McCutchen for Alex Reyes and Luke Weaver?
Steve Adams
3:56
Cardinals wouldn't give up both for a potentially declining Cutch, and can you really see Pittsburgh trading McCutchen to St. Louis of all places?
Kenny
3:57
Salvador Perez to Braves to replenish Royals depleted Farm system and give them a high upaide young starter?
Steve Adams
3:57
Royals aren't trading Perez
Kyle
3:57
Yanks gonna sign EE Chapman and rich Hill and call it an offseason?
Steve Adams
3:58
I can see them going after Chapman and Hill since they wouldn't necessarily be blocking anyone. But they just got out from under the A-Rod and Tex deals, and they have Bird and Tyler Austin as 1B/DH options. I don't think they'll play at the top of the market in that realm.

Max pitcher count per game, Pitch timer, smaller strike zone. Pick 1 of 3
Steve Adams
4:00
Pitch clock. I dislike the focus on speeding up the game, but I'd rather something like that than something that fundamentally changes how a manager has to strategize or how a pitcher has to approach a hitter.

Who wins NL Cy Young?
Steve Adams
4:01
I expect Kyle Hendricks to get that nod.
Mike Trout
4:01
I won't get the MVP. My team won't be in the playoffs for at least another 3 years. Am I being wasted on the Angels?
Steve Adams
4:04
You should get the MVP, though i agree that it's probably not happening. It's a crime that Trout's going to come away with one MVP over the first five seasons of his career when he's been the best player in baseball and it's not even close over that time. Depriving him of an individual honor because he has crappy teammates is senseless.

Tangent aside, I do think there's an argument that the Angels are wasting his best years. I don't get why Moreno is so reluctant to exceed the luxury tax. You have the best asset in baseball on a reasonable contract -- so hard not to defend not spending to surround him with talent. I think the Halos should at least be open to trade talks -- why not let someone blow you away? -- but it won't happen.

Do the Mets pick up Jay Bruce's option this winter?
Steve Adams
4:05
Yeah. I wouldn't, but then again I wouldn't have traded Herrera for him in the first place.
James Franco
4:05
Does Cleveland stand a chance in the ALDS with 2 of their top 3 starters out? (And with Kluber a maybe)
Steve Adams
4:05
Sure. Anything can happen in a short series, and Kluber is penciled into game 1 right now.
Dookie Howser, MD
4:05
Never doubt Kluber's groin
Steve Adams
4:05
You heard it here!

What do you see the tigers doing this winter? Resign Cam Maybin? Who could they trade to lower payroll?
Steve Adams
4:07
They don't need to re-sign him. He has a $9MM option that'll probably be picked up.

I'd just dump Pelfrey on anyone that's willing to take him. That contract was baffling from the get-go. Send him and a marginal prospect to the Phillies or someone who can take on the crappy contract. I'm still in disbelief that he got 2/16. Scott Boras is a wizard.

Conforto and Lugo for Cargo?
Steve Adams
4:07
Way too much to give up for a year of CarGo.
Doug Fister
4:08
Can I command 10 million a year over 3 years with the limited SP free agent pool?
Steve Adams
4:08
He didn't get $10MM on a one-year deal last winter, and he was worse in 2016. Terrible market or not, there's not a lot to love about Fister at this point. He's not getting close to that kind of scratch. I wouldn't even sign him for 1/10.

With teams looking for positional versatility and roster flexibility will we ever see another Edgar or Papi?
Steve Adams
4:10
Yeah I'd imagine so. Not every club is committed to using its DH spot in a rotational capacity, and if someone can hit at that level but can't play defense, teams will still find a way to get him at-bats. It's unlikely that we see anyone sustain their offensive output as long as Ortiz, but that's got nothing to do with roster usage and everything to do with what a unique talent he is.

Free agent this winter that you value much higher than Tim/Jeff? Any that you're a lot more bearish on?
Steve Adams
4:14
I'm bigger on Saunders and Desmond than Tim is, I think. Probably more so on Trumbo, too, though that's more because I think he'll get paid and not because I think he deserves it.

Tim's higher on Rich Hill than just about anyone, myself included.

I know Jeff recoiled when I told him I think Hellickson will land Ervin Santna-ish money as well. But I'm always pretty aggressive with free agent estimations.

We haven't talked enough about the market as a group just yet, but those conversations will be happening over the next week or so, and we'll begin publishing some thoughts on those later this month.
I'm out for this week. Thanks for chatting! I'll be back on Tuesday next week, with Jeff resuming his Thursday chat. Take care and enjoy playoff baseball! I know I will.
