Any chance the Jays take a shot at Cespedes after letting EE walk?
Steve Adams
4:19
If they were going to spend at that level on a five-year deal for a right-handed bat, I'd think they'd just take the guy they already know.
Riley
4:19
17 million for Neil Walker? Is he underrated or is this a bad contract for the Mets?
Steve Adams
4:19
$17MM for Walker on a one-year deal is fine. He's a good player, and $17MM isn't as much as a lot of fans make it out to be -- especially not to a team with a payroll north of $140MM.
Michael
4:19
Free agent who will get a larger contract than he deserves?
Steve Adams
4:20
90% of them? Free agency is an auction, and the highest bidder wins on each free agent... that, by nature, makes almost all free agent deals an overpay.
4:21
But if you want one name -- I can't reconcile someone paying Mark Trumbo $12-16MM on a three- or more likely four-year deal.
Wieters, too.

4:21
Are the Phillies kicking themselves for having to spend $17m+ for Hellickson?
Steve Adams
4:22
It'd have been crazy not to offer it. If Hellickson can repeat the form he's had since the 2015 All-Star break -- 3.74 ERA with 7.3 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 over his past 240 1/3 innings -- he's worth every penny.
If not, it's a one-year deal. Shrug.

Any concerns about the Orioles pitching development/coaching?
Steve Adams
4:24
I don't know how you couldn't be concerned, looking at the high number of well-regarded arms that have simply bombed there. Arrieta, Matusz, injuries to Bundy and Harvey, Hobgood... so many pitchers with promise there have failed to reach it. Even Britton was supposed to be a quality MLB starter and only thrived when they put him in relief.
Allen
4:24
Cespedes a good fit for SF?
Steve Adams
4:24
Yep -- I like that match quite a bit.

4:24
Is the tigers payroll slash a sign of selling the team?
Steve Adams
4:25
Not that I'm aware of -- at a certain point they can't keep spending more than they're pulling in. And more aggressive spending only further draws out the ugly financial mess in which they currently find themselves.

Who is your pick for bounce back player on the FA market?
Steve Adams
4:25
Charlie Morton. Does Jon Jay count?
Mickey Dee
4:26
Hey Steve, Yankees trade Gardner or McCann or both?
Steve Adams
4:26
I think they'll move McCann, yeah. Gardner more up in the air... if someone wants to offer them a comparably priced MLB starter, for instance (e.g. Gio Gonzalez, Jaime Garcia), there could be some logic there.
Keith Law
4:27
My predictions are better than yours!!
Steve Adams
4:27
Keith is awesome.
Billy Beane
4:27
Gray + Vogt for Inciarte, Swanson, Newcomb - Who says no?
Steve Adams
4:27
Braves aren't giving up Dansby and Ender ther.
there.
AJ
4:27
Is Justin Turner a fit in Boston?
Steve Adams
4:28
They already have one $85MM+ third baseman and a couple of younger pre-arb candidates as well in Shaw and (eventually) Moncada. Doesn't seem necessary.
Or fiscally wise.
Ryan
4:28
Who does Preller sign this offseason?
Steve Adams
4:29
A bunch of bargain starters -- Clayton RIchard/Charlie Morton/Doug Fister types. Maybe a Korean starter like Kwang Hyun Kim, who he tried to acquire two winters ago via the posting system. Some kind of veteran shorttop on a one-year deal does work, so long as they're not trading solid minor league talent to get him. (Hence my pushback against the Cozart idea)
4:30
Ok, I'm going to publish the weirdest comment I've ever gotten in a chat and call it for the week.
I'll be back next Tuesday. Jason chats tomorrow night at 6:30 CT. Jeff on Thursday at 2 CT.
And apparently I'm kicking it to Dwayne Johnson to close out. You guys are weird. It's awesome.
The Rock
4:30
The Rock says he's the sexiest man alive, but the rock asks who came in 2nd......IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO CAME IN 2ND.

Because the Rock is and forever will be People's champion. And getting the title of People's sexiest man alive and being the people's champion go hand and hand.

So you may ask what's next for the Rock. Well the jabroni beating, pie eating, eye brow raising, trail blazing, man of determination and drive and the sexiest man alive will drive his Ford F350 down to San Antonio for the Royal Rumble, and he's going to personally deliver 29 copies of People's sexiest man alive issue to each one of the Royal Rumble competitors and he's going to make sure each one is in pristine condition and he's going to shine them up real nice.......THEN TAKE THEM SOMABITCHES STICK THEM SIDEWAYS STRAIGHT UP ALLLLLLLLLLLLL THEIR RUDY POO CANDYASSES.......

IF YA SMEEEEEEEELALALALALALAOOOOOOOO

WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKING?
Steve Adams
4:31
Cannot say I was expecting a Rock promo in my chat. But there it is.
Have a good week folks!
