MLBTR Live Chat with Steve Adams -- 1/10/17
powered byJotCast
Steve Adams
4:05
The Hiroshima Carp?
Sam Fuld
4:05
Do I get a major league contract?
Steve Adams
4:06
Nah, minor league deal
Jack
4:06
How long do the Live Chats usually last for Steve? Thanks
Steve Adams
4:06
An hour-ish with me, though sometimes (like today), I'll just chat longer if it's a bit of a slow news day
Jason's Wednesday chats seem to go the longest of any of us. He did like a 2-hour, 15-minute chat last week. A true American hero.

Trevor Cahill was pretty effective out of Cubs pen the last year and a half, but nobody mentions him as a target. Is Cahill looking for an opportunity to start?
Steve Adams
4:07
I think both Cahill and Travis Wood hoped to find starting opportunities this winter, which might slow down their markets a bit.
Randy
4:08
Whats it going to take for Braves to get Archer?
Steve Adams
4:08
More than you'd want to give up. Rays would probably lead by asking for Swanson
What
4:08
What would a Butler deal look like and is he worth taking a chance on?
Steve Adams
4:09
He's still in the last year of his three-year contract with the A's even though he got released, so all any team needs to do is pay him the league minimum.
General Fanager
4:09
Is WAR a flawed stat?
Steve Adams
4:09
Every stat has flaws.
Tommy Lasordid

Romo to Dodgers would be great, what with the rivalry and all, and he being a SoCal guy. Think he would take a $7 mil. one-year deal?
Steve Adams
4:10
He's probably still holding out for two, but if he's on the board in February that one-year offer might start looking a lot better.

Your current favorites for the AL/NL Pennant are...
Steve Adams
4:10
Nothing bold about this, but Cubs and Red Sox
Jeremy
4:11
Is there any legit 3rd base options for the Braves outside what they already have?
Steve Adams
4:12
If Valbuena ends up taking a one-year deal, I'd love to see Atlanta jump on that. Could technically trade for Frazier, but I doubt they'd want to meet the Sox' asking price. Plouffe could work there, though he's at least somewhat redundant with Garcia (though I think Plouffe is better).
Joe Kerr
4:12
What's your favorite out of town ballpark to visit?
Steve Adams
4:13
Only been once, but I'd love to go back to AT&T
Prich
4:13
Who do you think 'blinks' in the Dozier talks: Dodgers or Twins?
Steve Adams
4:13
The Twins aren't trading Dozier for De Leon and junk or just for De Leon straight up. Dodgers will either up their offer or the Twins will hold onto him. Right now, the latter looks considerably more likely
BayRays
4:13
Do you see a team meeting the Rays asking price for Archer this off-season?
Steve Adams
4:13
Nope.
Adam Stevens
4:15
Surprised that the Yankees haven't unloaded Gardner? Is there a market for him?
Steve Adams
4:15
Mildly, but the teams that really needed a CF (Cardinals, Nats) went another direction. Blue Jays and Orioles still make sense for him on paper, but there's the whole intra-division angle to consider there.
Mike
4:16
Say the Dodgers trade for Braun and Dozier, would that make them the favorites? That would give them 20-30 homerun power at every position on the field.
Steve Adams
4:18
That's a whole lot to assume, but even then I'd still be worried about their pitching. Will Hill/Maeda hold up? How much of a workload increase can Urias handle? Can any of Kazmir, McCarthy or Ryu provide average or better innings?

Is there a domino affect with the miller trade last offseason, and aces suddenly being asked for way too much talent? Why are they so highly priced, like the Sale Trade.
Steve Adams
4:18
The cost of acquisition to acquire a front-line starter has always been exorbitant. They're the hardest commodites in the game to develop.
Steve Adams is my co-pilot
4:19
Sean Doolittle for Mitch Haniger who says no
Steve Adams
4:19
Dipoto seems to love Haniger. I think he's going to get regular playing time from the get-go, and Doolittle's shoulder is too concerning. Doubt the M's do it.
El-Mo
4:19
Does a Quintana trade move White Sox farm system to #1?
Steve Adams
4:20
It'd be in the mix, for sure. Especially if they traded him to the Yankees, who might have the best overall farm right now, as it'd weaken them. (That's not happening, just saying)
Ryan
4:20
Do you think the Rangers should trade Darvish rather than letting him leave next year as a free agent?
Steve Adams
4:21
If they're completely out of it come July, sure, but they're built to win right now.
Spuds
4:21
Jays done?
Steve Adams
4:22
No, they'll add at least one outfielder and at least one reliever. I get the impatience and all, but look at how much is left on the free-agent market. Plus there's still more than a month before Spring Training even begins.
