Jeffrey Todd

He kind of ran into a buzzsaw yesterday.
Otherwise, still hasn't had much time on the field, so I'm waiting and seeing but generally not expecting a ton of bat.
Chris
2:39
Any rumblings on Greg Holland? Where's the most logical landing spot?
Jeffrey Todd
2:40
Haven't heard anything. Seems like perhaps he'll wait to sign til he's ready to throw at least? Doesn't look like he's going to sign one of these Medlen/Hochevar type deals to rehab and then give up a cheap season after.

Trout trade possibility...5%?

Your thoughts on Dusty's handling of the Harper walk-fest and of Zimmerman's role in the lineup?
Jeffrey Todd
2:41
Unusual confluence of events made that an issue -- what was it, 3x in 2 games that Harper came up with a guy already in scoring position and 2 dead? Zimm didn't come through in any ... okay, it's baseball, an 0-for-3 sample isn't surprising.
2:42
Next day, of course, Zimmerman hits 2 bombs. So ... I think Dusty should stick with the decisionmaking process that led him to make the lineup that way in the first place. As I've mentioned in a few places ... my only lineup issue with the Nats is that they had Michael Taylor in the leadoff spot for way too long.

2:42
How long of a leash do I have as an every day player?
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
Given where the team is at, and the contract he signed, plenty lengthy.
McGrupp
2:43
What's your take on Michael Brantley and the probability of his shoulder being a lingering issue all season? Would you try to trade for him, or does that shoulder scare you off?
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
Don't see them trading him at all.
Gavin
2:43
Do you see the Giants moving Panik for a good returm to make room for Christian Arroyo
Jeffrey Todd
2:44
Not at all.

Why does everybody keep wanting the Sox to add an outfielder when a starting pitcher is clearly a more urgent need?
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
I don't see it as an urgent need. They have options to plug into the fifth spot and can wait to see what's available in July for a real upgrade.
2:46
Then they'll know if they really want to spend big for a guy who'd provide them a 3rd option in a playoff rotation, just get some decent innings, etc.
Brandon
2:46
Most likely Yankee bullpen arm to be traded....betances..miller or chapman?
Jeffrey Todd
2:47
Has to be Chapman - I'd guess the Yankees already drew the sting of acquiring a guy with uncertain domestic violence situation. And obviously he's the one who's a pending FA.
Andrew
2:47
Does Sandy get enough credit for his deadline moves? Everyone was killing him when Gomez fell through and now he looks brilliant!
Jeffrey Todd
2:47
Yeah but that also means he was about to acquire Gomez, so ...
Not that I'd have been concerned with that. Clearly, that's what they wanted to do. And I'd have thought it made sense. Nobody foresaw this collapse from Gomez.
Billy Eppler
2:48
Am I in over my head or will I be able to right this ship?
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
He's not in over his head, he has tons of experience as the #2 guy on baseball's richest team. But righting the ship this year? Nobody could do that from the GM seat.

Why do people have problems with Arrieta's comments? Did he say something particularly wrong, because I'm missing it?
Jeffrey Todd
2:49
Do they? I'd be as confounded as you, then.
Assuming we're talking about this contract extension stuff.

2:49
What's your take on the Arrieta rumors? He pitched 4 years in Baltimore and now is in his 4th year Chicago. He cut his ERA by 61%, he’s given up 100 less runs, half as many home runs, struck out over 200 more batters, His ERA+ went from 77 to 180, his WHIP from 1.472 to 0.933, his FIP from 4.72 to 2.64. I'm sorry, but something's not right about that. If you can name three other pitchers whose careers have turned around that dramatically - seemingly overnight - I'm all ears.
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
There are no rumors whatsoever. There are people making things up because they are interested in getting people to read/watch/whatever they are selling.
He was always known as a supremely talented guy who hadn't figured it out. There are plenty of explanations beyond PEDs. I'll wait for actual evidence before even considering the matter.
Mr. Todd
2:51
Just heard your episode of "The Thinking Episode Podcast"! Great stuff! You seem like a really nice down to earth guy who's got life figured out
Jeffrey Todd
2:51
Hey thanks! Don't have anything figured out, exactly, except to question everything and keep trying.
Derek
2:51
Let's say the Cubs fall short of winning the World Series this year. Do they keep Arrieta and make another run for it or trade him for prospects and still have an ok chance of winning it?
Jeffrey Todd
2:52
Team is set up to win for next several years, and has plenty of money, so I don't see an Arrieta trade unless there was some kind of way they were able to get as much present value + more future value. Not sure how exactly that'd happen, really.

2:53
How much trade value does Fernando Rodney have if he continues his great start?
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
Think he'd be a pretty popular name if he keeps it up. He's had a good bit of good fortune mixed in with some solid underlying numbers.
2:55
So we're not looking at a guy who's back to what he was in 2012. Walks are still up and K's aren't back to where they are, getting a lot of GBs as usual. But he's yet to allow a single HR, has a high strand rate and low BABIP ... all the typical stuff. Some regression to be expected.

2:55
What is the scoop on Reyes? Taking this long to make a decision is ridiculous.
Jeffrey Todd
2:55
They clearly seem to be buying time ... guessing trying to avoid a grievance to contest the suspension?
