I mean, no. Velo and swinging strikes both down from what he used to do with the A's. The results lag the peripherals.

.400 OBP a possibility for odubel?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
Not terribly likely.

3:12
At what point do the braves just bite the bullet and overpay for a power hitter
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
When they have some reason to believe that said hitter will be contributing to a contending team, they can consider it. And they can also remind themselves of where that kind of thinking got them the last time they did it.

Yasmany Tomas...Could this be his breakout year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
Well, it's his second season, and he went through quite a bit going into his first. So, any improvement wouldn't necessarily constitute a breakout. Regardless, he's showing real improvements, not just batted ball luck, so it makes sense to move up expectations. Still needs to show he can maintain it through adjustments, etc, before we're buying a .500+ slugging percentage and serviceable OBP.

Is José Quintana a top 5 AL starter? Small sample size this year sure, but he's been great 3 years running
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
That still might be a bit of a stretch, but he's not far off. You're looking at a guy who's been consistently and quietly really good, who is now showing an uptick in swing and miss. So, pretty nice combo.

When will I make the Hall?
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
Hopefully soon.
Nate
3:17
More annoying things fans do: boo home players or go bonkers over hard hit routine fly balls?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
Close call. I'll take the former, at least if unjustified by player's effort level.
Vincent
3:18
who will have a better year? VV, Aaron Sanchez, or Jose Fernandez? better career?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
Um, you might be overreacting to some early samples.
Wendy's
3:19
Have you had our 4 for 4 yet? It's really good!
Jeffrey Todd
3:20
Is that representative of the number of heart ventricles I'd be clogging?
But for real, we used to dominate some Wendy's JBC in high school/college. Not going to back to you now, though.

Taillon has pitched better so far this year, is there any chance he is up before Glasnow?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
Can't help but be excited by the first couple of starts here, but it's been a long absence. Obviously his innings will be watched closely, and don't want to push him too hard too fast. Still think Glasnow is up first.

Should Yanks be concerned about severino pitching not so good? He was the guy who was billed for a big year in Bronx but till now he is kinda below league average
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
Seems more likely just to be a blip. He's still throwing hard and such. I don't see much of a reason for them to demote him any time soon unless he experiences some huge dip in confidence.

Thoughts on the returning reds pitchers (Bailey, Lamb, Desclafani) and their effects on the Reds staff and future moves?
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
Org has to be excited to get a look and find out. There's immense variability in there. DeSclafani is in some ways the surest thing, bc he was always seen as a solid back of the rotation type who ticked up last year. That's a much tighter bracket of anticipated outcomes than Bailey (more upside, maybe, but can his arm hold together?) and Lamb (still totally unproven at the MLB level).
Nate
3:27
Can we please call for a boycott of any journalist or broadcaster who suggests Arrieta uses steroids. Not even a Cubs fan, but it's stupid and inappropriate.
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
Unless/until there's any actual evidence beyond "LOOK A NO-HITTER," it's not remotely appropriate to suggest it. I made the mistake of watching Stephen A. Smith's comments on it. How does ESPN put that crap on the air?
Torin
3:28
In your opinion, who is the most frustrating young pitcher (great talent, inconsistent results)? Kevin Gausman gets my vote.
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
After watching him the other night, if he doesn't put it together this year, he'd be right up there. Stuff looked awesome.
3:29
But hey, the O's can always trade him to the Cubs if he doesn't work out in Baltimore.
So I'm going to take a few more and then wrap it up.

3:30
When is the earliest you expect to see rumors on more major-like trades?
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
They'll start to crop up pretty soon, but it'll still be way too early for serious discussions to be occurring. Not to say teams won't be doing homework and discussing preliminary possibilities, but it would be a true stunner for a significant deal to go down before late-ish June.

The Nationals need to bring up Giolito and Turner right now, don't you think?
Jeffrey Todd
3:31
Giolito has kind of been not good at Double-A.
Chad Laucamp
3:31
Is there a better minor league slugger name than Balbino Fuenmayor?
Jeffrey Todd
3:31
It's pretty spectacular.
Asked this before, but...
3:32
Twins closers: Seriously, the situation is dicey as Jepson is not feared and already has 3 BS (3 wins for instead of loses for MN would be huge). And Perkins is already done - again. I kept asking about this exact scenario in earlier chats this spring, but no answer from the MLBTR experts. What say you now, pal? THANKS!
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
Well, the pen always looked iffy for this year, and yeah, Jepsen isn't some kind of lock-down reliever. So, I agree, not too exciting.
But they have a lot of power arms nearing the majors, so there's a bit of hope coming.

Are the Yankees entering a horrifying Mets-link multi-year decline?
