In the course of driving all over central Virginia looking for a place to live, I managed to forget to fire this up on time. Sorry!
5:11
I'll let everyone saunter in, then we'll get rolling.
Bruh
5:12
Trade Jose Bautista for a prospect or 2 then go for cargo?
Jeffrey Todd
5:12
Actually let's just get started right away with a bang! Now that's a blockbuster idea, but unfortunately, wildly unrealistic.
Tony
5:12
Do you see the Mets moving one of their starting pitchers before the deadline?
Jeffrey Todd
5:12
I really don't. Innings/health are a big concern. Would be a major risk to weaken the team's core strength (both for this season and the future).
Keith
5:13
If the Mariners continue to tank, who on their roster should they consider trading for prospects? Cruz? Cano? Perhaps even felix?
Jeffrey Todd
5:13
Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. There's ebb and flow to every season, and I think Seattle is in good enough shape to stick around .500 come deadline time. Most teams aren't selling out of that kind of position.
5:14
Anyway, if it comes to it, Felix ... yikes. Early struggles and increasingly worrying DL stint.

Thanks for the chat Jeff. Aybar has picked it up as of late (his usual summer progression), does he gain any trade value?
Jeffrey Todd
5:15
And thanks for reminding me of it! He certainly could. Veteran guy with a long track record, so if he's playing well come late July other clubs will buy into it. But at his salary, and given his putrid start, it's hard to imagine any kind of exciting return. Plus, SS market isn't looking super strong on the demand side.
Josh
5:15
Drew Pomeranz to the Pirates?
Jeffrey Todd
5:16
I had expected the first Buccos question to be about whether/when they'd sell, ha. Don't see that particularly - they tend to buy low on pitchers, not buy high. And there are still reinforcements on hand internally.

How r the Yankees favorite to sign a top pitching prospect from the dr if they are restricted by spending pools?
Jeffrey Todd
5:17
Well, I haven't read Badler's piece closely, but I'm sure he explains it. For one thing, you can often find value even at $300K -- scouting isn't exact science, esp. for 16 year olds from Latin America. Beyond that, there are lots of ways teams get creative in package deals, as the excellent Mr. Badler has explained.

Minnesota, I believe.
He does Tuesday chats, I do Thursday. You're stuck with me, sorry.
Les Gomez
5:17
If the Mets sign Reyes, does that take them out on Gourriel?
Jeffrey Todd
5:18
Ehhhhh ... maybe it'd be more of an indication they don't want to pursue Gurriel than anything? It is a bit hard to imagine them going after both, I suppose.

lucroy for yoan moncada who says no?
Jeffrey Todd
5:19
Dang, that seems pretty steep, but Lucroy is kind of Posey-lite and has another year of control. I'll guess he draws something more like a Carlos Gomez return (multiple high quality prospects) than a true top-ten type.

Best guess on who the Pirates might trade?
Jeffrey Todd
5:20
Short-term veterans, really. If they totally fell off, I guess Melancon would be their biggest piece.

Is there any chance the Orioles trade for Sonny Gray?
Jeffrey Todd
5:20
Not really.
Tyler

Latest on Red Sox ?
Jeffrey Todd
5:21
Just gimme like an hour and a half to type up a quick overview ...
Rooster
5:21
Would it be wiser for the Yankees to be buyers or sellers at the deadline?
Jeffrey Todd
5:21
Wait until last minute. Assess situation and specific offers in either direction.
Les Gomez
5:21
Matz, Wheeler, Flores, and Lagares for Trout
Jeffrey Todd
5:21
NO
Enough of these rumors
5:21
Will the Canadiens trade PK Subban?
Jeffrey Todd
5:22
Dude you must have mistaken me for a ProHockeyRumors.com writer. (Yes that is now a real thing!)
Dombrowski
5:22
Red Sox fans are begging me not to trade any of the big four prospects for pitching. They're right, aren't they?
Jeffrey Todd
5:23
Probably. If it's a controllable ace, then that's different. But I don't know that I'd part with that kind of upside for a half-year rental or even a Teheran type.
Tank
5:24
Will the Cubs cave in and trade Schwarber for Miller especially since he has no position?
Jeffrey Todd
5:24
This seems to assume the teams are even discussing such a thing, which I don't know that we have any reason to believe.
Tommy
5:24
Where does Bruce end up and when?
Jeffrey Todd
5:25
Dunno but I'd be looking to cash him in as soon as possible. Important to remember, though, that buying teams have reason to wait, too. They want to know what their real needs are, see how internal options develop, and see what comes available.
