You can be tired of it all you want, but that's the reality. Bob Nutting is never going to decide "oh hell with it, I'll just operate at a loss every year" and shoot the payroll up to $140MM or something.
JJ The Blue Jay
4:09
Did you forsee Bautista AND Encarnacion still being unsigned after the Winter Meetings?
Steve Adams
4:10
I thought EE would've signed, but he's in rough shape now with the Yankees, Astros and Jays all largely out of the picture.
Tommy Lasordid
4:10
Why no talk of Blanton returning to LA? Seems like a continued good fit.
Steve Adams
4:10
Could very well happen. They've clearly had bigger items on their agenda though.
Audel Del Toro
4:11
Kershaw, Hill, Maeda, Urias & Ryu/McCarthy/Kazmir is a solid rotation during the season but is it strong enough to win in the playoffs esp against the Cubs?
Steve Adams
4:12
The Royals won a World Series with a questionable Johnny Cueto, Yordano Ventura, Edinson Volquez and Chris Young starting games. They had Jeremy Guthrie in their rotation for more than half of that season. There are lots of ways to win, and the playoffs are a crapshoot.
Kyle
4:12
I just don't buy that they really expect Desmond to play the lions share of 1B
Steve Adams
4:14
Yeah it seems like a convenient thing to be able to say so as not to announce to the world, "Hey we'd really like to trade Charlie Blackmon, Carlos Gonzalez or Gerardo Parra!"

Man, just lumping Parra in with those two seems wrong. He had such a terrible year in 2016. That signing never made sense and couldn't look worse now.
Edwin Encarnacion
4:14
Am I a passable enough defensive 1st baseman to play in the NL for a few seasons?
Steve Adams
4:15
Some teams are probably fine with EE at 1B for a season or two. But he's looking 4-5 years, which is tough for an NL team to get on board with.
The Duke
4:16
Would the O's be better to use Mancini at DH and spend the millions on someone other than Trumbo?
Steve Adams
4:16
Spending $50MM+ on Mark Trumbo is the last thing I'd recommend for any team. Don't get me wrong, some club may very well do it, but I can't comprehend why.

4:17
Would EE take a huge 1 year deal in order to enter FA next year without comp. attached? Cardinals 1 yr 30 million?
Steve Adams
4:17
If you're Edwin, why not ask for three years with the opt-out a la Cespedes last winter? Taking a straight one-year guarantee limits him, and I'm not sure the market is so dry that he needs to consider that route just yet.

Grant Brisbee wrote something to the tune of; "playing desmond at 1b makes about as much sense as buying a playstation 4 to store one very thin slice of bread". think that's a solid point... but that's not a question. so here's one; is grant the funniest beat writer in american sports?
Steve Adams
4:18
Grant is terrific, and he was a blast when I met him at the 2014 Winter Meetings. Unfortunate that I didn't run into him this year.
Josh
4:18
Whats up with the Bandy trade? Not sure what to think...
Steve Adams
4:19
I think Angels fans liked Jett Bandy a lot more than everyone else. I was met with quite a bit of ire when previously suggesting that they could look for catching help.
Brad
4:19
Royals have too many outfielders on the roster. Who is most likely to be traded?
Steve Adams
4:20
Dyson. Both him and Cain only have one year left, but the Royals will be asking more for Cain than for Dyson, and it's easier to imagine a team parting with the requisite talent for Dyson than for Cain.

Comment: I appreciate you using "small revenue" rather than small market. Markets are debatable and they are what they are. However, teams' budgets are dictated by revenue rather than market. The reality is that while a team like San Diego may not be a small market, they are a small to medium revenue.
Steve Adams
4:21
It's an important distinction. Miami isn't a small market, for instance, but the Marlins are a low-revenue team.

Any chance the Cubbies bring back Travis Wood? Long time Cub who I thought, did really well in the role he played. Long man, late-inning, not to mention pinch hitter extraordinaire. I would love to see him back, especially with our lack of southpaws.
Steve Adams
4:22
Nah. He wants to start, and I'd imagine he'll find teams willing to pay him handsomely to do just that.
Weird thought
4:23
Do you think the Reds would ever entertain the thought of trading for Bruce? He loved it there and he's not really that old. and they don't have a RF. Winker..maybe...but he's lost pop, which is fine but he may be more suited for LF anyway.
Steve Adams
4:24
Nope. They have too many younger options to play there. No sense in bringing back a $13MM Bruce to take playing time away from a controllable option.

4:24
Are you not answering Met questions?
Steve Adams
4:25
I'm not. I hate the cursed wretched Mets and am deliberately ignoring them all.

Or there are 2000+ readers in here that have combined to ask a thousand+ questions. I've answered some about the Mets. I also haven't been asked that many good ones about the Mets. Thus ends this question on the Mets.

Gun to your head: Where does EE sign?
Steve Adams
4:25
TAKE THE GUN AWAY OH GOD I WANT TO LIVE
Rangers.
