MLBTR Live Chat With Jeff Todd

Peripherals still aren't great, but hard to argue much with his track record and he's still giving innings. And getting good results right now.

With their relative strong starts to the season what return can the Reds expect for Cozart and Bruce?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
Still not expecting major returns for either. Cozart's track record as a hitter is still thin, so unless he keeps up this pace there won't be immense demand. Plus, SS isn't a spot that has a lot of needs around the league, though he is good with the glove. Bruce's defensive issues are mounting and he's not cheap.

IS Tim Dierkes ever going to do a chat again? No offense. I'd prefer him over jeffTodd.
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
Who wouldn't?

If Cespedes continued to play this well, what do you think he will command on the open market?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
Well, if he keeps this up he'll be a legit MVP candidate and it'll be two years running at this high level. Way, way too soon to know, but with a thin market you could see him in the $150MM range on the higher end.
He'll be another year older and would have a QO hanging over him, so there's a little reduction in value there.

With Duda on the shelf, do you think the Mets would entertain dealing one of their aces for someone like goldschmidt?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
That's just not realistic, particularly in the middle of the season.
felix
3:09
if the Rockies are out of contention, do you think they trade Reynolds, Motte, Qualls, Logan & McGee?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
I can't guess at what they'll do. In the past they've held onto guys like that. And none look like great chips - McGee's K rate is way down, though he'd still draw interest of course.

3:10
Yankees aren't even close to being sellers. They'll have to fall way back, so people can speculate all they want on RPs but it's way too soon for them to contemplate that.
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
I agree. For me, it's more a question whether they'd pursue a Miller-for-starter type of scenario.

3:11
What is the super two date?
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
While I'm entertaining questions from this particular chatter ... there is no single date. It's impossible to know at this point, because future service changes will impact it. But there will be estimates/projections made. I'm not sure I've seen one this year.

Did the braves ever DFA Brian Mateuz?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
Yup, same day of the trade. I updated the post.
Jake Arrieta
3:13
That's three "okay" starts in a row now. Am I regressing?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
He was outperforming the peripherals and was always likely to regress a bit. Ridiculous run. He's still great, regardless.
Adam
3:14
Do you think the biggest piece to be had this summer is Lucroy?
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
I think he's the guy who combines the most value and trade likelihood. We'll see if he's the best player/contract that ends up being moved, though.

@Royals
.@Mooose_8 has been placed on the 15-day D.L. with a right ACL tear; @Brett_Eibner has been recalled from @OMAStormChasers #Royals
3:16
That's huge. Moose almost certainly done for the year, I'd think.
Harry
3:16
Could the Mets pull the trigger and get Edwin from the Jays?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
Doubt he's available right now.
Brian
3:16
If the jays are out of the race by the deadline, can a trade of EE or Bautista net any top prospects? Or just a minor haul of mid-tier prospects
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
But if he is made available, both would draw a haul. Unless EE just continues to scuffle. I think they'd be pretty hotly pursued - reasonably priced rentals.

Hey Todd, a bunch of fantasy guys read this chat - give us your top pick-up for the rest of the year
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
Mark Reynolds! He seems criminally under-owned. Guy plays at Coors and has first base locked up.
End of fantasy talk. I'm not very good at it.

The podcast will go but live chat will stay right? We love you Todd !
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
Todd will still chat. As will Adams.

Thoughts on the Mets potentially having Conforto at First and Lagares in Center?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
No indication they are interested in doing that. Maybe they'll let him work out there some on the quiet, but it's probably not their first choice unless things get drastic on the Duda front. I think they should be able to find an adequate fill-in.

What do the White Sox need to make the playoffs? They've almost completely stopped winning after such a strong start.
Jeffrey Todd
3:20
That was inevitable, to some extent. They aren't a great team. Can still add a couple of pieces, of course, and the strong start gives them a bit of wiggle room to last out a rough stretch of play.
Plus, dang, Royals.
Harry

Is Michael Saunders worthy of QO at this point?
