MLBTR Live Chat with Steve Adams -- 12/13/16

Raisel Iglesias

Any chance the Reds move me?
Steve Adams
3:50
Sure it's possible, but he's controlled for another 5 years so there's no reason to do so unless they're blown away. I'm really high on Iglesias, personally, so any trade offer for him would have to be pretty impressive, in my mind.
Brendan
3:51
Jose Abreu for Brendan Rodgers and Riley Pint plus 2 throw ins?
Steve Adams
3:51
Can't see the Rox giving up Rodgers+ for Abreu.
JC
3:51
No talk on the Jason Hammel front? Where do you think he ends up?
Steve Adams
3:53
Kind of surprised with the lack of movement on him and Nova, but plenty of teams still need rotation help. Mariners, Angels, Yankees, Rockies, Marlins... they'll land somewhere on multi-year deals.
Cristian Yelich
3:53
Any chance i get traded?
Steve Adams
3:53
Can't come up with a realistic scenario for that.
Troy C
3:53
The Angels are looking to add a LH hitting 4th OF...does Ben
Steve Adams
3:54
Assuming that was supposed to ask about Ben Revere, yeah, he makes good sense there for something like $3-4MM on a one-year deal.
Huh.
Angels trade Jett Bandy to Milwaukee for Martin Maldonado and a yet-unnamed pitching prospect.
3:55
So yeah, I'd add the Angels to the list of teams that make sense for Welington Castillo or any other free-agent catcher.
Orioles
3:55
Melky to Baltimore makes too much sense
Steve Adams
3:55
Better idea than giving Trumbo four years to play right field.
JD Martnez
3:56
Giants done? Or can they muster a package to land me?
Steve Adams
3:56
They'll add someone to play left field, but probably not JDM unless the Tigers lower their ask.
Liam
3:56
Which white sox return surprised you more redsox or nationals?
Steve Adams
3:57
I wasn't stunned by either -- I think they needed to have exceptionally high asking prices to move either of those players/contracts. Sale's return maybe surprised me a little more just because I thought they'd have a more MLB-ready headliner than Moncada, but tough to argue with the value they got in the top three names of that deal.
Brett Gardner
3:58
Anyway I can get traded to KC for Duffy ? Reasonable and fair trade
Steve Adams
3:58
Royals need Duffy more than they need Gardner, even if the straight exchange of contracts and on-paper value there is reasonably close.
Terry
3:58
Since our owner is so cheap, the O's should trade Zack right now. I don't want them to but it makes sense.
Steve Adams
3:59
The Orioles opened the 2016 season with a $147MM payroll and we have them projected at a $152.5MM payroll to open 2017. "Cheap" isn't the word I'd use.
Wade Davis
4:00
What do you think about the Royals trade Wade Davis for Jorge Soler?
Steve Adams
4:01
Jeff Todd and I went back and forth on this -- I don't like the concept of moving four years of Soler for a one-year commodity even if there was no place to use Soler there in 2017. Jeff's argument is that Soler was more of an asset to whom they assigned a value and were clearly going to move for the largest upgrade possible. That's a valid way of looking at the matter, but four years of any MLB asset is a lot to part with for one year of any reliever -- especially one that had some serious red flags in 2016.

How happy was Tim when the Cubs won the WS
Steve Adams
4:02
The more fun question was to ask him how he felt after the Rajai Davis homer, ha. But he was pretty ecstatic. I was happy for him and for my dad and his siblings, as he's from the northern Chicago suburbs and has been waiting 60+ years for that to happen. I was indifferent and just wanted entertaining baseball... both teams delivered.
Terry
4:03
If he isn't cheap, do you think in a couple of years that they will sign Manny?
Steve Adams
4:04
Not signing Manny Machado to a $400MM+ contract doesn't make anyone "cheap." And if you don't think that's where Machado is headed, you're selling him short. If the Orioles called him about an extension right now, they wouldn't get the wheels moving with anything less than Stanton's contract. And even then, his agents would assuredly want to top it by a wide margin.

Am I the only one who gets annoyed when someone says, "Who says no?"
Steve Adams
4:05
I'm numb to it. "Who hangs up" and "who says no" are in the chat queue about 500 times per session, ha.
audel
4:05
If you had to guess who do you see being the Dodgers 2nd basemen next season? Brandon Phillips, Ian Kinsler, Brian Dozier or Chase Utley?
Steve Adams
4:05
I'd call Dozier the most logical of the bunch because he can't block a trade and provides more value than Utley, who would do nothing to fix their woes against LHP from 2016.
Meta Devass
4:05
Is Howie Kendrick severely underrated?
Steve Adams
4:06
I think he once was, but he wasn't that great in 2016, either.
Ben
4:06
Why do the Cardinals keep getting Competitive Balance picks when they are typically a top 5 revenue team.
Steve Adams
4:06
Teams with the 10 smallest market sizes and the 10 lowest revenues are eligible for Comp Balance picks.
Manny
4:06
Why is bruce still a met?
Steve Adams
4:07
Because they exercised the option on a guy who didn't come with much in the way of surplus value and have been shopping him around in a marketplace that is saturated with outfielders who carry similar skill sets and a smaller price tag.
Tim
4:08
Tired of hearing Pirates are small market team, limited funds, etc, etc, etc. When do they do something to improve team from 2016?
