You can't put a Trout comp on anyone; that's like "Baby Jordan" nonsense that used to go on in hoops. But I do think we have a tendency to get over-excited about guys that had nice short-sample debuts (say, Schwarber) and too down on ones that didn't.
4:00
Bux's tools are still top-notch, and he produced at Triple-A last year, so I'm just as bullish on him as I am the other top guys. But Trout? That's asking too much. Would be nice to see him turn in a 3-4 win campaign.

Who is the odd man out in the AZ middle infield?
Jeffrey Todd
4:01
Looks like Ahmed is the backup. Makes sense.

Does Grilled Cheese start the year as closer or does he share it with Vizcaino?
Jeffrey Todd

Could the Rockies trade Arenado?
Jeffrey Todd
4:01
Not any time soon.

Dan Straily for Erik Kratz. Seems like a good deal for SD, right? Straily is young and has upside. Kratz just fills a need for HOU.
Jeffrey Todd
4:02
Not sure what upside there is, really. But young/cheap, sure. He's also out of options, so he could end up bouncing around on waivers if they don't keep him.
4:03
In terms of pure value, sure, Straily is more valuable. But that doesn't matter in this kind of trade. HOU obviously decided Kratz was the veteran guy they wanted, and they obviously didn't have a use for Straily. So, value is kind of irrelevant from their perspective. But yeah, makes sense for SDP..
4:04
I guess, I would agree with you if you mean contractual upside for Straily. But in terms of what kind of a pitcher, the results haven't been there at all over the last 2 years, including in the minors.

Which Rule V guy is most likely to stick for the whole year?
Jeffrey Todd
4:04
Dunno, but looks again like several have a very legitimate chance.
Phils guys, Rickard, etc.
Larry
4:04
Panik and Duffy for Jose Fernandez, who hangs up first?
Jeffrey Todd
4:05
No way that gets Jose, in my view.
I mean, Panik has shown a nice floor and even a bit of upside, and is young/cheap. Duffy is sort of a similar asset, but with a year less track record. But neither has the kind of star-level ceiling that I think MIA would have to be after. And they need arms.
4:06
(Also, probably not a deal that SFG would be interested in pursuing, so ... I'm not sure why I went down this road.)
Martina
4:07
Did Brian Wilson drop off the face of the Earth? What is going on with that guy?
Jeffrey Todd
4:07
So far as baseball transactions are concerned, yeah, he did.
Matt
4:08
How soon before Josh Bell gets a chance in Pittsburgh?
Jeffrey Todd
4:09
Pirates don't push prospects up and are very aware of service time. I don't think it happens for him in the first half barring a truly perfect storm of need at the MLB level and performance on his part.
John
4:10
What would a long-term Josh Donaldson contract look like?
Jeffrey Todd
4:10
Hmmm
He is already 30
4:11
Wonder if they could get it done by adding on like five more years at something like 130? He's already got 2/28 coming his way.
4:12
That might be light, I dont know, but given the still-remaining arb year .... I shouldn't try answering these things on the fly!
Sam
4:12
What are your thoughts on Tyler Duffey losing out on the fifth spot to Ricky Nolasco?
Jeffrey Todd
4:13
It's kind of hard to argue with if you look at what they did this spring. Nolasco K'ed 14 in 13 innings, or something like that, and Duffey was legitimately awful. What was it, 6:6 K:BB in a dozen innings? Oof. He only has ten MLB starts under his belt. I can see why they did it.
Troy
4:13
How long do the Cards continue with the Holliday to first experiment?
Jeffrey Todd
4:14
I've seen suggestions he's looked comfy over there, so ... as long as they want?

If the sox decided to trade Castillo, what would they get in return?
Jeffrey Todd
4:14
Some salary relief.

4:14
Does Michael Taylor break into the starting lineup or is he destined for 4th OF status?
Jeffrey Todd
4:15
I bet he ends the year with more PAs than Werth. But I don't think he's just going to become the everyday starter unless he's absolutely raking for the first half of the year or something. Nothing wrong with sharing two OF spots with those three guys (Taylor/Werth/Revere).

4:16
Made a suggestion on a trade proposal swapping contracts and was horridly rejected, your thoughts: Shields to ATL, Kemp, Swish (Sub in Bourn now) and Hedges to MIL, and Braun and Lucroy to SD? No one eats any contract.
Jeffrey Todd
4:16
Yeah, sorry man, that's just not a good trade proposal. At all.

Over / under 30 HRs for Correa?
Jeffrey Todd
4:17
Under.
