So ... what's on your mind today? (Baseball-related thoughts only, please.)

Do you think braves trade vizcaino???
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
I think that's reasonably likely, especially if the market shapes up as lacking high-powered relief arms. That's obviously still unclear, but could be the case.
2:39
A's willingness to deal would be a pretty big factor in the supply/demand on Viz. And how teams view Phils' guys, who should be for sale.

2:40
Teams that have a surpolus of OF talent to trade with the Indians?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
I'm looking at them as being more interested in guys who aren't earning top of the market salary. Not saying it isn't possible, but I guess I wouldn't put CLE too heavily on the Jay Bruce/Ryan Braun market. Maybe a Reddick type would be a better fit and a bit more affordable.
Jared
2:42
What do you see the Cubs doing at the trade deadline??
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
Not ready to answer this ... I think that's going to be something that requires a full post sometime soon.

2:42
What pitchers are on the minds of the Red Sox? Relievers or starters
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
Both, but I think focus has to be on a starter. If you think you're going to the postseason, and you have one of the game's highest payrolls, have to think about getting top of the rotation arms lined up.

2:44
What is the latest on the lucroy/braun trade front? Any chance we will see something before the all-star break? If yes, what teams will be contenders for these two players?
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
That early timing would be surprising for those guys, who I see as being at or near the top of the market this summer. MIL will want to have a good sense of what the market will bear, not just take the first appealing offer that comes through, and it's not clear whether that'll happen before late July.
Of course, if someone dangles a top-notch piece, all bets are off.

2:46
When do you think Alex Bregman and James Taillion will get the call?
Jeffrey Todd
2:46
I'm feeling that Taillon will come first, in large part b/c Astros have other options and Bregman is still getting acquainted with the pros and a new position.
Rick
2:47
Do you have a sense if this year's deadline will be more active than in recent past?
Jeffrey Todd
2:47
That's an impossible question! Last year's seemed ready to match the prior, but ended up not being nearly as interesting. Had Preller been more willing to deal, it could've been wild. So ... we'll see!

2:48
What can the Nats do about that outfield? Will Revere, Taylor and Werth turn it around?
Jeffrey Todd
2:49
Yes and no. I think both Revere and Taylor are due for improvement, but at least at this stage both are limited players. Similarly, expecting a 140 OPS+ from Werth is probably unrealistic, but I think he can still be a sturdy bat. I'm expecting a reasonable bump up, but maybe not enough that the team won't look into alternatives this summer.

Will the Yankees deal of error of their backed end bullpen arms? If yes. Which?
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
I've started to lean towards Miller being more likely, b/c I think he has more trade value with the added control and lack of PR issues. Then they can QO Chapman and look to re-sign him.
But will they deal either? Seems reasonably plausible but failry low likelihood.
Jose Reyes
2:51
Do I play a MLB game this year? How much salary has to get absorbed for a team to want me?
Jeffrey Todd
2:51
I'll guess that he will play, but that nobody will take on more than a couple million bucks for that right. Haven't heard anything about how he's looked, but he doesn't have Chapman-level current talent to get teams to look past an even worse PR situation.
Alan
2:52
How much money could the White Sox expect to get the Padres to pay of any Shields deal.
Jeffrey Todd
2:52
Can't really answer this b/c it's really just dependent upon how each club views it -- prefer to get/part with cash or prospects?
2:53
I'd expect CHW would be a bit more willing to take most of the salary than sell off the top of a fairly thin farm.
John
2:54
Not even a sox fan, but I feel like there should be public praise for Cherrington. Holding that core of Betts, Bradley, and Bogaerts has looked pretty shrewd
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
As with evaluating presidents, there's often a long tail to decisions that impact our assessments.
Jimmy
2:54
Give me two names the Red Sox will trade for at the trade deadline
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
Y'all ready for this?
2:55
Ellis Burks and Craig Biggio
Seriously, though ... ??? I have no clue, ha.
Jake
2:55
Do you think the comments expressed by the Padres chairman are refreshing or serve more as detrimental and distracting?
Jeffrey Todd
2:56
I still haven't listened to the full audio, so I will reserve judgment a bit, but from what I read ... seemed a bit over the top. Thought Shields response -- not embarrassed even if he knows he didn't perform in one start -- was perfect. And the fact that he included JS in the line of fire kind of reduced the impact of the other words. Shields is nothing if not a gamer.
2:57
In fact, while on that topic ... don't forget the huge impact on his trade value of his incredible durability. He's a horse, and that helps a lot.

2:57
Should Aaron Hill be on the Mets radar for an immediate trade target?
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
I'd rather see them add a glove-first player or wait and get someone who can field and hit.
Hill is fine and sturdy in both areas, but he doesn't really seem all that different from what they have.
Dan

Are the White Sox as good as they were in April, as bad as they were near the end of May, or somewhere in between?
