I don't think any team would ever look at a departing player and think they need to replace a specific stat. They'll evaluate how much overall value they feel he brought to the club (via a proprietary version of WAR or some all-encompassing metric) and look to replace that value as best they can.

There are tons of ways to add value, and it doesn't need to be pigeonholed into one stat or trait like that. Getting better is getting better.

Could Jose Abreu be a trade candidate this offseason? What could his return look like for the White Sox?

I don't see why so many White Sox fans are pushing a rebuild, honestly. They have Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Abreu, Eaton and Anderson all for at least three more years.

There's plenty of time for the rebuild next winter or even the following winter if they want, but with that type of core in place, they'd be crazy not to go for it. Sure it's frustrating to see them come up short after their last two big pushes (way short), but it's not like they're in a powerhouse division. The Twins are terrible at the moment, the Royals and Tigers are slashing payroll. Why not keep at it?

Why give him away? He hit reall well for 150 PAs or so before tanking and ultimately undergoing surgery to fix his wrist, and he's dirt cheap. $4MM per year is nothing to them, and the upside of a 20-30 homer bat there, even one with tons of strikeouts, is appealing.

Top 50 list is targeting for next week. FA Prediction Contest should come out around the same time but might be a few days behind that. Either way, both should be up in the next couple of weeks.
