MLBTR Live Chat With Jeff Todd

We'll all just hang out a minute while the chat room fills up.
I may nap, honestly.

How much to lock up Mookie/how long would it be?
Jeffrey Todd
2:28
Anybody's guess. I think he's established himself enough that he'd be able to hold out for whatever he thinks is enough to get it done. He's not in the position that, say, Mike Trout was -- he's only a 1+ service class player and isn't showing signs of being an all-time great -- but at a certain point you have enough leverage to move beyond comps somewhat. It'd have to be a lengthy, high-dollar deal, that's for sure.

Thoughts on Sandoval? I really thought they would have at least let him play out April to see if he had anything
Jeffrey Todd
2:29
I am surprised, yes. They obviously weren't getting the performance or motivation they wanted to see, though, so maybe this is still the best way to get him turned around in the long run?
2:30
If nothing else, clearly DD was given authorization to ignore $ in reshaping the roster.

Will Tyler Skaggs make any type of positive impact this season, upon return?
Jeffrey Todd
2:31
Most guys who come back from TJ are a little below their standard. A few never really make it back. Odds are he'll more or less be on his former trajectory, but will be limited in terms of innings and may not be super sharp. He's also had a lengty rehab time, IIRC ... though I'm not sure which way that cuts.
Halos certainly need him to produce.

Do you find 15 minute naps better for the body or 1 hour+?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
Big power nap proponent. 20 mins for me. I also try to sleep in 1.5 hour increments. This is more orderly than anything else in my life, weirdly. Just a thing I heard about, tried, and found to work.

I just heard the cubs under over is 93.5. Thoughts
Jeffrey Todd
2:33
Sounds fair, I might even suggest a little light, if only b/c the best NL teams will have better records than their AL counterparts.
Mike
2:33
So no MAILBAG?
Jeffrey Todd
2:34
We'll re-start when Steve gets back. It actually takes forever to do, and there's too much going on. Also training our new hire -- you ought to see his posts tonight!

Does Aaron Sanchez show his stuff right out of the gate and not look back as a permanent starter for Toronto?
Jeffrey Todd
2:35
No, even if he's just killing it he'd have to move to the pen at some point, probably. He only threw 100 innings last year.
Brian
2:35
How long will/should Tyson Ross be a Padre and who are the main trade partners that would line up for him? What kind of return should the Padres get in return for Ross?
Jeffrey Todd
2:35
Either a few more days or a few more months.
2:36
I'm not going to try to ID trade partners right now, since a deal this late in spring is unlikely (but would be super fun). As for a return? He's a valuable pitcher and lots of teams just spent lots of money on starters, so ... somethin' good.
Owen
2:37
Name 2 big regression candidates
Jeffrey Todd
2:37
I'll take Cespedes and Greinke. Don't think either will come close to repeating their bottom line results.
Bryant
2:38
What's your take on Cleveland sending Bauer to the pen? Good or bad move?
Jeffrey Todd
2:39
It's certainly interesting. I would really love to hear the full reasoning, because you'd think you'd give a guy in his position the first shot at holding a rotation job. Maybe they just really feel they need every win and it's a more valuable combo to have him in the pen with the other two starting. I don't know.

2:40
Is anybody out there interested in De Aza's services? He had a good spring training.
Jeffrey Todd
2:41
Spring doesn't really matter much for a guy like him other than showing health. Everyone knows what he is - sturdy 4th OF. I think they'll have to eat cash to move him.

2:41
Does Panda for Shields make any sense? OR is that just internet fodder at this point?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
Seems more idle chatter to me. Pablo can still regain some value, of course, but he's essentially a roll of the dice right now. Shields is diminished but still useful. So they are different assets with different values. I think Pablo <<< Shields at this point.
2:43
As to whether the teams can bridge the gap, or even have any interest in doing so ... eh? I guess I can see it. But I'm not sure why SDP wouldn't rather hold onto Shields, hope the team wins some games, and reconsider dealing him at the deadline.

Will Julio Teheran still be wearing a Braves uniform at the end of 2016? What about Nick Markakis?
Jeffrey Todd
2:44
I'll guess no and yes.
Mike
2:44
Did Bigpapi4ever get banned from the site?
Jeffrey Todd
2:44
Believe so, yes.
Jacob
2:45
If the Twins rotation struggles or encounters injuries, do they turn to Trevor May or look to Berrios/Duffy/etc. in Triple-A?
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
You're going to go to someone who's stretched out. Duffey might just have been a flash in the pan, but have to figure he's first up unless he's just getting smoked in Triple-A.
Michal Farrell
2:46
Boston gets 110 wins? The best lineup in the AL East by far. Best bullpen. Pretty good rotation. The best starter in the AL in David price.
Jeffrey Todd
2:46
Hmmm ... maybe bigpapi4ever is back
That is A LOT of wins. Even if they stood out as the best team in baseball, you'd basically never predict anything like that.
Michael

Any clear destination for Kyle Lohse?
