BTW, if you haven't read what he wrote for the Player's Tribune, do it. I'll definitely be rooting for him in all respects this year.
Michael
3:21
Whatever happened to Jurickson Profar?
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
Firmly back on the comeback trail. Another guy I'm hoping will have a chance to succeed in the very near future.
Donald Trump
3:22
You wouldn't be so quick to disavow if you could see all the delicious high quality Trump steaks I could lavish you with.
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
Fair point. Plus, Trump does own the big golf course near where I grew up in Virginia. So my actual (but apparently fake) father could get in 18 whenever he wants.
Ruben Tejada
3:23
How likely is it that STL acquires a shortstop via trade? And if the do, how likely is it to be me? I really don't want to go over there...
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
I think it's highly likely they add another player, I just don't think it's inevitable that it'll be Aybar. Steve and I chat about this on the podcast today (oops, sorry). You just don't see a ton of spring trades, and it isn't as if injuries are a new concept.
3:24
I think Tejada on March 30th (or whatever) is exactly the kind of deal they'll end up making. Other clubs will want to make sure they get through camp unscathed before parting with excess or unretainable depth.

I think I did a great job in the off season, upgrading where we needed help. The lineup is as dangerous as ever, and I finally paid attention to my BP. My starters could be better, but all and all I think we are being drastically underestimated. Do you agree at all?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
I am actually pretty favorably disposed toward the Tigers' offseason, yeah. Doesn't mean I love every signing, but all in all they added a fair bit of quality and depth for the total investment.
3:26
Zimmermann came at a pretty reasonable price b/c they knew he wanted to play in the midwest, JUpton has one of those early opt-out deals that I think actually makes sense, and I thought it was great to go for KRod out of the gates.
Mike
3:27
With he well stated need, why does Cleveland not just take back Bourn since they are paying half his salary anyway?
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
He's probably not worth the other half? But maybe they'd kick back another mil, I don't know. The org seems oddly unconcerned about the OF situation. Steve Adams just wrote his offseason in review piece for CLE, and called it the worst unaddressed issue for any contending team.
Koh
3:29
Kenta Maeda 5 scoreless innings this spring now. Meanwhile Kazmir and Wood have been pounded. Could Maeda pitch himself into the number 2 role this spring?
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
Doesn't matter who pitches where until the postseason, and we're a long ways off from that. It also largely doesn't matter how pitchers perform in the spring.
3:30
That being said, it's always nice to see some good results from someone who has never faced big league hitters.
(When I say how pitchers perform, I am of course referring to results. It matters how well they are throwing, obviously.)

Does Belt get extended soon? If the Giants wait until next season, doesn't Belt decide to play out the last year, and see what the market offers? IOW isn't Belt as good as gone unless the Giants extend him before he enters his last year before free-agency?
Jeffrey Todd
3:31
I don't see Belt as the kind of player that you'd look at in that regard. Players reach free agency all the time, so it isn't as if you have to extend them or disaster will strike.
3:32
SFG could ultimately prefer to keep that position open for Posey, and might rather see how things play out -- unless Belt will take a deal that is considered cheap enough to just go ahead and lock him up.
(Plus, never say never on Giants extension. They locked up Pence and Lincecum juuuuust before the qualified for FA.)

Mets need Ruben Tejada Astrubal is injured.
Jeffrey Todd
3:33
See, exactly. You never know.
BB8
3:33
Is this the year Brandon Belt fully breaks out, stays healthy and unleashes his 30+ HR potential?
Jeffrey Todd
3:33
Dang, they totally should've extended him first. Giants are screwed!
3:34
I don't know, does he really have that kind of potential? I'm a fan of his, don't get me wrong, but he doesn't look to me to have enormous overall upside. About to turn 28 and only topped 20 bombs in his first year in the minors.
Donald Trump
3:34
Is that an endorsement for me?
Jeffrey Todd
3:34
Hell no.
Bob
3:35
Who has the best year of Cole, Wacha, Syndergaard, Matz, and CarMart?
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
If I were a betting man -- which I most assuredly am -- I would probably take Cole. Now, my heart is with Noah, but I'm worried about the innings that he (and Harvey/deGrom) threw last year.
robert
3:36
miguel tejada to the cards
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
Now this is outside the box thinking. You're hired.
Trump
3:37
Laugh all you want. I am going to be your next President so you better deal with it.
Jeffrey Todd
3:37
You're fired. (Last one with that nonsense, promise.)
Robert
3:37
Their rotation needs help. Verlander isn't the same pitcher. Sanchez is falling apart. Zimmerman is their most dependable arm now. Norris is young with major upside. And Pelfrey.....well I cant believe they paid Pelfrey.
Jeffrey Todd
3:37
I wasn't in love with adding Big Pelf on that deal, but the SP market really was insane this winter.
Daniel Bard
3:38
What ever happened to me?
Jeffrey Todd
3:38
I know that Bard is pitching somewhere, b/c there was a moment when some beat writers couldn't figure out who was entering a game and it turned out to be him.
3:39
Generally, failed attempt to transition to rotation followed by possibly part physical part mental control issues. Many chances to catch on with various orgs haven't worked out.
