nd).

Can the Nats win it all this year
Jason Martinez
5:00
If Strasburg stays healthy, I think they have a great chance. If not, SP depth might not be good enough. They'll also need someone to step up and lock down the closer's job, but I'm a believer in Shawn Kelley.
Ian
5:01
Jones, Brach, Hardy, Machado, Britton all free agents in 2 years. How the orioles handle this?
Jason Martinez
5:03
If they aren't competing in July, I think they have to consider a full rebuild. Window is closing. Farm system isn't very good. They would just need Peter Angelos to buy in. I think the success of the Cubs and Astros with their rebuilds will help.

5:04
Will Rockies go outside of organization to acquire relief for injured pitchers, 1B and C?
Jason Martinez
5:04
Don't think so. Sounds like Murphy and Desmond will be back by May. Tony Wolters/Dustin Garneau are a capable catching duo and Mark Reynolds is capable of holding things down at 1B for a month. Ryan Howard at Coors Field could be fun, though.
Jacob
5:05
Braves will contend sooner rather than later. What do they truly need.
Jason Martinez
5:06
I think they'll take the next step to become a .500 team and close to a playoff spot for most of the season. As long as that happens, I think they'll be 1-2 impact players away in 2018. Could go after Darvish/Arrieta/Cueto in free agency. Their farm system might be deep enough to acquire 1 yr of Manny Machado.
Cliff
5:08
What return do you think the Dodgers FO can get for Chris Hatcher and will they trade/outright/play him after ST is over?
Jason Martinez
5:08
Doesn't look like he's having a great spring, based on his stats. At this point, I think teams would have interest in acquiring him because he has a great arm, but wouldn't offer anything of value.
