I'd keep him and see if he's really found something. Only 1+ service and will be controlled for league minimum next year.

Do the Orioles have a shot to retain Machado long-term?
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
If they can go get Davis back, then yeah, sure. But he's not going to be cheap at all.

Which number will be higher at the end of the year, Cubs Wins, or Braves losses

What do the Cardinals do when Jhonny Peralta comes back? Diaz is still handling the bat very well, any chance we see a trade?
Jeffrey Todd

Are you still thinking about moving away from Colorado?
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
Yeah it's happening ... going to go back to Virginia, mostly so our kids can be closer to their grandparents.

You really think Markakis compares to Melvin or Kemp? While showing ZERO power, his consistent bat has to be worth more no?
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
I meant in relation to their contracts, and said they could approach him. As I've said before re Markakis, he's a guy who's kind of worth his deal, and who some teams would probably like to have at that commitment and others really would not. Point is that, as their contracts get shorter and if they can be reasonably productive, Upton and Kemp can profile similarly.

Jeffrey... Ricky Romero begs to differ with you on Justin Upton (re: falling off a cliff)
Jeffrey Todd
3:33
Pitchers are different. Not saying it's impossible, just saying it's far too soon to declare him a fundamentally different player.

3:34
Can you see Dombrowski raking the farm for Miggy to replace Ortiz?
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
No, I can't. Especially with Miggy just now starting his eight-year, $240MM contract. Yikes.
Julio Teheran
3:36
2.73 ERA I guess = being the worst starting pitcher in baseball today Right Jeffrey?
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
Yep, that's exactly what I said. ???
Jeff
3:36
What would it take for the Giants to get Andrew Miller? (Buster Olney identified the Giants as a hypothetical landing spot earlier)
Jeffrey Todd
3:37
Teams are going to have to pry him away from NYY, which is already set to lose Chapman after the season (if not earlier). And there are lots of clubs that would love to have him. I expect he'll fetch a big return.
Statman
3:37
Do Sabermetric guys really think RBI is a meaningless stat? Or one that is not that meaningful?
Jeffrey Todd
3:38
It reflects skill, and it reflects situational awareness/ability. But by the time you remove all the noise involved, you may as well utilize other statistics instead.
They are more meaningful in terms of predictive value and reflection of skill and prior contributions. That's all.
3:39
I do find it kind of ironic that people who really hate newfangled stats also tend to really love the old ones ... which were just created as sort of primitive attempts at explaining what player X is/isn't good at. Why wouldn't you be open to improve?
(Not accusing Statman of that standpoint, btw.)
3:40
Couple more and I'll have to wrap it up here ...
Halo Fan
3:40
What could the Angels get in return at the trade deadline for an above average Tim Lincecum in limited appearances?
Jeffrey Todd
3:40
I mean, not much unless he somehow comes out guns blazing. Every other team in the league just had a chance to assess his ability and sign him.
Chris
3:41
Will Brandon Phillips finish out his current contract in Cinci?
Jeffrey Todd
3:41
Sure seems that way -- he wasn't interested in being reunited with Dusty Baker on a winning club.

I have read a lot about Albies and Swanson not having enough ABs in the minors, but both seem mature and ready to contribute. why don't the Braves promote them after super two deadline and just let them play. they cant do worse than the players the braves are putting on the field now.
Jeffrey Todd
3:42
They could probably still use the development time and then you're unnecessarily burning their service clocks, too.
3:43
Okay y'all gonna have to run here.
Thanks as always!
