Is Odubbel Herrera this good? Can he keep up the walks and OBP all season?
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
Okay I promise I'll move away from the Phillies, but ... holy crap, yeah. Obviously we should expect some regression, but you can't walk that much for this long without a change in approach that is at least somewhat supported by skill. Again, really impressive.

What do the Cardinals do with Peralta when he comes back if Diaz is still destroying NL pitching? You can't sit a player who leads the Majors in hitting right?
Jeffrey Todd
2:51
He won't be at the same level he is now, but if he's looking anything near as good as he has then he'll be in the lineup. They have options for moving things around to make sure their most productive bats are in there.

Is the Blue Jay bullpen just collectively going through a bad run, or do drastic changes need to be made?
Jeffrey Todd
2:52
Storen's velo drop is concerning and we can probably readjust our expectations for Cecil, but otherwise it's been pretty much as good or better than expected.

Is the Reds pitching really going to be this bad all year? It has not been easy to watch.
Jeffrey Todd
2:53
That was always the risk of running out a bunch of young starters and questionable relievers. Buckle up.
Wes
2:53
Will the real Shelby Miller please stand up?
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
He's just not that great a pitcher and never really has been. Certainly has value and ought to rebound, but I don't think very many people really saw him as a #2 type arm when he was dealt. Still disappointing so far, of course.

Will John Belushi ever come back from the dead?
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
He would if he had ever died in the first place.
Chew on that.

Where do you think the best fits for Lincecum are once he returns?
Jeffrey Todd
2:55
Any team that will give him a real shot at earning a rotation spot. Not sure who'd really do that, but he should be willing to go pitch at Triple-A for a bit and wait for an opportunity.

Are the Mets going to trade Harvey at the deadline or what
Jeffrey Todd
2:56
No.

2:56
Will Brett Cecil figure things out or is he done
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
Well, his velocity is down and so is his swinging strike rate. He might be able to get back to the double-digit K/9 level if he can add a bit more horsepower or tighten up some other offerings. Otherwise, he'd look like a reduced version of his prior self but still useful enough.

Like the idea of Cargo in left field and moving Melky at DH... if they move him and the white sox take on his entire '17 salary... do they have anyone not named Fulmer or Anderson that could get it done?
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
I'm sure you do like that idea! CarGo isn't going anywhere if the Rockies are remotely in contention. If they do market him, though, I'd expect they'll be looking for that kind of return.

Is it too early to suggest d'Arnaud should change positions?
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
I think so, yeah.
Sorry for being slow, btw, having a bit of trouble with the internet connection.
Henry
3:01
What kind of extension would Garrett Richards garner?
Jeffrey Todd
3:03
So, we have that classic 2+ service time extension of 5-6 years, $30-35MM. Then you have some "keep the guy off the market" deals, usually from guys actually on the cusp of FA. If I'm his people, I'm looking for a serious improvement on the first marker and something more like the latter. He's already into arb and just got his 6MM+ salary for this season.
3:04
Even if he lines up for just 20 mil more in the next two years, and you buy three FA seasons at 15 apiece, you're looking at $65MM. And it probably takes more to get it done. So, he doesn't look likely to be cheap.

Any chance the Cubs wait this season out, make sure Jake is as great as everyone thinks he is, and then give him the big extension before next season?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
Maybe, but seems just as likely they'll enjoy him while he's there and avoid the downside of a huge pitching contract. He is not at all inclined to settle for less than market value.

Do You See The Angels Signing Harper And Stanton When They Are Free Agents?
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
90/10 they get both players, yes.

When will Hunter Pence get the respect he deserves
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
Whoops! Should have check the name first, sorry.
I was going to just say, I think Hunter Pence gets plenty of respect, and rightfully so. And he'd probably be giggling like a schoolboy right now if he was reading.
Jeff
3:07
Given the NL's mediocrity, do you think there will be more sellers this year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
The NL isn't mediocre so much as it is imbalanced. You could argue it's much stronger at the top than the AL, and I probably would. Anyway, yeah, sure, that creates a greater gulf and more likely teams to trade. On the other hand, the cellar dwellers don't look loaded up with interesting assets, exactly. Maybe a lot of movement, but not a lot of big names?

Ryu...When will he be back? Will he be serviceable?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
He's about ready to face live pitching, so he's within shouting distance. Maybe another 4-6 weeks, depending upon progress? Every reason to hope he'll be the same guy, until he shows otherwise.

Is AJ Griffin's early success sustainable?
