I will play the Trout game....would Albies, Newcomb, Pache and Allard get discussion going?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:18
Yeah, that's a good start. Angels probably wouldn't hang up if that was the first offer.
Jeff
5:19
Odubel Herrera for Nick Castellanos. Any chance?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:20
Phillies are awful defensively. Not sure how much better Castellanos will get in the OF, but he's also really bad out there right now.

Best guesses on who our Catcher will be, since Billy's focus (and limited funds) will be Pitching..Thanks

5:22
I'll say Matt Wieters or Brian McCann. They should bring Jeff Mathis back to be the backup.

Jason, good afternoon. Who will my Tribe go after for outfield and  bullpen help.
AvatarJason Martinez
5:25
They have a bunch of in-house options ... Greg Allen, Tyler Naquin, Leonys Martin, Bradley Zimmer, Jordan Luplow (acquired today), Oscar Mercado and a few other decent options in AAA. I can see them adding one more low-cost corner OF to the mix. Maybe someone like Jon Jay.
5:26
They need another late-inning reliever to pair with Brad Hand. Maybe someone like AJ Ramos or Bud Norris. Limited options if they want to cut payroll.

What would it take for the Padres to land Marcus Semien? And, in another deal, Eugenio Suarez? Thanks
AvatarJason Martinez
5:30
Two years of Marcus Semien would cost much less than acquiring Suarez, who is signed thru '24 (club option for '25). I think they'd be aggressive in their pursuit of Suarez and give up a couple of their best prospects not named Tatis.
5:31
Semien would still cost a pretty good prospect, but I wouldn't expect any of their best 5-8 to go in that type of deal. Their 9-20 prospects are about as good as most team's 4-10.

Gimme a bold move the A's can make
AvatarJason Martinez
5:35
They have almost no $ on the books right now. Even if they signed Harper or Machado, I wouldn't call it bold. Maybe if they signed both. They need to trade for pitching. Trading Manaea, who is out for '19 but would still be under control thru '22, would be a bold move.

Frazier, German and Loaisiga for James Paxton. Do you pull the trigger if you’re the Yankees?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:37
Yeah, I'd do that deal.

Jason, who do you think will better live up to their contract, Machado or Harper?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:41
I honestly think they'll both be fine. For however long the contracts are, they'll be in their prime for at least 5-6 years of it. That's good value. So if they get a noine year contract, for example, then the team won't have to worry too much about regression. Anything over 10 years and it can get ugly, though.

I get the talent is unreal but I never understood the sydengaard hype. Guy never seems like he can stay healthy for a full year
AvatarJason Martinez
5:42
He's surpassed 150 innings in 3 of his 4 seasons. These days, that's just fine. Ideally, he can get into the 28-32 start range and 180+ innings.
Baby it’s cold outside

About to get a snow storm in the northeast. Warm my heart up and tell me evoldi is signing with the Sox and soon!!!

That World Series championship should be more than enough to get you through the winter. I'd be ecstatic if my Padres could just break their string of 8 consecutive losing seasons.

Does Brian Doizer fit on a one year deal to rebuild value and maybe be flipped at the deadline?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:49
O's won't be his first choice, but it's possible. That seems like a sure bet to be traded to a playoff contender in July.
Nick Markakis
5:49
1 year deal to Baltimore?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:51
He deserves better after that season he just had. Plus, the O's are rebuilding and they have some young outfielders that need to get some ABs ... Mullins, DJ Stewart, Austin Hays, Yusniel Diaz.

What would it take for the Dodgers to get Kluber and Brad Hand from Cleveland?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:53
Just because the Indians are open to trading one of their starting pitchers doesn't mean they're tearing the whole thing down. Still the best team in the AL Central and they're one of the few teams with enough SP depth to make a trade. Hand is their best reliever. They need to add bullpen help.

Super Tommy Pham was back after he joined the Rays. What type of numbers do you think he will end up with in 2019?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:56
No reason to think he can't get back to .300/.400/.500.
AJ
5:57
Besides Harper, which outfielder is the best fit for Atlanta's young core?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:58
I think either Brantley or McCutchen would be great fits on that team.

What would it take for Brodie to move any of the 3 signed last year in Bruce, Frazier, or Vargas? Is a move possible?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:00
He'd need to eat some salary and not expect much back. Trading Bruce might make the most sense. I think he'll try to get that done. I think Vargas will bounce back.

You spoke of Brian McCann above, what kind of contract can we expect for him? I have no idea how to gauge it.
AvatarJason Martinez
6:02
He's entering his age-35 season and he was hurt for most of '18 so he won't get more than a 1-year deal. I think it will be a low base salary ($5-8MM) with incentives.

Being that the A's have 3B, SS and RF locked down, maybe not Machado and Harper, but what about them landing Kimbrel, Corbin and Keuchel?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:05
Definitely in on the SPs but can't see Kimbrel there. Never can have enough relievers, but that is not an area of need for Oakland.
Austin

What will the Mets do with CF nest
AvatarJason Martinez
6:08
Nimmo/Lagares seems fine to me. They have bigger needs to address.
