Jeffrey Todd

Um, that's high.
3:05
Love seeing the great start, fun team and I can't help but root for Matt Klentak since he was one of our first podcast guests. But even he is being very cautious and realistic in his public statements.
Josh
3:05
Would you rather have Machado or Stanton?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
Contracts aside, Machado. Much rather have the bat and the glove, especially given all he's shown at the plate.
Lou
3:06
What could Plouffe net in a trade? Some solid contenders could use an upgrade and he's been solid.
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
He's a steady player. Maybe the David Freese deal would be something of an analogy, with a premium since you'd be getting him for the 2nd half of this year? Of course, I thought the Cards made out really well in that swap, even though Bourjos was a bust, but I don't think a Grichuk-level prospect would be a huge reach if they were able to get interest from multiple other orgs.
Wayne
3:07
Do you see the Braves possibly competing in 2017 or are we looking beyond that? Thanks
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Barring some massive turnaround of multiple players, no.
Lou
3:08
Nolasco to the Angels? If so, could the Twins get a solid bullpen piece in return?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
Halos aren't taking on that kind of money for that kind of pitcher.

Time to panic about Justin Upton (160 AB!)
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
Not really, his track record is too long and he's too young.
3:11
Obviously there's some cause for concern -- his K:BB numbers are waaaay out of whack -- but it's hard to imagine a guy like him just completely falling off a cliff. Hopefully he can make some adjustments.

3:11
could Teheran and the viz be enough to land Brinson or benintindi
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
I doubt that very much. Maybe a package could net a single, higher-grade prospect if the team really liked both, but that's a big ask.
Gene
3:12
The Dodgers put great stock in their analytics. Yet the bullpen appears to be weak. Just bad luck or did the analytics lead them astray. Would Urias be a quick fix for them?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
A lot of the guys who were decried last year had really strong seasons, so I found it hard to argue with the construction coming into the year. And with starters coming back, that could push some other pieces into the pen. Plus, of course, adding relievers is the easiest thing to do at the deadline. So, let's see how it plays out, but I feel like they were probably prepared for this kind of scenario.
Matt Kemp's OBP
3:14
A .257 OBP = playing well?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
No, it really isn't, and thanks for pointing that out. Still think he's a player that teams would want to have, but yeah, he hasn't done anything to really boost his value this year so I shouldn't have gone along with that premise.
Dragonborn22
3:15
Anyone pumped up with the Otani dude yet? I hear news that he just homered 5 straight games over in Japan, how long must it take for him to pitch or bat here in the bigs?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
Prospect watchers are very excited for him. He's still not entering his final year of control in Japan, though, so little incentive for his current team to release him when the fee is capped at $20MM.

3:17
True or False: Pablo Sandoval is out of baseball in 2017
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
False
Jeff
3:17
What lucky young pitcher will get hitched to the Cubs via trade? Jose Fernandez? Julio Teheran? Sonny Gray if he really isn't physically destroyed?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
Not sure they'll want to give up a whole bunch of prospects for that kind of arm. I mean, sure, at the right price. But I feel like they'll look to be craftier and perhaps angle for a different type of asset. Price should be higher even than usual for high-performing, controllable starters.
Justino
3:20
No team would really take Votto's contract though, would they?
Jeffrey Todd
3:20
No, I don't think so.
Doesn't mean something couldn't be worked out.
JT
3:21
Christian Arroyo for Danny Salazar?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
That's not enough for Salazar, and the Indians are set up to compete this year. Expect they'll be looking at promotions/additions to boost the lineup rather than selling from the rotation.
Dealer
3:22
Schwarber, Baez, Hendricks, McKinney and Gleyber Torres get Mike Trout?
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
Not if I was in charge of the team that had Trout, not close.
Phillies
3:23
Should teams be calling about Hellickson, Gomez, Bailey, D. Hernandez? What's the likely return?
Jeffrey Todd
3:24
Don't think the Phils will or should be selling early. If you happen to luck into a chance at a winning year, you don't just abandon it. They could easily add a few veteran pieces to bolster the lineup if they happen to have somehow maintained this pace come summer. If not, they can sell at that time.
Anyway, other teams aren't going to be giving up huge prices for pitchers that have outperformed expectations over relatively small stretches oft ime.
Rob S
3:25
Will Profar or Gallo get traded since they're stuck in the minors?
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
Both could still be important pieces in the future, but hey, highly talented players who are on the cusp of the majors make for great trade pieces.
Julio Franco
3:26
Can I make one more season?
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
I wish, that'd be awesome.
Adam
3:27
Do you think the Brewers could look to trade Jonathan Villar? He has been a pretty hard-nosed player and seems like solid defense. Teams are always looking for defense and speed up the middle.
