Steve Adams

No, you were a waiver claim not a Rule 5 pick.
Super joe
3:19
Jake Peavy getting signed
Steve Adams
3:20
Sure -- someone will throw a few million bucks and a roster spot at him. Hey! Another San Diego possibility.
I can see the Marlins trying to catch lightning in a bottle on guys like that, too.
3:21
Also, re: Cooney -- he has a minor league option left, so Cleveland can send him down to open next season if they want.
Ryan
3:21
What kind of player can Ozuna be? Would he fit the defensive upgrade in center the Cards are looking for?
Steve Adams
3:21
The Marlins are moving him out of center and to left field, so no. He's a 25ish HR guy with a middling OBP that can hit for a decent enough average and probably play a solid left field. A useful regular but not a star.

3:22
Will Joe Mauer play another playoff game in his career?
Steve Adams
3:22
Probably depends on if he plans on playing beyond 2018 when his contract is up.
Justin
3:22
Why don't the angels take a flier on someone they know to fill 2B hole? Erick Aybar? He can hit left handed which will help a heavily rand handed lineup and give them a capable back up short stop if Simmons sees extend time on the DL
Steve Adams
3:23
If they feel he can be a plus defender there, maybe they would. But he was a bad shortstop last year, and even if a team moves him to second, it might only make him average as opposed to a strong defender
Andrew McCutchen
3:24
Should I start packing my bags outta Pittsburgh?
Steve Adams
3:24
I wouldn't bank on it unless someone's going to pay a price more commensurate with his ceiling than his 2016 performance. It's really hard for the Bucs to sell low on the face of their franchise.

Will the Angels sign Justin Turner ... if so then what do you do with Yunel Escobar?
Steve Adams
3:25
I don't think they'll spend at that level for anyone this winter.
Perry from Michigan
3:25
Jason Castro a Twin soon?
Steve Adams
3:25
That's my pick for his landing spot
Rick Hahn
3:25
What should I do?
Steve Adams
3:26
I've said on numerous occasions before -- the fire sale can wait. You have Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Eaton, Anderson and Abreu all controlled for at least three more years plus a bunch of solid complementary players like Robertson, Jones, Frazier, Melky
The true trade chips you have will be there in July and again next winter.
Spencer
3:26
Yelich is staying put right?
Steve Adams
3:27
I can't see any team offering enough to persuade Miami to part with that contract.
Austin
3:27
Out of Verlander, Cabrera, Kinsler, JD Martinez, V. Martinez, Upton, and Zimmermann who will the Tigers trade?
Steve Adams
3:28
JDM is the only one I'd actually expect them to trade. *Maybe* Kinsler. The others are all have terrible contracts and/or no-trade protection. Wrote about this in Detroit's offseason outlook:
AJ
3:28
If the Rays miss out on Castro who's their backup plan?
Steve Adams
3:30
I don't think there's any real way they go three years at a competitive rate. When have the Rays ever outbid the field for a free agent? James Loney?

If they miss out on him I think they'll trade for someone. I liked Topkin's suggestion of getting the Cubs to eat most of Montero's deal. Derek Norris or one of the Mets' catchers (Plawecki or d'Arnaud) would also make sense to me.
Ryan
3:30
Chances Brian Dozier is a Twin next year? If he is traded where might he end up?
Steve Adams
3:31
Feels like a coinflip to me, which is a weak answer, but that's where I'm at. Dodgers would be far and away the likeliest to deal for him.
Esteban
3:31
What do you expect Eric Thames to slash in the bigs?
Steve Adams
3:31
Big league scouts that I talked to who watched him in KBO weren't exactly enamored. Couple suggested he's more likely to go to Japan since he'll get paid more there.
Chad
3:32
How about Tony Watson to M's for Dan Altavilla?
Steve Adams
3:32
Altavilla had a nice year but I'd think the Pirates would want more.
Austin
3:33
Who might take a chance on former #2 overall pick Dustin Ackley?
Steve Adams
3:34
I think teams are going to focus a lot less on the whole "#2 pick" thing and more heavily on the 86 OPS+ he's totaled since his rookie season and the recent season-ending surgery. The draft stock thing might've carried some weight a few years back, but now? No one's going to care.
3:35
Tony Sanchez went 4th that year and teams haven't exactly been falling over themselves to get him free agency.
Matt
3:35
Do the Yankees sign Chapman?
Steve Adams
3:35
That's my pick at the moment yeah
James C
3:36
If the luxury tax is raised from $189 mil to about $200 mil will it have any real effect on this offseason?
Steve Adams
3:37
It'd make a few teams more willing to spend, depending on their current proximity to the luxury tax barrier. I do think teams generally try to avoid it or only exceed it for one year at a time due to its compounding nature
